What a great sampling of German wieners. More advertising would be helpful. It took a while searching online to figure out if Moerlein still had food. Maybe piggy back on their website that food is available. Great pairings with the beer.

Had no idea about this option inside the Moerline Tap Room until last week. Hit it up last Friday after work with two girlfriends. We all ordered turkey reubens and decided to split a pretzel as well. Boy oh boy… It was a lot of food. And we ate it ALLLLL. The sandwiches were great and had an extremely generous amount of thickly sliced turkey on them. The pretzels were from Servatii’s, so we knew what we were getting there(deliciousness). All of the food went great with our beers. The only downside is that it is kind of pricey for what it is, especially when compared to other similar options. *cough* Wunderbar *cough* Still a great option on this side of the river. If you get there early enough, you can snag a spot in the tap room’s lot.

Holy Canoli! I had no idea this place existed! Wienerwurst Mike Frankfurtary is located inside the newly re-branded Malt House otherwise known as the Christian Moerlein Tap Room(NOT the Lager House) in Over-the-Rhine. A welcome addition bringing fresh local ingredients and more importantly FOOD to this local watering hole. I met the charming owner and he informed me of all of the local love that goes into this humble biz. When I originally found out about this place I pictured a limited menu with just a few hot dogs, boy was I wrong! Wienerwurst Mike has a full menu front and back ranging from local meats and cheeses for charcuterie boards, to over-the-top hot dogs and even loaded sammies! Even though the corned beef goetta sandwich reeked of deliciousness, we opted for a currywurst, and a pretzel with the German mustard sampler. The currywurst was a hot mett with a home made curry sauce over the top. I am a HUGE fan of hot metts and this one totally satisfied my hankering. The curry sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste, but definitely an interesting balance to the spiciness of the dog. They get their pretzels from Servatii(for now) and it was warm and delicious. The mustard sampler was awesome. Including beer cheese, sweet mustard, spicy dijon mustard, and some other German dipping sauces. I could totally see people hammering these after a night of drinking. The owner was extremely friendly and his use of local ingredients made me fall in love all over again. I can’t wait to come back and try that sandwich and Greg Hardman’s favorite — the Chicago Dog. Residents of OTR get your booty to Wienerwurst Mike Frankfurtary and support this awesome local biz!

Wienerwurst Mike Frankfurtary recently opened in the Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. Malt House tap room. The addition of food to this establishment will most certainly help and nothing goes better with beer than sausages. They converted the end of the bar to a food/deli stand. You can order sausages with toppings, sandwiches like a Reuben, charcuterie boards, as well as some side dishes. I recently stopped in to grab a beer and try out the Frankfurtary. I had a bratwurst with sauerkraut, mustard, and horseradish sauce and my wife had a mettwurst with sauerkraut and mustard. They both came with chips and pickles. I liked my bratwurst although it was just a standard bratwurst with nothing too special about it, but sometimes that’s all that is needed with a good beer. My wife was not too impressed with her mettwurst because she found the casing on the sausage to be tough making it a little hard to eat and she also thought that overall it was a little dry and needed some sauce or something to make it easier to eat. I will say that it came with a large white bun that could have that effect but it needed a large bun to hold that sausage. They had some very impressive looking pretzels that looked like the best I had ever seen. I will definitely try one the next time I come. They also had a sandwich which I really want to try that was described as a pretzel stuffed with sausage and other stuff(or something like that). This food stand was opened by the person behind Skirtz and Johnston Bakery and Café at Findlay Market. I definitely want to go back to try the pretzel, the Reuben sandwich, and the stuffed pretzel sandwich. When I do I will update the review. But so far, it is a welcome addition to the Moerlein Malt House and I am looking forward to trying more of their food.
