Circleville has probably an ice cream show for every 500 citizens, Shopes I think is overall the best. And this is coming from a person who worked at their main competitor for three years. Yummy ice creams and food, but still crazy reasonable prices. Especially their weekly specials– you can’t beat them. They’ve got all they slushie and soft serve treats you’ll need– the classic shake is my favorite, but they are all good. Regular food is decent too– I’m not really a hot dog person, but I love their coneys. One aspect of Shopes that is nice is that they also have indoor seating. Not a lot, but plenty enough for the flux of customers. The outside is nice too, plus they have a drive through. Shopes is a really nice place for a good cheap meal or treat. As long as you don’t mind being across the street from a cemetery and next door to a tombstone store.

On our way to the pumpkin festival we stopped here. Had we known how food crazy the festival would be, this would have not been an option but I am very glad we did. The owner is a great guy and loves what he does. They have a great selection of ice cream, we went with moosetracks, buckeye and my son got superman. All fresh, yummy, creamy goodness! He raved about his full menu and great onion rings, chili etc. so we might have to go back sometime, since he seemed to really know what he was taking about. Great old school feel to it, fun and different, we had a nice time at Shopes.

It’s just a little hole in the wall that’s off the beaten path, with seating for about 15, but Shopes is everything you could want in a little ice cream parlor. In a town bloated with ice cream shops(I can think of 5 off the top of my head) Shopes stands a scoop above the rest. It’s nothing fancy, and there’s not a lot of seating, but for sheer quality of ice cream at a great price; I’ll take it! I’ve been there twice, and had two completely unique frozen experiences. The first time I had the black raspberry flavor crystal soft serve vanilla ice cream which was just delicious. There were around 10 flavor options available, but with black raspberry as an option; there was really only one worth grabbing. The flavor flirts hand in hand with the vanilla of the ice cream, rather than getting into a brawl over which will conquer your taste buds. It’s a great complimentary addition. Today I noticed the myriad of flavors that could be added to a sundae, and couldn’t help but give it a try. I had a pineapple and raspberry sundae with whipped cream and nuts. Even though the sign said nuts were an extra 30 cents, I didn’t ask for them and I didn’t get charged for them, they were still there. No complaint here, because I love the crunch added to my ice cream, but something to watch for if you have an allergy. The sundae itself was a little piece of heaven. The mixture of the two fruity flavors was just right, and I can’t wait for my next venture there. At only $ 2.65 for a large sundae, there’s no complaints here whatsoever. No matter your pleasure, be it hot dogs, brats, burgers or ice cream; Shopes has what you’re looking for. Definitely check this place out!
