I credit Call of Duty and Walking Dead for the entire world’s current obsession with zombies. The idea of being in the middle of a zombie apocalypse is exciting, scary and awesome all at the same time. The Claremont Zombie Run allows you to experience the apocalypse, doing everything you can to stay away from walkers/zombies and stay alive(except with no lethal weapons, of course). The event took place at the Claremont Botanical Gardens. This run was described at a 3−5k, depending on what path you choose. Luckily, this zombie run could be more like a zombie walk if you chose not to run(me!). It was 90+ degrees on the day of the event, so running was not going to happen for me. However, zombies are placed throughout the gardens so if you want to avoid them, a bit of running is required. Also, you can go through the trail as many times as you wanted! How it works is you grab a flag belt(flag football style) and put it around your waist. From there, you enter the start of the trail and hope you finish the run with at least one flag still attached. If all your flags are taken, it’s no big deal, you’re just a zombie now! Jk. Zombies were placed everywhere – some were in a pack while others were alone. Don’t let their sluggish style fool you, these zombies will sneak up on you and take your flag is you’re not careful. My only wish was that there were more zombies(I mean, no amount is never enough). When you reach the finish line for the first time, you get a ticket for either a free water, soda or beer. I’m not a fan of beer and my metal mouth prevents me from drinking soda, so water it was! The entire event was very well planned and organized. All the staff was really nice and helpful with directions. Everyone got an event shirt to remember this event by. The shirt is really nice too! There were food trucks and vendors at the event, as well as someone from Epic Meal Time!!! Pretty sure that was the guy(if you don’t know Epic Meal Time, you’re probably a vegetarian). Overall, great event and if you’re into zombies, make sure to look out for the next Claremont Zombie Run.
