Outstanding place to learn judo. Great for kids. Great for families. Great for anyone that wants to learn the sport.
They have numerous programs to meet the needs of beginners all the way up to world class competitors.
Along with several «friendlies» (scrimmages) they host the USJA/​USJF Winter Nationals each December. Well, worth checking out.
The spinoff clubs Discover Judo (in Rancho Cucamonga), Industry Sheriff’s (In Industry) & Empire Judo (Fontana) are also well worth of a look.

This is probably an okay place to practice judo if you have some experience. However, if you are like me and lack martial arts experience and/​or are not in great shape, then be warned; you could be seriously injured!
I attended classes here for about two weeks before I severely injured my shoulder. I haven’t been back since. That was over three months ago and my shoulder still isn’t fully recovered. I’m not sure if it ever will be the same.
My injury could’ve been avoided, but they spent about forty-​five minutes «teaching» me the basics before throwing me in with the rest of the class where the skill level ranges from beginner to over-​zealous-​relatively-​experienced.
After my initial lesson, I was never separated from the rest of the class and this is how I injured my shoulder. We were warming up, which involved doing falling rolls on the mats. Well I was doing them incorrectly and tweaked my shoulder. No one corrected my form because no one paid attention to what the new guy was doing. Later that night I was doing randori with another student who is very enthusiastic. He sent me for a throw, I landed on my tweaked shoulder, I heard a snap, and just like that I was in the worst pain of my life. The older guys tried telling me that I «should’ve taken the fall» as if I knew what that meant. I had just spent money on the class, gi, and a book outlining moves for advancement. So I spent quite a bit of money on this place and you’d think that they’d show some level of concern for my well-​being if for no other reason than the fact that I was a paying customer.
I haven’t heard a peep out of anyone since I hobbled out of the community center that night, save for the mass e-​mailing list, which I had to request to be taken off of.
Bottom line: you get what you pay for.

This is an traditional Judo Dojo. This means they are not in business to make up diplomas, sell colorful belts, make a new style of martial arts, or profit from your registration. No-​one has a «natural talent» for Judo because everyone discovers that while they might have a technique or two that comes easily, there are plenty of other weakness and skills to work on! Each person encounters their own challenges, and is taught the tricks on how to do the moves so they work. The club nurtures the traditional mind-​body discipline that martial arts are supposed to be.
When you show-​up, a dedicated team of kind and entertaining sensei instructors will teach all levels of grappling, throws, fights, physical fitness including mental integrity. All sizes, ages of students, are welcome. And for you ladies — where else can women wrestle? Participants will be sweaty — and proud of themselves.
The instructors are superb, and the price is right.
I highly recommend the experience of a work-​out on a judo mat. Go for it!

Goltz Judo is a fantastic place to train. If you are new you will be welcomed, and if you’ve been here for a while you become like family.
There is a large student base and he does well with children. He has a great curriculum for judo and he chooses to cover the entire curriculum from standing to mat-​work grappling.
The class can be broken down to the first hour of warm ups and ground work (newaza); ground grappling and ground drills. The second hour can be broken down to standing drills, light to heavy sparring and then the night is usually finished with sparring sessions that start and end the way an actual judo match would go.
The instructors here are great. They have decades of experience and are high ranking and respected judo instructors. Each instructor offers his own angle of judo experience, different body types, strategies and they are all patient, willing and eager to spread the knowledge and martial art of judo to those who want to learn.
Hands down more inexpensive than any place. You will NOT be dropping $ 120+ a month for training. But the quality and the amount of time, practice and individual time spent per student and group by an experienced judo instructor (sensei) is great.
He is great at making students into teachers over time. This is NOT a black belt factory or a McDojo. If you get a belt, it is because you earned it. You have studied the curriculum, you have competed and you are able to hold your own against your peers of the same rank from other dojos.
You will have many many many opportunities to test yourself or be tested. The Judo world is actually pretty small, especially in Southern California. Many of the older sensei’s were students at many of the same dojo’s, so a tournament is less «karate kid kumite» and more like a «family reunion» but instead of grandma’s potato salad you are doing grandpa’s throws and chokes.
Judo is a great martial art with practical applications. If you are military, law enforcement, a first responder, parent, child, athlete looking for a challenge or just want to get in or stay in shape, Judo is a great activity for you.
As you start to promote, naturally your responsibility and roll in the dojo will grow as well. You will slowly be taught how to teach and eventually lead warm ups, practices and learn how referee judo matches. You will be taught to teach others and grow and spread judo; as that is also a major goal of the instructors here.

Goltz Judo Club has exceptional instruction that can be compared to any other judo club. With various degrees of experience, there is something for everyone here.
There are many aspects in joining. Learning traditional judo, getting a great cardiovascular workout, learning self-​defense, and meeting new friends to name a few. Safety is always a priority and members choose what level they wish to participate in.
All in all, Goltz Judo Club is a friendly environment that welcomes everyone.

My daughter joined the Olympic Judo class in September 2006. I was impressed by the high quality of instruction, the low instructor-​to-​student ratio, the number of female students in the class, and the sense of camaraderie in the club. My daughter still thinks it’s just good fun. At $ 75 per quarter for one-​hour lessons three times a week, the class is not only an excellent bargain, but a tremendous value as well. We highly recommend it!
