OK, so we’ve been to Kenta’s many times and although it’s true that the store seems to be open a lot less these days, the owner does have a phone number on the door so if you really want to get in there, she’ll arrange a time with you and she will open the store. Granted, I much prefer when the kimono is out in the hall so we can just go in when it’s obviously convenient for us since we happen to be walking by. I hate to call her just so we can buy a few cute little things, mainly Japanese candy and erasers, so I haven’t done that yet.

I’m standing in front of the place on a Thursday 4:30and it’s closed again. This place is rarely open and when it is the lady stays in the back and is abrasive when you ask questions.

Kenta’s is an awesome little gem of a store, hidden in one of Claremont Village’s «hallways.» You enter the open doors between The Bamboo Tea House and 42nd Street Bagel. Go down the long hallway, just past Viva Madrid restaurant. They have all kinds of products from Japan, many of which you can’t find elsewhere easily, if at all. Items include tableware, clothing, candies, toys, trinkets, etc. It’s kind of funny that the store has a following of local kids due to the unique candies. Prices range from $$$$ to 25 cents… something for everyone! =)
