The Claremont Club

The front desk customer service was bad. One of the ladies was so clueless about what I’m was talking on my sons private lesson. I thin she has serious receptive problem with communications. Hard to believe the club would hire this person to deal with customer relations.

Worse service ever. I signed up for a group swimming class and wait for a week for them to confirm the time slot. After multiple calls trying to find out the time, they finally are able to answer the calls. The only answer I get is: WAIT. They show the lease of care to your situation, and very bureaucratic
Hard to believe that business like that has not gone bankruptcy in year 2016

One star because they force you to make an appointment to come in for basic information, do not answer phone calls, or even list prices on their website.
Just bad business in my opinion.
If you believe in your product or service you will not need to hide facts about it.

I took a power plate class with Andrea and a TRX class with Denise. I would highly recommend both classes. The TRX was my favorite by far. I am definitely a beginner and was a little worried at first, but both classes were perfect. There was definitely no gym intimidation. I was able to keep up in both classes and I felt like I got a great workout. I was a little sore after TRX which I like because it feels like I’m getting stronger and working out all of the muscles that I’ve been neglecting. Power plate felt like a good, lighter work out which was perfect because I was still a little sore. I am definitely going back and I’m going to try to bring my friends with me next time.

I am so pleased with the new locker room. Everything is classy. The lockers are of better quality, the shower stalls are so much nicer, the steam room is spectacular, there is so much more room too! Martel Interiors did a great job designing the whole area so it is more pleasing to the eye and more functional. I look forward to each visit so much more. I am more inclined to invite people to visit and tell others about The Claremont Club. If you have not been here lately go and see how great the place is.

5 Star review for coach Berrie. Tennis courts are in very good shape and my boys enjoyed playing CTC tournament and practice here. Coach Berrie has unique personality and very kind to all kids around. He’s exceptionally professional tennis coach and worth to drive every mile for me and my boys from Glendale even though it’s not a close from where we live.
This review is about tennis experience and only, I’m not a member here and didn’t have a chance to experience other amenities. I saw spa area that looks very clean and remodeled. Also there is a spa, dry and wet. All food they bring from near by supermarket calls Wolfgang (not too sure if spelling is right). Tried spring rolls, was ok.

I have been here for almost 3 yrs and from when I got here to now they have been fixing up the place. They just redid the lock rooms and it is night and day from where it was. Locker area is nice and a lot more space to relax in the front of the Locker room area and looks 1^st class. There is also new cardio equipment which runs on Bluetooth headphones and your own TV, which is nice, so now don’t need to worry about headphone cord banging around when doing cardio. I love it and cab also hang out on the grounds if you want. If you love tennis and racket ball you have that too. Plus I like to workout and you don’t get that gym feel when you workout like you do at 24 hour or LA fitness.

I love this place! I go workout 4 days a week and the staff and personnel are awesome! Everything is up to date (i.e. equipment, locker rooms, pools and café) my 2 kids love the kids club. Very friendly staff and a great place overall.

My wife and I enjoy the many resources we have available to us and the outstanding kids programs, which do not come close to anything other gyms have to offer. For the price and the options, the Claremont club is far better.

Such a positive and friendly environment to work out in. It is a bit pricey, but as they say, «you get what you pay for». The women’s locker room was recently renovated and is kept so clean and beautiful. My son loves coming here because they have an engaging child care staff. Love this place!

I’ve been a member here since 2008. I read some negative reviews about the price but you get what you pay for. Prior to my membership here, I had been a member of less expensive clubs like LA fitness, 24 hour fitness and Ballys over the years and none of them can match up to the Claremont Club. I work out here approximately five times a week and have been since I started my membership. They have an excellent weight room with numerous machines and free weights that are updated from time to time. The cardio floor has a variety of Precor, Lifefitness, and Octane machines in addition to others that are well maintained and updated. All workout areas have towel service as well is the locker room. The best thing in my opinion that no other club can boast is the Olympic pool where I like to swim several times a week. The pool staff is always helpful in the pool condition/​heat is always perfect.
I have my own locker that makes it very convenient to work out in the middle of my workday at lunch. My interactions with the front desk staff and other staff has always been pleasant and professional. The locker room staff is friendly and have always been helpful. I have not had any of the negative experiences described in the other reviews here.
The spin classes are excellent and the bikes are rotated/​updated regularly and well-​maintained. The cycling room floor was recently refurbished. I usually attend the race day spin class on Saturdays and highly recommended it.
Overall it is more expensive than other gyms/​clubs but it is worth it. The men’s locker room is currently being refurbished and they have made accommodations for men in the family locker rooms. The photographs of the women’s locker room which has been completed look excellent. I look forward to the completion of the men’s locker room facilities.

My wife and I once belonged. She went for the water aerobics classes, which were good, except for the participants expressing their political views.
We quit because they have more than their share of snobs. For example, I heard one in the men’s locker room loudly telling another snob that all the women in the water aerobics class were fat cows. This was while my wife was in the class. I soon quit. Too much money to be insulted.

Stay away from this place! Tried to end my sons membership which I pay for. Was told if I stop the auto deductions my son will be sent to collections by Magda. My son sends the required email to cancel, gets no response but guess what they take the money again. Shannon the manager doesn’t have the authority to refund $ 60. ??? She’s just great at saying too bad so sad! Beware don’t go there ! Their main interest isn’t customer care that is certain

This is not just a gym. The Club is a lifestyle.
It’s got 2 great pools, one of which is more for laps but the other (most times) is great for hanging out and letting the kids do their thing. It’s got tennis facilities (huge part of the club), raquetball, weights and cardio, etc.
But for my family, the real draw is the lifestyle. They do summer camp there, there are summer evening picnics and concerts… the kids court (free babysitting!!) is good for a couple hours a day every day. My daughter has friends there and looks forward to it. Even infant care is available.
On weekends, we sometimes just hang out at the Club, to take advantage of many of the facilities and events. My 6 year old doesn’t ask to go to Chuck E Cheese, the mall… she asks to hang out at the club. It’s great.

The Claremont Club is an excellent fit for our needs. Both my wife and I take advantage of their excellent weight room and cardio facilities, as well as the nice variety of classes. The staff is friendly and the trainers are very professional and knowledgable. The In Zone for kids is a nice service, as well. The kids always have a good time.

So I’m going to give you the low down about this place. I’ve been a member for… well, many years. We’ll say 1+ years so they don’t read this and figure out who I am. And exercised here. Until recently.
In a word? This place is very political.
I am no longer a member here. When I reached 21 a few years ago, they automatically canceled my membership even though my middle class family had been members for almost a decade. They are under the assumption that once you reach 21, you are out of the house and have a job to afford a membership here. So they kick you off the family account. That’s very old and convoluted thinking but its the reason they have for this policy. But I am not bitter. I decided not to pay the outrageous single member price for membership and joined a Spin Studio nearby.
But with this club, It’s all about who you know. In regards to how much you pay each month (yes, there are more lesser-​known levels of membership than «family», «corporate», «educator» price options), getting hired here (or prevented from getting hired), how many «guests» you can bring in to the club without paying for a guest pass… etc. Basically, reputation, status and money precede everything. Not behavior, loyalty and principles. But that’s fine. I’ve been told that’s what the real world is like and this place (which I used to call home) is no exception.
I wish I could share certain examples or conversations overheard, but that would give away my identity undoubtedly and if you are ever on the bad list with anyone at this club, it follows you for a while. Also something I’ve witnessed with multiple people.
If you want to be a member here, my advice: keep your head down, just do your work out, don’t complain, and smile to everyone. Do not get on an *instructor’s bad side*. Do not get into arguments with certain members– old and young. If you are ever in confrontation with a member who was in the wrong but knows/​is friends with any of the Club’s admins, you WILL be thrown under the buss. There are a lot of two-​faced people working here. And nothing is forgotten here. Grudges last a long time here. Strings get pulled regularly and social clicks rule among the members. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of awesome, normal and kind people here. People like you, who have followed the advice I mentioned above and not busied themselves with reliving high school drama. These are the people who don’t rock the boat here.
If you want to work here, my advice: there’s a lot of gossip and side-​taking here that seems to come with the job. NEVER tell your coworker or friend/​boss something that you wouldn’t want anyone else to hear! I’ve heard things I shouldn’t have with no effort on my part. It is scary. Make sure to stay out of it. It will bite you back in the butt. There are a lot of people who enjoy conflict and have never quite left high school. You will meet ridiculously absurd, arrogant, older and younger members with a superiority complex who will complain about you. Do your job, smile, record in a journal everything confrontational that happens and impress the members so they recommend you and create a buffer when one of those arrogant members decides to flex their mouth and talk bad about you even though you’ve never met them before.
Last tip– don’t get into a relationship with your coworker (s) here. That’s obvious advice but especially more risky here. It happens all the time and news spreads fast here. Coworkers and patrons are constantly watching when you think they aren’t watching. Its just part of the environment here. Everyone who doesn’t have a life of their own is extremely nosey. So keep that in mind.
I want to end by saying this. I miss this place a lot. Primarily the Olympic pool and the locker rooms. But that’s all I miss. A clean and nice pool is rare at a gym. The locker room has a sauna and steam room– also very clean. That’s all I miss. The exercise rooms are old, have horrible paint jobs (years ago they were light sky blue. Now they are gray/​dark colors). But make friends with the staff right away. The more friends you have the better.

Tressa is a miserable person to deal with. My interaction with her recently found her to be rude, disrespectful, unprofessional and confrontational. Our family is fairly new to the club, and we had been attempting to take advantage of the many services they offer over the summer (Children’s day camp, swim lessons and tennis lessons.) I expressed an interest to extend my child’s swim lessons (as a «camp» attendee they are solely restricted to a single time slot during the day — no if’s, and’s or but’s). I can somewhat understand the restriction, but disagree that non-​camp attendees can occupy the slot which then restricts the # of available positions that the camp attendees have available to them… and can result in no space. Such was my situation. I followed up with Tressa, as she had requested, a day after my inquiry of adding my child. When I approached her and began to recount our conversation from the previous afternoon, I found her to be rude, disrespectful and unprofessional.
Based on my experience, I was not comfortable addressing my concerns with her, so I approached an office manager the following morning to express my concerns. I decided during that same day that I was not comfortable continuing my child’s camp nor lessons based on my experience. When I returned in the evening I cancelled my remaining camp weeks (for which I would not be financially penalized) and returned to the swim center to do the same for the swim lessons that I had extended for later in the summer. It was at this time that I found Tressa to be confrontational. She was apparently disgruntled at having received the negative feedback and once she realized that I was the individual who had raised the concern, started on the offensive. She was incredulous that I had raised a concern, and immediately started in by making accusations at me. My bigger concern was her lack of decorum as she did this while my small child stood beside me.
My review is not intended to cover the swim program, which she apparently manages, but rather the interaction I have had with her related to the swim program, and subsequent follow up. I am sure the swim program is delightful, but the mere fact that I have to interact with Tressa in order to experience it, is enough to keep me away, as well as the friends I have recently referred, and lead the charge in exploring alternate options.
It was my impression that she either does not receive feedback, or simply does not receive it well, as she became defensive and accusatory when I raised my concerns to another facility manager. The lack of Customer Service and Operational response with my issue has me concerned about future interactions with this Club that I had otherwise found pleasant or convenient. I expressed to the Office Manager that a mere apology was all that I was looking for in order to change my position.
I intend to post a separate review of the general workout area/​building services and personnel, but felt this experience warranted its own review.

I agree with all the recent negative reviews – crazy prices ($ 200 a month for a family membership! $ 135 if you’re a corporate member, but they’re not taking any new ones anymore). In May they charged everyone $ 50 on top of the membership for a host of ambiguously outlined reasons.
Childcare is a NIGHTMARE. Our friends with infants/​toddlers refuse to use the childcare facilities, which entail lots of TV and mixed-​up bottles (giving your kids someone else’s bottle). Kids Court for older children will charge you random fees WITHOUT warning, and then when you bring it up to the director she and her staff will lie and insist that they’ve told you before, when they haven’t.

I don’t work out here, not do I plan on it. I drove 90 minutes for an Insanity certification class. Yes, you know… the crazy Insanity DVDs you’ve seen on TV. Yeah, I’m an instructor now.
So, what can I review? I can review the facilities and service.
Upon parking, I said to myself…“wow, this is how the OTHER half lives”. this isn’t a gym. it’s a club.
I only explored the main floor while looking for my room. The workers were nice. There’s a café there… and I was offered a free sample of their new gingerbread smoothie. Yes, for real.
The café is the only place you’ll get good wifi connection.
So the best part of this club? The women’s locker room. I know what you are thinking.“really…but YES. This is a lounge… not a regular lockerroom. Massage chairs, permanent hair dryers, coffee machines, showers galore. I mean, it’s huge.
I won’t be back (it’s just too far) but I would tell others about it!
