Sometimes you need a cup of Joe. Yes Joe. Not coffee or a triple-venti-mocha soy latte monstrosity from corporate-bucks. And sometimes you need food that is «just ok». Regular salt and pepper and ketchup are the condiments. No shaved black truffles or duck confit apple-cores and gilded apricot pits. Just food. So when you’re in Claremont and you need both of these things, I recommend village grille. I had a gyro and a coffee. I got bread with meat in it. Processed and probably previously frozen mean. No fancy-pants organic grass fed anything. It was salty and good and probably bad for me. Had Some lettuce and tomatoes on the side, and a red mug with black liquid in it. It was refilled from a drip-coffee pot that looks like it has been in use since the 1950’s when men were real men and women were classy. Yeah that kind of coffee pot. An American coffee pot. My waitress was a cute one with a perky demeanor and the smile to match. Young kid on her first job. Ambitious because that aforementioned coffee-mug never emptied. I paid $ 16 with the tip. Because I’m cheap and lazy, like today’s America. So come eat here so the perky waitress can make a better living. Also for a lot of coffee on the cheap. Come for that too. Eat something while you’re at it. You should eat here if you want a decent meal and a cup of coffee. Nothing bad but nothing spectacular either. If you need something fancier than that kiddo, then go find some Crepes back in Paris.

This was one of the first places I went to when I moved to Claremont. They serve breakfast all day and that is clutch. Their cheese sauce for their fries is fantastic. I also recommend highly their biscuits and gravy. This was a place I would get take out from on grey, cold mornings. Eat breakfast in bed. The staff is nice and prompt. It can be hard to get a seat sometimes. I like to come here when my family is in town.

Pfffttt never AGAIN. Very dirty looks. Scary server. I did NOT feel welcomed. I work at a restaurant and I ALWAYS tip, but today not so much. I expected a nice diner to be better than this. Very bad. I would not recommend. Only put one star because I couldn’t but zero

This 50’s Burger joint is pretty solid. The average wait time for food to arrive is 10mins, which is very expectable. Sometimes it gets crowded with people, but it’s worth the wait regardless of issue or situation. They maintain a clean and tidy establishment, so you can’t go wrong with stopping by to try some of their grub.

They get one star because the servers were trying. but the food took FOREVER. We saw a few people actually get up and leave because they had been waiting too long already. Food was below average. We had a party of five and all the food came out piece mail. I actually waiting the longest and I ordered chilli cheese fries — should have been the easiest/fastest– Don’t think we’ll be coming back.

Just went there for some breakfast, very good pancakes! I would recommend the pancakes to anyone who comes for breakfast; it is served all day. I ordered the Village Champ meal, and it was very filling. I didn’t try the cinnamon rolls though, but I’ve heard they are very good. They are homemade fresh, as advertised. It is very nicely decorated, the atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. They played some nice old music, and the place really felt like a 50s diner. However, it’s slightly cramped in there and the bathroom is very small. Not very much room to move around in there. All in all, very food food for a quick and cheap stop.

Are you kidding me? food is inedible. Eggs were raw and uncooked. Hash brown was stale, probably from weeks ago. I wouldn’t eat this garbage if you have this to me for free. Upset because I can’t even return the food because I ordered to go. This is ridiculous. The cooks here can’t cook for their own lives. Do not order eggs sunny side up because they can only cook it scrambled or cooked all the way through. And it still won’t be cooked good but at least it won’t be raw. Cooks need to be fired !!! Or trained how to cook.

I love this place. I think it is the best restaurant in town. The people who work there have mostly been working there for many years, so I know they get treated right by the owner. Of course, this is standard greasy spoon diner food. But it is the best greasy spoon diner food ever. I like the tuna melt and the reuben best.

I came in today for breakfast after the farmers market. I ordered a English muffin with egg cheese and I substituted the bacon or ham which was a dollar more. When my order arrived I had hashbrowns. I originally ordered home fries. When my order was brought it had hash browns. I replied to the person who brought out my order. Her reply was we ran out out of home fries I I replied at least someone could’ve came and told me. When my waitress came by I explain it to her. They replace it with slice tomatoes. Will I return NO !!

Their breakfast is awesome! This is pretty much like Ruby’s Diner, except Village Grille gives it an even more ’50’s flair located on a 1950’s «Main St.» type of location. I don’t eat here very often, so I’ll give a review of what I had yesterday. I ordered the Belgian Waffle combo which comes with a side of bacon and eggs(I ordered mine scrambled) and a coffee. The portion is pretty standard, especially for an under-$ 10 price range. I liked how the cook put the butter on the waffle, while the waffle itself was piping hot, and the bacon was cooked to a crisp, like how bacon is supposed to be cooked. The coffee tasted great, and they even had complimentary half&half, but the little problem I had was that they did not have«raw sugar» like you would find at a Starbucks or Coffee Bean(but hey, it’s a ’50’s-type diner, so I wouldn’t expect something fancy), but I was okay with the brown sugar one would put in their oatmeal in the morning(not a big fan of white granulated sugar in my coffee that much anymore). Nothing much else to say anymore, but all in all, it’s a pretty spiffy little place if you like to grab a little breakfast in the morning. :)

My fiancé and i love coming here after our fun run or fun bike ride every Sunday for breakfast. They have friendly staff and very attentive and generous. I love the spinach avocado omelette(Sunday specials) $ 10.99. I wish they had flavored coffee creamer.

The diner idea is cute but wasn’t too impressed. I ordered an omelette and they didn’t have any jalapeños which is fine. But when I asked for my cheese on the side, I guess I assumed it would be shredded, I wasn’t expecting an actual slice of cheese! I can see why a certain crowd is drawn to that restaurant but definitely won’t be returning until I’m about 55 – 60. Just seemed so «cheap,» and lacked anything unique or tasteful.

I’ve spent so much time here over the years. In 8th grade I used to come after school with my best friends and we’d get French fries and share. I’m sure the employees were frustrated with the amount of kids ordering food who brought large groups of their friends, but they always were willing to help us and were very patient! Fast forward to now, I’m in college. I just got breakfast this morning, the service is fast and the food is good. The employees are quick and attentive, always paying attention and asking you if you need anything. The waitress who helped me pick out what I wanted was attentive and had the menu memorised. They do a lot to make their customers happy and I still love eating here years later. Their breakfast is really good!

Love the staff but honestly I’m done with breakfast at The Grill! We’ve been coming here for years — mostly for breakfast. But the last few times the omelets have been terrible — eggs way over cooked to a hard mass. The coffee is terrible, typical diner stuff. Lunch menu is better, my husband likes their burgers and onion rings and I like their Ruben Sandwich. We’ve rarely come for dinner so can’t comment on dinner fare. Oh, the booths are very badly designed, for some reason difficult to accommodate one’s feet under table as the base is way oversized.

The root beer float and butterscotch sundae was so good and sweet, too bad the waitress’s attitude wasn’t the same. She rushed us and kept asking every 2 minutes if we were ready or if we were done eating. The waitress name was Tricia **

Just ok this time. Waitresses couldn’t give a crap about us and it wasn’t that crowded. Food was ok. Nothing special. Been here 25 times but this was probably the worst. Still 3 stars though.

Good 50’s style diner in Claremont. We ordered from the breakfast menu. Opted for the breakfast special, an omelette with tomato and avocado $ 10.99. Also got the Village champ which comes with two eggs, two pancakes, bacon, and hash browns $ 8.29 and coffee, of course! The breakfast was okay and nothing stood out in particular but coffee was refilled frequently. The place is a 50s style diner which is really what makes this place interesting. We were fortunate that a booth was open at 10:30 on a busy Saturday morning. Staff is definitely experienced and our waitress Martha was friendly and efficient.

Save money and time and avoid at all cost. To top it off the server was extremely rude. Went in Monday morning at about 10:10AM and the place was moderately busy to servers on the floor. We stood there for a minute or two and she told us sit anywhere. We sat down and waited for approximately 15 minutes without ever being acknowledged. Finally I stood up to catch her attention and she said I’ll be with you in a minute. After waiting another five minutes we stood up and walked out of the restaurant. We had business at a another merchant a couple doors down from this location. We shared what had just happened with him. He said that is normal for them. That no one in his shop will eat there. He promptly gave us the names of two other eateries nearby and we went and tried one of those. I am happy to report we walked in a very busy location and promptly seated and order taken all with in two minutes. So if you have somewhat of a schedule in your life or need to be someplace within two hours I would not recommend going to eat here. If you choose to you have been warned.
