VNA Hospice & Palliative Care

If you are going to use Home Hospice Care please do not use VNA. They are truly the most uncaring organization I have ever run into. My husband is dying as we speak. He has developed the «death rattle» (secretions). I am home alone with him. I did call Hospice, they told me to give him his anti-​secretion medications every 4 hours and call them when he dies! I am an 81 year old woman who has been married to my husband for 43 years. We have no family here in California. I decided to go with Hospice Care because I knew I could not handle this alone. Little did I know that all they are interested in is the big fat check they get from Medi-​care (I checked their billing). The nurse came out for a few minutes twice a week, but still I stuck with it thinking, well they will be there at the end and help me to cope. Big Joke! The only decent thing was the aides who gave him a bath a couple times a week. Other than that I was made to feel like a criminal if I even called to ask for some help or even advice. The nurses who answer the telephones are very rude and uncaring. I had no idea, that I would be left alone to dispense his medications at the hours of his death. This organization has absolutely no compassion. Check out Hospices thoroughly before you decide on one. Just be aware of bad ones such as this. VNA has no compassion!

Myself and my other coworker have been taking care of our patient for the past 6 years. He was truly our family. Our patient had been with VNA before in the past and we absolutely loved them. The beginning of September, our patient needed to be on hospice. We got in contact with VNA hospice and they have made not only my patient feel more at peace towards his end of life, but also helped us as care takers feel like we were not alone and helped us with anything we needed as well. They never got tired of our questions, they always called us to check up on us and were very professional in any situation that came up. Dr. D, his nurse Ed, Danielle, Monica and also his chaplain Nina were God sent to us. Thank you to the VNA doctors, nurses and staff, they all made my patients last days exactly the way he wanted it to be. Thank you all!!!
