Had a great time searching for the perfect tree. It took us a while, I think last years Snowvember put a hurting on a lot of them. The search was fun though, and they provided us with twine to tie it down.

Ah, Christmas time. Time to go enjoy the traditions and go hunt down a tree to cut and kill forever. This is actually my first live Christmas tree. I come from fake tree people, for the last 8 Christmases we’ve had a beautiful artificial tree from Costco. When we moved from WA to NY, I did the great purge of 2015 and got rid of anything I didn’t feel attached to. The fake tree did not make the cut to stay with our stuff, it went to a dump where I’m sure it will spend all of eternity. I Unilocaled for Christmas trees because I have a toddler and feel like I want to spend the next 4 weeks constantly asking him to stop touching the tree. Jurek farms is close by in Clarence and fit the bill! VERY big tree farm, you drive past it before you pull in to the lot. We came on a Saturday so it was very busy. We originally wanted to buy a pre-cut tree because we are lazy folk, but the pre-cut trees were all HUGE and we did not need a 12′ tall one. So we grabbed a saw and started walking back in the«forest» to find one of suitable height for our house. They have a tractor that can take you back, but since we had already committed to sawing down a tree ourselves I said, «let’s walk!». We went over to the Spruce Field(they have a map showing what kinds of trees are where) and I chose one I felt met the basic needs we had. Our house has 10′ ceilings and my husband is 6’6″, so I was looking for one taller than him but shorter than what I think our ceilings are. The one I picked was about 6″ taller than my husband. This is the 1st mistake I will make, since I will tell you right now I should have gone taller. Once you cut the tree and then cut off some branches to make room for the tree stand, you’ve lost a foot. So now I know in the future, go big or go home. They provide saws but be warned, they are not very sharp. I hilariously watched my husband trying to saw off a tree using something a little sharper than a jailhouse shank. Bring your own sharp saw or small chainsaw if you want to cut the tree down quickly. They have tractors coming and going to the fields and you can have them haul your tree back for you but my husband is Mr. Tough Guy so he carried our tree over his head like it was a slaughter on the 10 minute walk back to where you pay and they process it. The downside to what he did is other people saw him and then assumed he worked there, so they asked him for help with their trees. My Husband is Canadian and isn’t able to say«No» to people when they ask, so he ended up helping no less than 4 people get trees over top their cars and secure them. When I was paying for our tree($ 52 with tax. All cut your own trees are the same price regardless of height or type) I even joked that we should get a discount because my husband was out working in their parking lot for them. They had a homeless looking«Santa» for picture taking and they sell refreshments and hotdogs. I bought a hot chocolate from them and was very amused when they handed me a luke warm cup of water and a packet of mix. All in all, this place is a winner for me. It’s close by, the prices aren’t bad, I got to be amused watching my husband be put to work(true fact, he was once a logger so he actually was a lumberjack), and I got to pretend I was a lumberjack when I found a random plugged in chainsaw near the pay stand and I insisted I cut off some branches myself. So if you were here today and saw a deranged looking chubby woman with a hot chocolate mustache laughing manically while clutching a chain saw in the air, it was me. HI! Oh! BRINGCASH! They do take credit cards but the line was super long and the pay by cash line had no one in it.

I understand that there aren’t many cut-your-own Christmas tree locations in WNY anymore but… $ 52 to cut your own tree seems pretty steep to me, especially for a modestly-sized tree. I guess I should’ve checked the website for pricing before we went. Unfortunately, this place might be going the way of Becker Farms; popularity is driving the price up up up for the«down on the farm» experience. I think we might be doing a pre-cut from another local place next year…

I love this tree farm. My family and I have been coming here for a couple years now. I really like the atmosphere and the people who run it. Everyone is very warm, welcoming, and friendly. There is something about the place that screams CHRISTMAS!!! Maybe it’s the fact that it’s a Christmas tree farm or that they have Santa visits. Either way I love the feeling I get when i come here. They offer a wagon ride after you pick out a tree, or you could walk back like my dad makes us do… I always try to carry the tree with my brother. In the back of the tree selections there is a small warming shelter where people can enter and sit for a couple of minutes if it is really cold outside. This is a nice feature, one that most tree farms do not offer. For a number of years my family went somewhere else, but that place could not produce any more trees so we were forced to find another place to go for our tree. I would never go anywhere else for a Christmas tree. Everything I mentioned is why I love this place. I will keep recommending this place until they close for good, which I hope never happens!
