Olde Mill Inn of Clarkston

I stayed here during the end of December and early January to attend my mother’s funeral. Tim and his mother were warm and gracious hosts and when I came down with a cold brought me herbal teas and offered to pick up supplies and cold medication at the store– way above & beyond hospitality services I could have found elsewhere!
My room was warmly decorated in Lodge style furnishings and clean, plush bedding. There was even a cute Moose rug next to my bed! My room was very clean and cleaning staff were friendly and helpful and brought me towels, kleenex, and extra coffee supplies with a smile. The place is very peaceful and I so enjoyed the tranquil pond views and watching and feeding the ducks and geese. I will recommend this place to everyone I know who travels to this area of Michigan. The LA Café restaurant is right next door with great food, baked goods and expresso coffee drinks. Convenient!
I saw the previous bad reviews from a few individuals and can only imagine that they are not happy in many areas of their life. This place, the owners, Tim and his Mom, and their excellent staff are peaceful loving service oriented gems in the world of hospitality! All American Good old fashioned service at it’s best! I salute you for the wonderful place you have created.

Will start by saying owners started out nice! The rooms on the other hand are not! Very small & need of a lot of work! Yes bed are small (2 full size) & yes very hard! Not one night did we I ever get a good night sleep! Well our dog did! He slept in own bed for the full four days whenever we were in the room! Speaking of our dog, We brought our support animal & was charged $ 50 to have carpet cleaned which was never charged that ever before & just stayed in Wixom back in May! The carpets needed cleaning way before we arrived! Unfortunately, I didn’t wear my shoes the first day & by the evening my feet were black! Our dog wouldn’t walk on the carpet! He stayed on the bed the whole time!
Then we had issues with people (other customers) smoking right outside our room, & on the patio deck in front of our window! The main issues with 1^st part is they were NOT smoking cigarettes! We complained on the 2^nd day because we got tired of smelling it every time we walked out the door or pulled in when coming back! Don’t know who they were the first day, but the people on the 2^nd day were people staying there & were known to the owner!!!
Then didn’t understand why of all the tables out on the back patio (lakeside) why the people who did smoke cig. always chose to sit in front of our window! Meaning we had to keep our blinds closed continuously! Thought that was very rude & disrespectful! No we don’t smoke! So for us if you are going to smoke go do it & sit in front of your own room!!!
Could go on but the last big issue was checkout!
Owner offered me an extended checkout since our flight wasn’t leaving till 7pm said he would charge us a half day price since the cleaning team would be getting in to clean our room later! My husband went to talk to him around 12:30 & the owner said he told me no such thing! I was not at the property so I then had rush back to the hotel & load our car in order to be out by 1pm! Then owner had nerve to ask if we had somewhere to go!!!
The only memorable part of this stay were the ducks!!!
I would NEVER stay again!!!
Might be nice area, but extended stay customers or friends of owners don’t make it a very nice place to stay!!! Oh yea, says no pets allowed, & we were allowed cuz of our support animal! Who does the cat belong to that was sitting in the window (inside the room) on the non-​lakeside! Wasn’t the same cat that owners had either!!!
What a joke!
