The one stop I always make whenever I head back east. Been going there for years and it’s always great.

Not what they use to be. It seems like the current owner changed a lot of the former owners recipes. The rolls are too soft, not that crusty Italian roll that hoagies and cheesesteaks should have. Hate the rolls they use. The pizza is nowhere near as good as former owner. Besides the cashiers, does anyone there speak fluent English. All Hispanic except for the cashiers.

As seems to be a theme here, the cheese steak was dry and would have benefited from a more generous portion of cheese. The largest size easily feeds two… they are packed with steak. They charge for water… bring your own.

Pizza was good, price was right. Looking forward to trying the sandwiches next time around.

Came here for a business lunch. Meet was tasty and not overly dry. Onions and provolone cheese. In retrospect I should have added the pepper.

A customer over the span of decades: but it seems that over time that their cheesesteaks lack in flavor with little to no seasoning. No real options for spices or peppers. They only offer long hots(italian hot peppers) instead of offering jalapeño and/or habanero peppers. For the price of french fries — they offer very little. At almost $ 4 for a one-size only order of fries, I usually skip that option and run to Five Guys to get my fries to complete the meal. Pros: Hours, speed of service Cons: Lack of flavor, variety of sides and extras

Weird! Peeps seem to put the mayonnaise on the top of the cheesesteak? I’ve never seen anything like it, why not put the mayonnaise on the Bun. Make a normal cheesesteak. Harley no cheese! Weak! I guess you have to go to Philadelphia to get a real cheesesteak. Weak! John Roast pork in Philadelphia hear I come.

I had a chicken cheesesteak and it was really good! But they charge extra for EVERYTHING if you want mayo in the side there’s a fee, if you want to switch the cheese from chedder to something else it’s extra, if you want green peppers on your cheesesteak it’s extra. Who charges for these things! Everyone knows cheesesteaks come with peppers and onions.

I got leftovers from a turkey sub the other day. Delicious. The turkey was fresh, the mayo quantity was perfect, and they had one of the better rolls I’ve ever had on a sub. Of course, still not as good as Cap’s Bobbie, but still a pretty good alternative. Before the sub I had the other day, I probably hadn’t eaten at Claymont Steak Shop in a couple years. I had been to the one on South Main Street, and had a delicious cheese steak. I would definitely recommend Claymont Steak Shop to anyone looking for a fresh sub or an authentic Philadelphia cheese steak without actually having to go into the city.

I think this place is totally solid, but not if you’re looking for a classic Philly cheesesteak. What’s really good from here are the special/fancy steaks. For example, I had a chicken cheesesteak with onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, and provolone cheese. It was DEEEE-LICIOUS! If you come here expecting a Philly cheesesteak with whiz, you’re going to be disappointed. The«small» steaks are approximately 12 inches long and can easily feed two people, so either be prepared to stuff yourself until you’re in pain or to have leftovers for another day. The other good thing about this place is that their delivery time is approximately the speed of light, so your hunger pangs won’t last too long! I will be back, for sure.

Not even close. Sorry. When I dream of a Philly cheesesteak, I will not dream of this place. The onions are prefried. The meat is partially cooked and unseasoned. This makes for a rather dry, non-tasty cheesesteak. Soooo disappointing! Won’t be headed back that way again. Three stars instead of two only because the girl behind the counter was so sweet!

My family from Wyoming and Colorado felt our visit to the Philadelphia area would not be complete without a cheesesteak. We chose the Claymont steak shop because it looked easy to get to. I’m sure glad we did. The lady at the counter was very helpful. She suggested we order the small size. They were huge! I can’t imagine what the jumbo would look like. It was delicious! And the onion rings would rank right up there with the best I’ve ever had. Tender and yummy!

I’d never set foot in the state of Delaware until the other day, when I trekked to Claymont Steak Shop for a sandwich. I got a large(not jumbo) cheesesteak with fried onions, provolone, lettuce, tomato and mayo. I know some folks would frown on those last three ingredients, but it was a great sandwich. I love cheesesteaks, but I also love what I would call(not sure I’m accurate) a cheesesteak hoagie(i.e., a cheesesteak with lettuce, tomato, etc.) A very good portion and VERY good. I also had cheese fries(steak fries with cheez whiz) — also good, but too much to eat, really. The service was friendly — even for an obviously newbie. Most CERTAINLY a place I’d visit again if I was anywhere near the area. I wish I could find a place like this where I live.

I guess its because I am from Philly and a cheesesteak snob, but something isnt right. Large portion and the priced accordingly. Long wait times for food during lunch even if you get there early. Salads take forever for some reason.

Good local cheesesteak spot thar always delivers very good cheesesteaks at a reasonable price. Don’t get their fries if you don’t like steak fries, which I don’t. Their service is fast and the quality of food is good.

Good choice when you are in the area. Is it on the level of Steves Price of Steaks double meat pizza steak or Johns Roast Porks(winner for a reason as the best cheese steak in the eyes of WIP and the Philly Inky)? Nope but if you are hankering for a steak sandwich and you find yourself in the area of Total Wines or driving up or down 95 they do a nice job. The steaks are HUGE — packed full of meat. Reminds me of Jim’s on south street in the way the grill is set up — steak meat and fried onions are waiting for individual orders before being stuffed into the roll. Roll was ok, not spectacular. Clean place, plenty of tables. Big menu including hoagies and pizza. Parking lot next door to building.

What my buddy who lives nearby failed to tell me is to not include ANY vegetables(except possibly onions) on your cheesesteak. Back home, you order tomatoes and lettuce on a cheesesteak and they fry all that shit up together and it’s so greasy and delicious. Claymont Steak Shop awkwardly places cold veggies on top of your already massive order of steak and cheese and there is no ergonomic way of eating the damn thing. Other than that the portions of cheese and steak are just right.

Traveling a little further for lunch than usual, I headed here based on a recommendation from my customer. We’re really close to to Philadelphia so there are cheesesteaks galore and that’s what I opted for today. I found it their«medium» size(with provolone and onions, not«wit wiz») to be plenty. It was not greasy and maybe that’s why it was a little dry. I put ketchup on it. Don’t hate me. The restaurant is showing its age, but that’s okay. Sometimes the best food comes from the hole-in-the-wall spots.

If you can avoid that funky smell when you enter and perhaps the area being sketchy, you may enjoy this place. Pro’s: Options galore. Salads, tuna, pizza, philly cheesesteaks, etc. Almost too the point where it leaves one feeling overwhelmed for wanting a quick bite to eat. Different sizes for the sandwiches — Large, Medium, Small. Tons of meat — they chop theirs up finely! Bread was solid — bread makes all the difference of the world when it comes to a great sandwich. Plenty of seating. HUGE portions. Con’s: Took a bit too long for four sandwiches to come out. They did lose our order so that might of had a substantial impact on the extensive wait time. Cheese Skimpers! Seriously, two pieces of cheese for a sandwich? Isn’t a cheesesteak supposed to carry two ingredients. cheese and steak. Shall we rename this to thy breadsteak? Funky stench. Building is older so feels a bit grimy. Expensive(this isn’t too bad considering the portions, and the amount of steak they do supply within the sandwich. but looking at about $ 10 a person for just one sandwich is a bit steep for this girl). Overall, it was tasty — I loved having the option of having a cheesechicken instead of steak. Also, ordered a small and I could only eat half. It was MASSIVE! They kindly wrapped the other half to go, which cleared through security with a smirk from the TSA lad at the Philly airport, and was consumed at ~30,000 feet in the air.
