Excellent atmosphere, great service and delicious food. Went there on date night and was blown away. I had crab risotto with broiled lobster tail and herb oil. One the best seafood dishes I’ve ever had. Server recommended an excellent Pinot noir as well. Can’t wait to go back.

Good oysters, nice ambiance. The Juglone was expensive for what it tasted like. It was good, just not $ 10 good. Also, the fact that the bar wasn’t flat was really throwing me off, and I almost spilled my drink a couple times. Probably a much better place to go on a date rather than alone. Lesson learned. Also, don’t go with a massive group — the place is small, with seating for maybe 30 – 40 people total, including the bar seating.

I started with the oyster chowder that was good but the oysters were a little off in texture. Next I had the scallops small plate which was the perfect size. Three perfectly cooked scallops on a bed of grilled radicchio which was a first for me. I was afraid that the tomato jelly would be too sweet but it wasn’t, it was just right with the sweet scallops. The pomme frites were served piping hot but a little over salted for my taste. My husband had the blackened grouper which was the fish of the day. He is a man of few words but he said«it’s good». He also thought the restaurant was better than Fraziers but I still like the cioppino at Fraziers.

Never go on Sunday bc that is the only day they do not get oysters directly from the airport. Unless u come here and are not getting oysters– try another night. Nevertheless– the oysters are wonderful(mostly Japanese or from New England). Best thing I had 1) clams and mussels dish. I think it’s meant as an apps but it’s an amazing entrée. The white wine sauce is outstanding 2) oysters are wonderful and fresh 3) specials of the night are usually a hit But the biggest let down was the homemade gnocchi for me– it was just bland and doughy. Go to the hill if u want some pasta — but this is a wonderful place to stop in for some seafood in a landlocked state. Other tips: Reservations recommended but the bar is open seating/outside. The place is kind of small– FYI.

Disappointed. Waitress was high. Couldn’t remember a thing. Had the Boston clam chowder and the Ribeye. The chowder was way over salted. They said they would take it off the bill, they did not. Old fashion was great. Ribeye was ok. Manager said waitress was new and bought us a round of drinks. Disappointing anniversary dinner. Bartender was the only redeeming thing on this night.

Oysters, service, ambiance have always been excellent. If you’re in the mood for the best oysters and selection in StL then this is your spot and they do have excellent pomme frittes as well!

This is a really nice place to relax and enjoy a beautiful sunny day. The service is courteous and attentive, and the steamed mussels and clams are delicious. I recommend the garlic beurre blanc if you can eat light for the remainder of the day(though my boyfriend preferred the Creole andouille sauce). Items on the menu here are a bit pricier than I am normally willing to shell out(get it??) for, but I left feeling satisfied and like the food and experience were worth it.

high expectations lead to disappointment? I wasn’t utterly disappointed but I did have some high expectations. the ambiance of the place was really nice and intimate. we had the option of outdoor and indoor seating, we opted for indoor because it was pretty warm but it was still warm inside because all the doors were open. we ordered the fish du jour which was the grouper for the night. it was just a little bit overcooked and dry for my liking. it came with two dry croquettes. wasn’t all that impressed. pomme frites are just pomme frites. nothing exciting. we also ordered the mussels and clams. I thought most of the mussels were undercooked and some clams were under and others were perfect. but what was really memorable was the broth… rich, creamy, enlightening really. we asked for more bread to dip in the broth… it took quite a while. lastly, we ordered all the raw oysters they had on menu so we can try everything. the variety was great, we really enjoyed two out of the five we tried. I’m no oyster connoisseur but I was a little disappointed that they didn’t have cocktail sauce and horseradish. instead, they had a mild apple vinegar type of dipping sauce which pretty much had no flavor. they have an open oyster bar concept so it was fun to watch them shuck the oysters before our very eyes. however, the shucker didn’t do the best shucking because there was decent amount oyster shell pieces and gritty-ness. the variety was nice but I prefer the oysters from Broadway oyster bar. the whole experience was pretty decent but I was NOT a fan of our waitress. we sat right in the middle of the bar so it made it easier to give our requests to other servers. but she would walk right past us, making no eye contact, never checking on us unless we waved her down, hardly a crack of a smile… meanwhile we see her flirting with her coworker and giving him more attention than the patrons. laetia was great though. friendly and engaging! they also had a pretty good variety of local beers.

First let me say, this would be 5 stars, but since the place is fairly pricey and I can’t eat there as often as I’d like… it loses a star… That being said I’ve been twice now and enjoyed both visits immensely. I sat at the bar both times and the weather was nice enough that doors were all open to the outside. The bar staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the various oysters and their flavors. I ordered a half dozen each visits and tried to mix them up. I honestly never realized that there was such a difference in flavors. They were all great though and seemed to be very fresh. It was also interesting watching the guy shuck them behind the bar, he’s almost on a stage with the oysters laid out on ice in front of him. Pretty cool to watch. As for the other food, I cannot say enough about the Oyster Chowder… it is truly amazing and was what confirmed for me that I would be back. For my main course I had the fish du jour which was a grouper and it was great. I will be heading back soon! If you don’t mind spending a bit for fresh seafood, great service and a pleasant«neighborhood type» atmosphere, then you will most likely enjoy this place. Raising it to Five stars. Been here a couple more times and for the quality and the service… Worth every penny! :-)

Myself and my wife had stopped in St Louis during our honeymoon and we have to admit, we knew nothing about St Louis and we did not know at all what to expect. Obviously this area is not downtown in the slightest but this is only where we stayed and we have left here with great memories. One of those memories is this place. We were advised by the guys we were staying with that here would be quite a nice place to eat. We took their advice and walked over and we loved it. We had been eating mainly burgers and heavy meats up until this point in our trip and having seafood of this standard was a real welcome break. I had Oysters(had to) and my wife had the Mussels and both of us really enjoyed our meals. I tried a couple of local beers too which again were thoroughly enjoyable. What made this visit overall was how well mannered and pleasant the 2 waiters were that kept coming over to chat to us. We are from Birmingham England ourselves and wanted to know a little more about St Louis and the waiter was happy to fill us in on all the important bits really(we hope we didn’t get him in any trouble as we were a bit chatty and kept dragging him away from serving unintentionally). We really enjoyed it here and as a result we are hoping to return to St Louis again at some point to check more of it out. We went to the Zoo on the advise of the waiter here as well and we weren’t disappointed with that either. Thanks guys, a great meal and a great stay.

Let me be open: I don’t do oysters. So this review will have no oyster stuff in it. BF went here for an early dinner around 5:30 on a Tuesday night. Besides a couple people at the bar we were the only ones there. Pretty view out the window. BF got the Paris Revisited and I got something with lemon, I don’t remember the name of it. My drink was delicious. I didn’t care for BF’s, but he liked it, so cheers. We ordered a few things to share. Gnocci du jour, the pomme frites(fries), Tandoor salmon, and pasta du jour. And we both said the same thing: we were underwhelmed. The gnocci was ok, not great and not bad, just there. The salmon was probably most disappointing. I was really looking forward to it after all the reviews, but the seasoning tasted exactly like bbq sauce. And I’m not the biggest fan of bbq sauce(I don’t hate it, just not my favorite thing). So it was like eating bbq salmon. Which might be awesome for someone else, but not for me. The couscous hushpuppies were really good! I could’ve eaten 10 of those! The pasta du jour was fettuccine noodles in a white sauce with lobster, shrimp, and vegetables. There was so much sauce. I’m not big on over saucing things. Too much oil, butter, sauce, etc is just wasteful calories, and not needed. Also it’s yuck. So we ate«around» the sauce. Vegetables and seafood was fine. We ended up with an inch of just sauce leftover in the bowl. … I guess to each his/her own, but we were kinda turned off by it. Water glass was empty for a while a couple times. Eh. No one’s perfect. I’ll let it slide. The fries: amazing. So good. Both of us devoured them. And I NEVER eat«junk food» like fries. I would come here just for fries and that lemon drink I had. Waitress was nice enough. Nothing bad to say or amazing to about her. Polite, around but not intrusive. Cute place. I really wanted to like this more. Maybe we’ll try it another time, that’d be ok with me. Although with Sasha’s a block away, probably not for a while. Another bottle of cab please!

These guys never fail to please. We’ve been there a number of times and live close by. Everything is good for whatever mood I have been in. The burger is outstanding, the fries are awesome. The Oyster Chowder is the best I’ve ever had and consistent time and again. It’s also very cool that they have a variety of oysters to choose from each time and they can vary from one trip to the next but they are always fresh and excellent. The staff is pretty knowledgeable on the different oysters and where they’re from, what they taste like, what kind of consistency they have. I’ve also had the veal shank with grits which is comfort food to the max. SOOooooo good. and the bartenders do a great job whether it’s a simple drink or one of their signature items. This should be on your«To go to» list. My only complaint: Why aren’t you open for lunch?

Every meal that I have at the demun oyster bar is a great experience-From the ambience, warmth, and fabulous staff, to the exceptional attention to every detail, with cuisine that is extremely fresh and delicious! The oyster stew has become one of my standards on every visit and the pasta with seafood is phenomenal! This restaurant and bar has become one of my favorites and gets regular visits… There’s no where in St. Louis where you can get fresher oysters or better seafood!!!

I wish this was my neighborhood bar and I don’t even eat oysters. It’s a combination of good vibe, small but good beer selection and delectable small plates. Last time there was a table in the corner, behind the bar, perfect for conversation and keeping an eye out for potential assassins. The Schlafly Extra Stout was a perfect winter’s night accompaniment to roasted vegetables and a small plate of gnocchi. The service is laid back, but attentive. In warmer weather the outdoor seating is nice, but makes it harder to be vigilant for né’er do wells and goons as there is only one wall to watch your back — unless you sit near the street corner, in which case all bets are off.

Great little seafood café with a superb patio(one of the best when the weather is nice.) The food favors(especially the Manhattan Clam Chowder) make this place a big winner. A solid wine list and friendly bar area make this a neighborhood gem. Best seats are often those right inside the large open windows or in great weather – at one of the handful of nice tables on Demun patio. Service can be good or spotty – depending on who you get. That is the one wild card about this great restaurant – we’ve had great service and spotty service. Overall, a unique and fun venue. After dinner, grab a drink at Sasha’s or Jimmy’s on the Park on the same block. Great little treasure of an area in St. Louis. Oysters are also a draw here, but the atmosphere is the reason to return. Prices a tad high for a café, but some dishes are well worth it.

I came here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to enjoy drinks with a friend outside. First off, the Oyster Bar is the perfect place to enjoy afternoon drinks. It’s right next to the park on a slow street and gets plenty of sunshine. If you want the fresh air but less sun, you can sit inside next to one of their open bay windows. Oyster Bar has quite the cocktail list and plenty of drink choices in general. I went with a lemon, ginger beer, and vodka drink that isn’t on the menu. It was amazing and perfect for the weather. I can’t forget the service! Our waiter was super nice and attentive but not too over bearing. I can’t wait to come back and try out the food!

I’m jealous of all the people that get to live in Demun and walk here. The décor could use some updating, OK maybe a lot, but it’s a very popular neighborhood spot. Stopped by here for brunch, and here’s what we ordered: Hang Towne Fry($ 11) — how can you say no to bacon, hash browns, eggs, AND fried oysters. This dish is huge, as in you should be sharing it with somebody else or feel a little guilty. Spinach Salad($ 8) — beets, goat cheese, spinach, vinaigrette; also great for sharing. Finally Mussels in a garlic beurre blanc broth($ 10) — Flavorful broth, lots ‘o mussels, and an opportunity to call more friends to have brunch because there are still leftovers. I’d come back to order cocktails, oysters, and most brunch dishes. Dinner looks a bit overpriced.
