Service is absolutely horrible and the food is disgusting. I get that diner food is different, this food is greasy, sloppily put together and to top that off, the restaurant is NOT clean. Our booth was so gross!

No stars. How can you mess up a grilled cheese and bacon ??? Greasiest fries I’ve ever tried. I couldn’t even stomach half of one. 7.99 for basically 4 slices of bread, a slice of cheese and 2 strips of bacon. BLT was the same with a barley ripe slice of tomato . Waste of money!

Not even worthy of a star. Diner food IS diner food but — «diner food» is also known as some of the best comfort food, quality and value America has to offer — it should be edible, acceptable, presentable, cost effective, service should be satisfactory, offer seating in order of customer’s arrival, advertise«specials» — e.g. corned beef and cabbage — AND have it available when they drag you in off the street. So, consider all of the above, slightly overpriced and an absolutely atrocious breakfast(unless you’re in the mood for toast with one butter and a coffee with untimely refills). The owner actually came out and sat with us in our booth where we clearly showed unacceptable and justifiable examples of our complaints. She had nothing to say except to agree, bow her head and tear up the bill.

My husband and I went there this morning because they have excellent coffee. We got there around 8:30– they weren’t super busy but there was a couple in front of us. Both parties waited for about 5 minutes while the cashier checked out a couple of guys. The cashier then seats the party in front of us. While this is happening a man comes up to pay for his meal. Instead of seating my husband and I since we’d been waiting the cashier begins to check out the man who had come to pay his bill. I understand being understaffed and running around but I don’t understand how the cashier doesn’t bother to say a thing to us about the longer than normal wait, especially when she chooses to attend to someone who had not been waiting as long as us. It will definitely be awhile before I attempt to come back again. The food isn’t that great to not be waited on appropriately.

Country style steak and gravy was delicious! My daughter had the turkey and dressing, she said it was really good as well. The mashed potatoes are made from real potatoes not instant, so I recommend them! I will definitely come back. 100% sanitary rating was comforting to see in this smaller town! Desserts looked inviting, I will have to try one of those next time! I recommend trying the diner.

We were in the area and decided we needed to try this place. On the outside as you are trying to park you can tell this place is kinda small. Once you walk in it is pretty much the size of a large camper. We were greeted pretty quickly and sat down. The waitress was super friendly and got our order in fairly quickly came around every once in awhile to check on us and refill our drinks. Now the menu was a slight disappointment. As a diner there wasn’t much on the menu for diner food. There was one burger you could choose from same for the hot dog everything else on the menu was a chicken sandwich and turkey Ruben or an open faced roast beef sandwich. The upside is that they had a written menu with a more southern food selection you could order from. Once we got our food, it left a lot to be desired, the burger was average small flavorless patty served with decent fries, and my fiancé got an open faced roast beef sandwich. The roast beef was served on white pieces of bread with a hefty serving of gravy on top, and a side of mac and cheese. To tell you the truth he only ate the roast beef which he said was ok even with all that gravy on top. He took one bite of the mac and cheese and did not eat it again he said«It tasted nothing like MAC or CHEESE» Would I try this this place maybe not. 3 stars for service and décor.

I can’t believe how many bad reviews this place has! First of all, this isn’t a gourmet restaurant. It’s a diner! Don’t go to a diner and then complain because it’s diner food! Ahem. Anyways, my husband and I just moved to Clayton, and we were curious about this place one evening, so we decided to try it. Our server was super sweet, prices were great, and they had so many side options I had a really hard time choosing just two. I ended up getting liver and onions(the best I’ve ever had), fried green tomatoes, and corn pudding. My husband got the chicken fried steak(also delicious), fried green tomatoes, and mashed potatoes with gravy. Both meals came with a dinner roll, and the food came to us in less than 10 minutes. It was SO much food, and our bill was under $ 20WITH the tip. We will be back.

The kids and I came here for the first time and were sat at a less than clean table. The kids ordered pancakes and I ordered a burger because nothing else on the menu sounded good. Most of the staff was sitting at the bar, a couple of them snacking and eating behind the bar. Tacky!!! The food came out and didn’t even LOOK good. My burger was completely bland, with zero flavor. It was what you’d expect at a school cafeteria… Gross. The kids pancakes were thick and soggy/undercooked. I wouldn’t say it was just s bad day for the diner but it seems this poor quality food is the norm. This will be our first and last visit :-/

Nothing to add but just to back up others, food lacks flavor but loaded with grease or oil, breakfast or lunch menu. Nothing seems fresh and butter can’t be found, so toast or grilled sandwiches are dripping with some kind of industrial food service oil. Service minimal

The food was decent enough, but that’s where it ends. I had to tell the waitress to get my food when it was sitting under the heat lamp for 5 minutes. She was too busy talking to the rest of the staff. Then another waitress was cleaning dirty menus right next to me and kept bumping my arm while I was trying to eat.

This is a nice«shiny» diner in the center of Clayton. They have the best BBQ sandwiches in town. With a little extra cole slaw and a red onion ring they are delicious. They also have turkey and dressing on Sundays. Not sure why Unilocal says that they are closed on Sunday, they are not. The service staff is prompt and friendly. It is very casual and good for kids, however it can be pretty noisy too for those same reasons. Sometimes the fries are changed and the sandwich rolls are different, so it is not always consistent in that regard, but it is always pretty good.

When I was moving South, all of my American fiends unanimously were warning me about generous deep fried goodness awaiting me here. Especially about famous Southern breakfast that wins anyone’s heart while clogging it’s vessels. Not like in the North we only chew on kale and drink beet and spinach juices, but our waffles pale in comparison with these huge mighty southern babies. Anyway Rockin Comet Diner is a bad Northern place lost in the bountiful southern land of waffles and chickens. Pancakes were pale and thin, sausage had seen better days, waffles were soggy and coffee was… well, coffee is bad everywhere here. The entire experience was one huge disappointment. Similar to one when you are six, and you are at Christmas party and suddenly see how Santa’s beard just unglued baring the drunken red face of your father. No legendary Southern breakfast here, kids. Keep driving down that highway if you want a better breakfast. Towards McDonalds.

Since you have to give a rating. I could not find something lower. I left Rockin Comet Diner 30 minutes ago and already heaved your mac and cheese. It had a funny taste like corn starch was not mixed properly but I digress. I left the diner at 7:30p, on Aug. 7, Thursday. So this is a very current review. First, we waited to be seated. Not one person looked at us. Second, our server was having a hard time putting info into the computer so our dinner sat on the ledge for 15 minutes. Third, I ordered cucumber which they were out of but the older lady who came to tell us, brought us a menu and that is how I got the mac and cheese. I told her we ordered the roll and corn muffin and got corn muffin only. She did not get us a roll she said tell your server. Fourth, While the food was up at the ledge, the two older boys were wrapping forks and knives. The older lady had to tell them three times to help serve the food. Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune was much more important. One of them even raised the volume on Jeopardy — could you believe it. All in all, the meat was overcooked and cold, the service was non existent. The owner better wise up or this diner will not have a following. Claudia R.

This evening we were cruising US70 without a clear idea about what we wanted. One party spotted the shiny exterior of the Rockin’ Comet Diner as we passed Clayton Corners shopping center. Contrary to standard practice for the crew I was with, we decided to give a new place a chance late at night. Though I am Generally, I am hesitant to review restaurants I arrive at within 30 minutes of opening or closing. Still, I believe my experience this evening warrants doing so. We pulled in the parking at 8:40PMET. The staff greeted us warmly. One member of our group noted the restaurant was due to close in 15 minutes. The hostess /greeter said this was no problem and to please dine with them. The menu is quite broad for a small restaurant; including several vegetables. In the end, I settled for a bacon cheese burger and collard greens. Other items ordered by our party included the chicken salad plate, chocolate crème pie, soda, and coffee. The burger was well prepared. The patty was good sized, though not as large as the very best restaurant burgers. Still it was a large burger, and I could not finish it in one siting without stuffing. I took some of it home. The other ingredients were fresh, and the sandwich acceptably assembled. I really enjoyed the burger. The collard greens were likewise very good. This was a strictly savory recipe; not sweet like many popular recipes. I am fine with both types of preparation and found this savory version very much to my liking. The other members of my party(one quite picky) praised the chicken salad, chocolate pie, and coffee quality. A note about the coffee. The first cup one of our party had was past its prime. They quickly brewed another pot. It was hot, had good strength, minimal bitterness, and excellent flavor. Two of our party had the coffee. The staff was friendly, the facility clean, and service good. We will definitely go there again.

Tried this again because my dad wanted to go here for lunch. The only was to describe the staff is «soulless.» The food was horrible. Got lunch special, hamburger steak, fries, collard greens. The hamburger was like show leather and the fries had been re-fried from the day before. Absolutely the worst meal I have had in a long time. If an option existed for a less than 1 star, I would give it.

I’ve eaten at this place numerous times and like the food. It’s not fancy, but good southern cooking in an old fashioned, shiny diner. They have 4 – 5 specails every day and a good selection of menu staples.

Rocking’ Comet Diner is a nice locally owned diner in Clayton serving mostly breakfast but does also serve sandwiches, burgers, southern style cooking. On this visit I had the $ 5.99 lunch special hamburger steak with onions and gravy and came with roll and 2 sides. Mac & cheese was good, everything else tasted bland and reminded me of high school cafeteria food. Wait staff was very attentive. Food C Staff A Décor B Location B Health Inspection Grade 98.0
