Awful at best. Food has no flavor. The gravy was watery and I’ve had better out of a can. Same with the biscuits. They are the pre cooked ones you buy at the store. Home fries completely devoid of seasoning.

The service was quick. I might tend to give a higher rating for being the only place we could get a table. Sills Café in Layton and Grannie Annie’s in Kaysville were both standing room only. The food was just okay. I got a 3-egg omelette and the wife got the french toast, which she said was fine but not amazing. I also ordered a side biscuit with gravy. The gravy was crusted over like it had been sitting for a bit before she brought it out. Anyway, not bad but not great. Not too helpful a rating I’m sorry to say. The bathroom was clean — always a bonus for me.

Breakfast: a fine place to get a good breakfast at a reasonable price. Fast, good, usually no waiting for a table.

Yucky food and bad customer service. Waitress took for ever to bring our drinks and they were wrong. Food comes and it’s not complete she left part of our food on another table and after 4 minutes she comes and gives it to us. My lettuce and tomatoes were rotten. I show it to the waitress and she didn’t seem to care much. Went to go pay and they asked how was your food told her less than mediocre and she didn’t even ask why. If you don’t care how it was why ask? The parking lot was just as dirty as the restaurant inside. This place is not the kind of dive with good food and great employees. Wouldn’t go back again

We usually enjoy coming here, today we were quite frankly frustrated. We waited for a booth to be cleaned up, as soon as it was cleaned a couple walked in behind us grabbed menu’s and went and sat in the booth that had just been cleaned for us. We decided to take a table rather than wait for another booth. Another family came in and was seated at a table across from us. The waitress took the order from the couple who took the booth we had been waiting for, then she took the order from the family at the other table. We sat there waiting and she didn’t come take our order. We ended up walking out with out even a glass of water after sitting for 20 minutes. That’s the first time we have had poor service like that. We were very disappointed.

This review is based only on service since we didn’t taste the food. Our first time here. We arrived at 10:20 am on a Saturday. It was slightly busy, we were seated in 5 minutes. Here it comes, it took 8 minutes for a waitress to come get our drink order, coffee for both of us, another 5 minute wait, ordered, 20 min…30 min…40 min… out the door we went. Not sure if we will return, service is 60−70% of the business.

Went in for breakfast. Water was set on the table and there were maggots in it! The waitresses took it back to the kitchen and another waitresses came out with another glass of water. She informed me that it was not maggots, it was something in the glass. I politely told her it definitely was maggots. She actually tried to argue with me. Needless to say we left. We didn’t order maggots on it water!!! HEALTHDEPARTMENTWASCALLED!

The food is so good at Star Café I asked my husband to take me there again today! I had the 3 egg bacon mushroom and cheese omelette with the crêpe and coffee. Everything was delicious!

This is a classic down home breakfast restaurant. My family decided to give this a try and we were very happy with the breakfasts we ordered. My son ordered the big pancake breakfast and he loved it. The pancakes were huge and there are four syrup flavors, which he loved. The food I ordered was really good and the country gravy was tasty. My wife ordered an omelet which she really enjoyed and it too was very big. The prices are fantastic as well. A lot of good food for a low price. I would have given 5 stars but the the hash browns were very plain. They needed seasoning or butter. I guess for those healthy conscious people they would be great. We added country gravy and they were great that way. I would definitely recommend the Star.

If you just stick to the basic breakfast items… egg, sausage, bacon, hash brown, and pancake or scones… then you cant go wrong with a decent meal at a very affordablr price. If you venture off or try to customize menu items, then good luck to you. Their sausage links are large compared to other places and it taste real good. Their scones are also fantastic. This is one of the few places that make scones the way I like it; crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and not too thick and heavy. Hash browns are average. Eggs are eggs. Bacon is average. So like I said, if you just want a basic average breakfast, cheap, sit down place to go, and not expecting gourmet, this is the place.

I’m generally not a fussy person and try to be as forgiving as possible(I get it, stuff happens), but wow, was that a terrible experience. The waiter was unable to understand the difference between the words«well done» and«rare done»(we repeated them back and forth to each other several times and he still didn’t get it right — English is not his first language). When the food finally came, it was nearly inedible — everything tasted dry, old and bland. It was very obvious that no one gave a hang about the customers or about giving fair value for the money. I don’t know what has happened there in the past year or so, as it used to be a pretty good diner, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone now.

This is a pretty good place. Decent menu at a decent price. When I want an american breakfast without an hour long wait for a table,(I’m talking to you, Sills café) come here. Some times service can be a bit slow, but I’ve never had any wait that’s too outrageous. There’s definitely room for improvement, but they do alright.

Might be under new ownership. My spouse received his food & was almost done b4 me & the boys got anything. Our meals came out in segments eggs & sausage, then French Toast, then scone. If it’s this bad next time we won’t return. You get a lot for a little, but things seem to have changed for the worse.

Things are going down hill at the Star Café. This use to be one of our go to spots for breakfast, probably not anymore. Our last visit was extremely disappointing, our waitress was horrible and the food was not good, if it weren’t for the decent scone I would have starved to death. The rest of the food was terrible and the waitress took forever to get it to us, when it came it was wrong but none of us wanted to wait another hour for them to fix it.

I like the place they have really good food, except there are only a few flaws that I would want to point out. Don’t order the country-home potatoes, because they are so dry… you will need a gallon on Catsup to get those suckers down! Also the other thing is that if you go here on the weekends for a nice breakfast with your family, you will have to worry about the noise level, it gets pretty hectic/loud. My favorite menu item is the Southern chicken fried steak smothered in Country gravy. I will tell you one interesting factor here is that I have never left this place hungry and I always have a to-go box. The food is worth every penny, very large portions. I would say to check it out, especially if you are looking for something to mix it up besides Denny’s and JB’s for American family breakfast.

Generous portions of(not very good) comfort food. Definitely favors quantity over quality. Very friendly service. Stick to the basics(pancakes, scones, chicken fried steak) and you’ll be OK. Try a special, and you’ll probably be disappointed.

This is a diner setup in the Clearfield area on State St. The exterior looked real oldie and ghetto. The interior was actually not too bad, clean and maybe a little last generation for me. I noticed the host was Chinese, then echo of Chinese words came out from the kitchen, and they got a page of Chinese food on their menu. I guess this place is a Chinese-American diner fusion of some sort… Everything was quite cheap, and portions were huge. I got their Philly Steak Special with grill potato, which was actually quite nice for side item. The sandwich however was a bit disappointing… There was not much meat inside and the bread smashed thin, not what I expect a Philly to be, perhaps a Chinese fusion style? One of us in the group got some Chicken Fried Steak and the portion looked huge, so perhaps I will stick to breakfast next time. I have mixed feeling about Star Café, food quality did not really stand out when compared with other diners nearby, but I suppose their low price justified the mediocre food?

I was actually surprised with the service and food at a place like Star Café. I was in town seeing my bf for the weekend and we went to dinner there. I saw the prices were a little lower than in Salt Lake City… being that it is a smaller city near Ogden. The waitress was very nice and friedly. It was dead inside so when she wasn’t helping us she was standing up front talking with the regulars. I got the chicken-fried steak. I’m from the deep south so I know a good one when I have it and I have to say it was really good! The sauted onions and potatoes were a little different than I expected. I thought they would be sliced thin, but there were on the thicker side. The potato soup was just ok, nothing special there. The broccoli side I ordered to have some veggies was pretty good and very lard. I expected a small bowl but instead I got a whole plate of steaming broccoli! Yay! After packing that away, I got a small strawberry crêpe with sweetened condensed milk inside and powered sugar, not bad. Was pretty good. All in all, I’d say this is a good place to stop off if you want a cheap meal and nothing too high end. I may avoid the soup, but the rest of it is on par with other places such as Village Inn or Denny’s, but the price is better(cheaper).
