The best Y in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County area. We use to live in Bermuda Run but have moved into Winston-Salem and still go to the Jerry Long YMCA in Clemmons.

If you live in the Winston-Salem area, this is the Y to join. Jerry Long has nearly everything, I don’t know where to start. Classes: all of the offerings you need. I especially enjoyed the BodyPump class. The only bad part is that they don’t make an allowance for being only a couple of minutes late. Gym: First thing that comes to mind is its cleanliness. I don’t think I have ever been to a gym that has virtually no dust or dirt on the machines. During my two-hour workouts, there is always someone wiping down machines and weights — from top to bottom and all around. Locker rooms: the locker rooms are clean enough, but could use a little extra love compared to the workout room. But, there are personal showers, a relaxing sauna, and a long make-up/hair station for after your shower. Sports: Racquetball, basketball, volleyball, you name it! This place is an athletes dream in the evening. it bustles with members of all ages playing their favorite sport in the evenings. I don’t know, however, if it is pick-up or organized. There is also a pool. Customer service: Top-notch! As a visiting member, the director, Julia, made me feel welcomed. Child care: This is dear to my heart. I will not work out any place where my child(ren) are unhappy. The child care workers were nurturing to both parent(s) and child(ren). They basically told me to give them whatever they need for my kids and to go and take my time and enjoy myself. My kids were happy upon pickup and didn’t want to leave. Some evenings, they will take the older kids out to the playground to burn some energy before bed. One thing stuck out, though, and it was a conversation with one of the women who worked there. A boy was playing around in a pink princess dress and my daughter pointed it out to me. I expected one of the women to say something negative(I always hear ridiculous stuff about gender in the south), but instead they were supportive of the kid and allowed him to navigate comfortably in his play space. Loved that! There is also a small farmer’s market outside on Wednesday, I think. Again, this is the best YMCA in the area!

This gym is one of the most well kept and clean facilities I’ve ever had a membership to. The employees are all very friendly, and everyone is always smiling! Good mix of equipment(brand new dumb bells!), 2 gyms, crossfit area, a pool and hot tub and 2 racquetball courts are also on site. Would definitely recommend this gym as a great place to get back in shape!

Well run, swimming, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, bball, racquetball, weights, and a good staff. More services than I will ever completely use, but I have been going for 5 years, and find it better than any gym I have used, and more expensive to match…

The Jerry Long Family YMCA(formerly the West Forsyth YMCA) is part of the Greater Winston Salem YMCA. What a wonderful place to get fit, learn new skills, meet new people, and become a better person. The staff is helpful and friendly and encouraging. People of all ages find activities to improve their health and have fun. I have lost 16 pounds since I joined 12 months ago. Working out 3 or 4 days a week is part of my weekly routine now.
