This hotel in Clemson, SC doesn’t look like it has been upgraded since the late 1980’s when it was built. The room furnishings are sparse at best, the aesthetics non-existent and the mirrors(including the one on the bedroom ceiling) could use a good cleaning — because I have no idea what was on them — but it wasn’t pretty. Choose someplace else.

I slept here and survived. But I wouldn’t go out of my way to stay here again. Some negatives: The hot water is not very hot — just barely warm enough for a marginally acceptable shower. My desk chair feels like it’s about to fall apart. There are funky musty smells in a lot of the hotel, though my room wasn’t too bad. The«free WiFi» is flaky. Quite a few people in my group complained about it. After trying it and failing to get a reliable connection, I connected through my phone. By the way, there are networks called«Comfort Inn» and«Confort Inn.» I wonder if the latter is operated by Ukraine teenage hackers. The free breakfast has no fresh fruit of any kind. Yes, it’s free. This hotel seems to cater to intercollegiate athletic teams whose coaches don’t impose curfews or require quiet, civilized behavior from their team members. Added a few days later: the toilet made flushing noises every few hours — not a great thing during the night. The flapper in the tank must have been a bit worn, so that water would leak slowly from the tank into the bowl. Maintenance was not this hotel’s strong suit. On the positive side: the personnel seem to be very nice. There’s a Sleep Inn next door and a Ramada Inn across the road. Check them out before firming up your travel plans.
