Talk about a cool dive bar. We stopped here totally on a whim after hitting some other spots in the Flats. I’ll admit, I don’t spend a lot of time in the Flat because, well, that area isn’t what it used to be. But I just might have to start because I really enjoyed my time at Carney’s. The place doesn’t look like much on the outside, but step inside and you’ll see an old school, comfy Irish bar. Its very dark and small, very reminiscent of a pub I frequented in college. The bartender could not have been more friendly. She chatted with us the whole time and gave us the remote so we could put on whatever channel we wanted to watch. She also gave us a big bowl of chips and pretzels to snack on, so old school and so awesome. I mean, no one gives out free bar snacks anymore. Drinks were strong, and I mean STRONG. I had to basically chase every sip of my vodka and club soda with those pretzels, but hey I’m not going to complain about an over pour. Especially when the prices were so cheap. Another cool quirk, they’re dog friendly. Yeah that’s right, dogs allowed. We found that out when two friendly mutts came barreling in and right over to us. I’m a huge dog person so I loved that, but I guess that might turn some people off. This is definitely a locals place with an everyone know everyone type of feel, but they were quick to welcome us newcomers. They have a small patio that’s great for hanging out in the summer. We’ll definitely come back soon.

Great location. Off in the cut. Feels family run and I like that. Pretty decent beer and whiskey selection. Always a random crowd. Youll get the professional drunks and the new, Downtown Yuppie types slumming it on their way to their row house after eating somewhere fancy. Weekends can get busy but the bartenders sling em pretty quick!

This place is kind of a secret for now, but that probably is not going to last long. Carney’s is slowly becoming the place to go when you cant deal with another night on W 25th St. Everyone who goes to this bar on a regular basis is there because its just a good time plain and simple. If you just want to go to a place with a few friends or even by yourself, Carney’s fits the bill for either. The Juke Box is awesome and it even has the internet search so no song is more than a click away. The outdoor patio is utilized in all seasons and more often than not, they will have a fire going in the fire pit outside. If you are looking for a place to chill out or start or end the night, Carney’s is a great place to go.

It’s a great place to stop when you’re riding your bike up the hill and get get thirsty. Very clean, long, and narrow. Great service during the day with a very neighborhood-y feel. Potential good hiding place if you’re playing hide and seek from your significant other.

What isn’t to love about this bar??? A friend that lives near here introduced us to Carney’s a few years ago. When you walk in the owner’s dog Bill might scare the snot out of you with his vicious barking but he is a real sweetheart once you are inside. The clientele is a unique hodgepodge of locals and it could be a quiet night or a wild one and you won’t know until you are inside!

I dropped by Carney’s late one weekday afternoon when hurricane Sandy was blowing through. It was too early for business, so I was the only customer. I had a great time talking to John the bartender. He had a lot of interesting things to say about the neighborhood, the bar, and Cleveland history. The shots of Irish whiskey weren’t bad either. I was glad I stopped in.

Previously I’d only hit up Carney’s after the Malachi run. After that, it’s a packed-sweaty mess so it was nice to stop by when I wasn’t wearing running gear. Carney’s is a nice quiet little spot at the top of the hill in the flats. It’s been remodeled and has a really clean, welcoming feel. The staff was helpful, there were pretzels on the bar and I may just have to check out the patio when it’s a little warmer. Probably my favorite/least favorite thing about the bar was Billy the dog. Billy was an awesome bully mix and so sweet! At the same time, he barked at everyone that came in… c’mon Billy… don’t scare people away! So if you’re okay with getting past Billy’s initial protective bark, Carney’s is a welcome reprieve.

This is a great bar where you can get down to drinking and enjoy yourself. If you are like me and like going to the bar by yourself, this is probably a great place to get that done. I am mad it took me this long to finally go here. It is a nice place that is off the beaten path.

Cool little bar in the Flats with a nice big patio. This bar was recently sold and the new owner renovated the place.
