I am only giving this place a one star rating because the store itself has a huge amount of merchandise that if one were able and alliwed to browse and shop through would make it a fantastic Army surplus store although they have completely overpriced merchandise. My most recent and last experience shopping here took place in January of 2015. I will never step foot in or patronize this buisness establishment again and i am giving the same advice to anybody that is thinking of going there to shop or purchace anything at all. The stores employees /sales staff are the rudest and worst store/sales employees I have ever encountered at any buisness establishment in my life. There was a cranky, grumpy old man a person who i would assume is the owner or the stores manager that sat in a chair in the front corner of the store by the check out counter that was one of the most completly unprofessional, unfriendly store owners or managers of a place of buisness that i have ever been in. He was snide, rude, completely unhelpful and barked out incredulous rules , statements and of restrictions for the browsing, looking and shopping of merchandise in said establishment Half the store/shop closed off. The aisles were roped and quardened and closed off with no ryme or reason. , the store is not set up like a normal store, nor would one expect it to be, there are hundreds maybe thousands of different manufacturers, name brands, and sizes, material, and types of shirts, pants, jackets, hats, shoes, work clothing, and military and so much variety of new, used military surplus merchandise stacked to the ceiling like a hoarding house. it is pickers type, storage warehouse, garage sale, browsing store and meant to be explored because the customer cannot see everything due to most all of the clothing and merchandise being in piles ontop of piles, and unsorted. Upon Finding a item i might be interested in looking and looking for my size, one cannnot find another like it because the items are not sorted organized and sized. Seeing a jacket i was interested in hanging at the end of a aisle in the middle of the store 2 feet away from where the aisle was roped off I was told you. Cant go back there? The jacket was a 3X Xl and i asked the employee if they had a ExLarge and was told oh i dont know, maybe we might have one in storage and Are you really serious about purchasing said jacket? Wtf? I found a full cotton work suit that was right in the middle of the rope of that closed off aisle area the pants part of the suit was half in the closed section and the top off the work suit was in the allowable shopping veiwing section on the other side of thr rope. It was my size XL made in the USA. Which i like to look for and find but there was no price tag on this itrm. I asked the employee who was right behind me breathing down my neck how much the price was? Oh you have to take it up to the counter i was told, so i go up to the counter where there was nobody at to begin with and then proceed to ask the rude old man that was sitting down in the corner in front of the counter what the price of the cotton work suit was and he asks me why i want this work suit and did i take the price tag off? and proceeds to then show me a little label on the item that says the cotton work suit is fire prooff and did i know how much a pair of pants made from this so called fire retardant cotton material costs? I said i didnt know and just wanted to know what the cost of this thin blue work suit was. He then asks me why am i asking him? I said well you are up here in front of the counter and was told i could find out the price at the counter, and that i thought he was the owner or manager and he says what makes me think he is the owner? he just is in the front of the store to help people. He then tells me that a pair of pants like this costs would cost $ 200.00 and what do i think the work suit would cost? What would i pay for the worksuit what do i think its worth? And that i shouldnt be looking at buying a worksuit made out of this fire retardant cotton material Now im really like WTF is wrong with this guy and people?. buliding and store is really to small to adequately house and display organize the merchandise. It is a disasterous, unorganized and disheveled mess. I shopped this store quite a few times a good 20 and plus years ago and it was basically the same experience, but the whole store and its aisles were open to browse and one was allowed to look through the merchandise without being asked what one was looking for, or wasnt told you cant look over there in the middle of a random aisle or you cant go any further down a aisle because it was closed off randomly in the middle of pscs of clothing and that was in between a roped off area. The sales staff were helpful and didn’t hover over you and harrass you like you were in a jewelry store.

I totally agree with KCF above. Over the past 20+ years I’ve only purchased a few items from them that only cost several Dollars etc, because it was convenient, but would never consider spending big money there ! From the moment you walk in they watch you as you walk up and down the aisles, as if you’re wearing a huge trench coat; ready to stuff it with a fortune’s worth of items. Don’t even DARE crossing the invisible lines at the end of the aisles. You’re quickly advised that that’s for employees only, etc. Besides everything there seems dusty, old and usually WAY over priced ! Unless you need it NOW you’re better off buying on line via ‘Sportsman’s Guide’, «Cheaper Than Dirt’ or ‘www.rddusa.com’ etc ! I once tried on a pair of what seemed like not 2nds but Third rate military boots there. Parts were missing, the leather was bad and they looked like they were sewn together in the DARK. Galco is definitely one of those places you go to only to see and feel an item to get an idea; but buy elsewhere !

I have been here twice. Once about a year ago, and just again recently. I am very tempted to go back a third time to properly document the numerous ways that this place is completely terrible. I have some strange hobbies, that sometimes require military surplus items. In general these items are well priced and tend to be much more durable then things found in big box stores. On this particular day, I was looking for a very particular ammo belt and a pair of boots. I happen to be alone, because my girlfriend had no desire to go back after last time. Why did I venture back to visit the smug cantankerous asshats at this store? Well, I needed the gear and I try to support local business when I can and a little instant gratification doesn’t hurt either. Alright, well when I came in, I describe the item to the clerk the best I could. I was looking for an ammo belt in khaki. He asked if it was new or a collectors item. The ones I had seen online looked new so I told him what I believed it was new but I wasn’t sure. During this time, he rolled his eyes no less the three times. Then he found what he believed what I wanted and without me inspecting it, placed in at the cashier who asked me for a credit card. I then told him this wasn’t what I wanted(it was green) and he said, this was the only color they came in. I said I was pretty sure I saw tan ones online so I was pretty sure they existed. He told me again no, only green and that you«never know what you are getting online». This was all done in a «why the hell are you bothering my store with your sales, buy it and get the hell out» tone and numerous condescending eye roles. This was the same treatment we had last year. But maybe I am the jerk for considering a 90 dollar purchase for more then two seconds. I handed it back and they asked me what else I wanted to buy. I said well, while I am here I need some boots, at that point the hobbit behind the counter started telling me again about why I was wrong about what I wanted to buy. At this point, I said I had enough rudeness for the day, and I was taking my business elsewhere and walked out of the store. Maybe it was my fault for not heeding the«limited browsing» signs or whatever that means. To the owners of this store, in case you didn’t notice, we live in a global marketplace with two day shipping. If you can’t give your customers a good retail experience, we will gladly use the app on our phone and take a little profit from your bottom line. If you treat us well, we will be loyal and more often then not discover things we didn’t think we needed(that more profits for you in case you missed that). By the way, I found the belt on ebay in tan, for 45 dollars which was 40 dollars less then yours. I guess not having to deal with your staff may be worth a few days wait.
