A damn hidden gem in Old Brooklyn: Gelato that is made right in the back of the store Background: There’s some unique rotating flavors like Queso(yes, cheese-flavored for the gringos), pistachio, tiramasu(not sure how they pull that off), dolce, about 20 flavors available at time. The price points are quite reasonable too — you can get good 2 – 3 scoop portions for $ 4. A single scoop is just $ 2.50. Tasty gelato. Don’t expect organic mecchanio cherries from Michigan, but just the classic ones from a can, that’s good enough for me. Note, the place is tiny and only offers enough seating for 3 – 4 total and the scenery of the empty lot(which is convenient for parking) across the street and a downtrodden road isn’t scenic. Lastly, this is just a quick(and hilly) ride(just cut through Valley Road from Jennings) from the beginning of the Towpath Trail and a great reward for finishing your run/bike there. Athough not exactly competition,(this is gelato) Honey Hut: your competition is here. Now, you don’t have just one good reason for dairy or non-dairy iced flavored desserts in Old Brooklyn, you now have 2.

Went back for a second time. The place had air this time. The gelato was just as good as the first time. There was a different server this time and she let me taste test one of the flavors I was debating, pistachio. Didn’t care that much for the nut one and got the peanut butter then a scoop of the chocolate brownie. Both were wonderful. I’m diffenately going back again.

Owner is from Italy. They make their gelato on site. Over 200 different flavors on their website. Try this place out if you are in old Brooklyn. I had pistachio, passion fruit, and banana dolce latte. All very tasty. The gelato reminded me of my time in Florence and tasted just as good. This would have given honey hut a run for its money when i was growing up in this neighborhood. Tattoo place next door if you want to get your tat on then soothe your new wounds with gelato.
