Close to 7 years ago I was introduced to La Cav. It was really my introduction to Cleveland’s nightlife. Throughout the years I’ve been here with friends, dates, ex’s, you name it. La Cav keeps me from being bored — it must be part of it’s charm. I could ALWAYS go back for more. It’s dimly lit and underground. It’s sexy and swanky and offers a wide selection of wines and beers.(They have a pretty handsome selection to choose from in their beer fridge.) The expert bartenders make great Manhattans. It’s not loud — which promises for a great atmosphere to carry on your most intimate conversations! I’m probably stopping in here once every three months. I came for a gin tasting most recently. The time before I was there to ring in the New Year. They decorated and made the evening feel special by offering champagne and party favors. The best thing about this place is you can dress up or dress down. You can go for an intimate evening or you can go for a casual drink with a buddy. You’re never out of place. You always seem to fit right into the crowd. And there is always some new special drink to try or an old stand-by that’s going to be waiting for you.

At first I was kind of annoyed that it took me forever to find the damn entrance to this place, so I looked like a goof walking back and forth on the block looking for the doors. Also I felt super old when I did finally walk in because there were only three or four candles lighting up the inside so I couldn’t see anything. However, I really enjoyed my evening here with several friends. They were playing the old movie Godzilla vs. Megalon movie on one of the walls and it was awesome. I had a lovely Chianti wine(two glasses actually) and my friend and I split a Beer Board. It was alright, but there wasn’t enough salami with the cheeses. I’m sure we’ll be back.

I can’t tell you the last time I was in a bar and felt this relaxed. The wine cave was obviously cave like, but not the wet, musty kind of cave. It was more the super dark and cozy warm cave. We tried three wines and all were excellent and affordable. I don’t think I saw a glass of wine for more than $ 10 on the menu. The clientele is mostly hipsters, so if you don’t like hipsters… Come here anyway cause you will barely be able to see them.

Our friend that lives in Coventry suggested my wife and I go to this awesome wine bar. So we all walked over and arrived at 4:41pm knowing we were a little early since 5:00pm is the official opening time. We sat at the bar and we were just going to wait until 5:00 before getting a drink. The bartender got shitty with us and said«we’re not open yet, this is my time and you’re here really early». I didn’t know 19 minutes was really early. I didn’t believe what I heard from this guy and said sorry what was that. He says«this is my time to setup, come back at 5:00». He was acting like little baby. So we left and will never return.

I would give the experience, atmosphere, cheese board and wine a solid five stars. BUT… the service was lackluster, thus demoting the overall rating to three stars. This place was not crowded when my roommate and I arrived, however it took quite some time for us to be noticed by one of only two bartenders working this night. We ordered the Cheese Lover’s Board and a bottle of Riesling to start. When the gentleman brought us our cheese board, he did not bother to identify the cheeses for us(they were also not listed on the menu), so we were left guessing. This cheese board was the , though! I could honestly live off of it. We guzzled three bottles of Riesling that night, and each time we went back to the bar for another there was quite a wait. Once we had a sufficient amount of wine pumping through our veins, it was time to go. We went to the bar to cash out, again waiting for much longer than we would have like(it wasn’t even that crowded), and then the gentlemen didn’t even ask if we wanted to split the check, he just proceeded to charge everything to one card. We didn’t even have a chance to look at the damage before he charged the card. This was honestly very annoying. Overall, a great hidden gem, with a superstar cheese board. I’ll be back, but I’m hoping for better service next time around.

La Cave du Vin, tucked beneath the busy streets of Coventry Village, is a unique bar experience fit for any laid-back Saturday night. Descending into La Cave means trading in the noise of everyday life for a more softened climate. Not only is the bar generally less noisy than surrounding options(the playlist varies based on which bartender is curating the tunes), because the bar is underground, there is a zero chance of salvaging any cellphone service. A crazy notion for some, but for most, the perfect excuse to engage in boozy conversation with the company they brought along. Speaking of the booze, La Cave offers far more than good wine. This is the best bar on the east side if you’re looking for a well-crafted manhattan or a super-specific craft beer you’ve been meaning to try. Whatever you’re drinking, it will pair fantastically with the«cheese lovers» cheese board or the house-made hummus. This weekend, find two seats at La Cave du Vin and enjoy a Coventry staple that, for 20 years, has done its own thing and done it well. — Alex Ashbrook

Great place, Great atmosphere, a welcome alternative to loud Coventry bars. Occasionally the place becomes lousy with fedora-wearing, libertarian, college sophomores pretending that 4 months of legal drinking has awarded them an impressive pallet for consuming the finest of craft IPA’s, but for the most part, the crowd is often more favorable than that of the other bars in the area. Cougars sometimes lurk here, if you’re into that. The drink selection is impressive, most impressive.

Really lovely atmosphere. In most situations, I would love this place. But apparently scruffy college kids aren’t welcome. We were given angry looks for almost an hour, and then when we left, a bartender literally ran down the street to accuse us of stealing. I’m not exactly sure how one steals from a wine bar, but this guy was pretty sure we had done it. Ruined our night, frankly. In a street full of fantastic options, this is one spot I’ll be avoiding in the future.

When I lived in little Italy I routinely passed up the bars and restaurants there at the base of the hill to walk the extra mile in order to enjoy the drinks, conversation, and atmosphere of La Cave Du Von(The Wine Cave) This bar has by far the best selection of wine and beer in the Cleveland area. The service is fantastic. The atmosphere of this small basement bar is unique and amazing. They also offer bottled beers to go so the party does not have to end at closing time. They do offer a very limited selection of food, such as cheese plates, but I would definitely recommend eating before coming downstairs.

This is one of the coolest bars in Ctown. I’ve been here an absurd amount of times over the years(I’ve been coming here so long, I remember when they used to allow smoking). The vibe is really laid back and the staff is knowledgeable and efficient. They have a great wine list, a phenomenal beer selection, and they always have something interesting on draft. Rumor has it that they are now developing a cocktail list too. If you like drinking(and who doesn’t???), go to Cave now.

Great little gem with just the Perfect ambiance for a trendy wine bar/lounge. I loved the dark wine cellar with 2 distinct rooms, one more loungy and the other a bustling bar with tall tables. Extensive beer, cocktail list and wine list. A Small snack menu offering makes it great stop for before or after dinner. The bartender is busy but friendly. Great chill out spot in Coventry!

One of my favorite hidden gems in Cleveland. Great ambiance, great selection of drinks(including their Wall of Beer!) And definitely a good place for a date too. They have a small selection of food, but the cheese board doesn’t disappoint.

I love this place! It was quaint and cozy(not an easy task when it is snowing outside like it was when I went). They over a huge selection of wines(and beers if you aren’t into wine) and locally inspired cheese and meat trays that you can order from. It is a great place to hang out with friends or a great start or end to a romantic night out. I’m glad we were with some locals who frequent here a lot because we never would have seen it when we were walking by. It is a little hidden, having to go downstairs and around a corner before you see the entrance of the bar. It was well worth it! I can’t wait until I am in town again because I will definitely be back!

From what I remember this place was great. Came on a Sunday for a date right when they opened. We got a bottle, and 2 glasses and the brie and bleu cheese plate. The 2 wine selections we got(don’t remember what they were exactly, one as a fruit forward dry white and the other a valpolicella ripasso) were great. The cheese plate was pretty good, it came with crostini, water crackers, marinated figs, dried fruit, and dark chocolate. I wish they had more food options, but not a huge deal. The ambiance was great, it’s like a classy dive bar if that makes any sense. It definitely has a more laid back casual feel but you can also show up in heels and you wouldn’t be out of place. It reminds me of some of the below ground old jazz clubs in NYC. They have a good selection of wines and a full bar plenty of seating, proper glassware(which I’m a huge freak about), and knowledgeable bartenders. I’m looking forward to visiting again maybe on a more popular night to get a better idea of the crowd. Definitely a potential 5-star.

Great basement bar with some great craft bottles to boot. About 8 beers on tap and 4 fridges full of beer. Nice of them to give tasters out for a dollar per each.

Can’t believe I never written a review for this place. La Cav Du Vin or «Wine Cave» is easily one of my favorite spots on the east side //Cleveland Heights area. It was the first place I fell in love with when I moved here from California. You typically walk down these steps where it smelled like piss(I’m confident it’s not like that now) and B Side lounge is blasting their music, but once you open this heavy ass door, you have this reaction like«WTF» where was this place hiding ? The place itself is pretty sweet. One of the first things you notice is the atmosphere and the lack of lighting, but it adds to the feel of the place. It’s dim, it’s charming, it’s romantic, it’s everything an adult would want a chill place to be. The second thing I notice is the 4 doors or wall of refrigerated beer. They have all kinds, which is a little overwhelming for your first time, but go there enough and you waste no time picking out some of your favorites. Mine is the Hitachino Nest Beer(White Ale) aka«The Owl» beer. If beer is not your thing, Wine Cave also has a great selection of wines and liquors. The food here is also underrated. I think their charcuterie and cheese board is a solid choice. Not sure why La Cav Du Vin is ever considered pretentious. Yeah, they won’t allow you to pour your own drink, but it’s a comfortable place for intellects, students, hipsters, non-hipsters, classical musicians, and people to hang out and enjoy a drink! As long as the kids are waiting for their parents to pick them up outside, I’m happy.

Megan is the coolest bartender here, awesome personality, great tats and very courteous. They have wifi upon request. The place has a wine cellar atmosphere, dark, laid back, plethora of beers, wines and liquors. Last time I was here«The Goonies» was playing on the projector screen. Oh ya, theres always a movie playing on the projector screen. Pretty cool. If you have a date, this is a secluded place to creep her out fellas, lol, seriously though creep her out. It’s in the basement and has a whole wall turned cooler with tons of different stouts, ales, wheats, IPAs, wines and whatever else your palate is salivating for. Its the place to kick back on Coventry Rd. shekitout!!!
