Protip to Cleveland: People are much more likely to go to a park if there’s programming(whether sporadic or more formalized like this here, organized by the Downtown Cleveland Alliance) and if there’s other people around that don’t scare them. Held monthly in the summer months at Perk Park(next to where Walnut’s Wednesdays are held) from 5:00−8, the pop-up party gives the chance to have an informal outdoor happy hour and the chance to(legally) drink in a public park. There’s live entertainment in the background(June had DJ Kishka, holler). There weren’t any kids at the June one that I went to, but I was told May’s had a few families and it’s open to kids. The park is beautiful with clear sightlines, permanent 4 top tables, the traditional park bench and gently rolling mounds of grass. One drawback: there’s no bicycle parking here. :( Along with a couple food trucks, there was a table of Summer shandy, hard iced tea, and miller lite for below-happy hour prices($ 3 for 16oz cans). Great opportunity to spend a summer night, people watch, hang out with your pooch, a book, and perhaps meet your co-workers, friends, or neighbors living downtown. One step forward Cleveland.
