I hosted a pierogi buffet sort of thing for a friend who is moving to another state. A very Cleveland goodbye. After checking out Unilocal reviews of various places to get pierogies around CLE, it sounded like Rudy’s might be my best bet as I wanted several types/flavors of pierogi, and they had a bunch listed on their website. We stopped at Rudy’s around 11am on a Saturday, and had no problem picking up 4 dozen pierogies(potato and onion, potato and cheddar, mushroom and onion, and potato, bacon and cheese). We also picked up some apricot kolaczki’s and a fritter type thing. For everything, I paid $ 28 or $ 29. A dozen pierogies cost about $ 6/dozen. After seeing several places charging $ 10/dozen or $ 5 or $ 6 for half a dozen, I was relieved to find affordable pierogies. Everything we purchased was delicious, and I will definitely stop at Rudy’s again for kolaczki’s, strudels, rolls, pierogies, etc. My only slight frustrations were that they didn’t have as many types of pierogies available as were listed on the website. Maybe they were already sold by the time I arrived. Also, there were no indicators on the 4 bags of pierogies as to what kind they were. they had different color twisty ties at the top, but no notation as to what each color twisty tie represented flavor-wise. that would have been helpful as I was serving a vegetarian and didn’t want that person to end up with bacon/potato/cheese pierogies. In the end, I tested one pierogi from each bag to figure out the flavor, which isn’t exactly a hardship. :) Closed on Sundays and Mondays.

The paczkis were awesome but the order was not ready and I waited for an hour in line after a 12hr night shift

Friendly staff, good pastries, polka, polka, polka. Poppy seed roll/strudel was tasty, as were the prune kolachkies, but the dough to filling ratio was a bit high for me. Will have to try their pierogies next time I’m in the area.

We LOVE Rudy’s for their amazing perogies! We will come back time and time again! Only one disappointment, we went Good Friday to grab some perogies for Easter Sunday, and were turned away due to the fact they ran out. Yes, next time we will place an order, and will always return to Rudy’s! Just kinda a bummer when we waited in line for quite some time to be turned away. Our Easter table was missing those delicious perogies! Yum!

Very disappointed. Went to Rudy’s today for paczki at 11:00 stood in the cold and in line for 55minute. Then a baker came out to tell us that they out of most everything and they were closing for 2 hrs to caught up. But she wasn’t sure how much they could make. Running short on ingredients. Next year going to place an order ahead of time.

Yum, yum, yum! Worth the drive no matter where you live in northeast Ohio. The best brownies I have ever had, delicious cakes and all sorts of other goodies… they even sell authentic Polish-style pierogis. You will not be disappointed with this bakery.

We went on Fat Tuesday in the afternoon and bought the last 2 paczki in the place. We live about 1 ½ hours away and found Rudy’s on Unilocal,so glad we did! I had never had a paczki before, loved the raspbery filling, but thought the dough part a little dry. We also purchased a cherry strudel, it was AMAZING! Customer service was fantastic, you could tell these folks were tired, but still super friendly and helpful. If we are ever up this way again, we will be bringing home some more strudel!

Went today to try my first paczki after friends recommended it. They still had a few left the day after Mardi Gras. While there I bought some hot cross buns. Both were excellent… the paczki not too sweet and heavy or greasy like some I’d seen, the raspberry filling not overwhelming. The hot cross buns were packed with raisins and flavor and not dry. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, not like a commercial bakery. I was skeptical, now I’m a believer. Will go back for more before I leave town.

Sitting sideways to Ridge Road, Rudy’s Shop is easy to pass by. But if you like Eastern European bakery at prices not inflated by trend or new owners it is well worth looking for Rudy’s. It is far more than the strudel shop that the name suggests. All the usual old style Cleveland bakery is sold along with prepared foods. This is not the place where you must splurge on one cup cake. Prices are appropriate for an unpretentious business. You can buy what ever strikes your fancy. For example stuffed cabbage is priced at $ 1.50 each, kolachkis at $ 3.49 a dozen, a large poppy seed roll at $ 7.99. I happen to hate almond flavoring and the poppy seed rolls here use it so that makes me unhappy because otherwise they rival any other. This is one more Cleveland shop with which your great grannie would have identified. Despite the changes in other cities our city has the sense to keep some of its past as it cautiously welcomes the new. Other cities have torn down and rebuilt to become all of one era. Lucky us we kept Victorian architecture, the theaters of Playhouse Square, and the unique culture of our families.

I have been visiting Rudy’s for over 15 years and it it consistent in their offering and always friendly and happy to chat a bit. I only buy my potato and cheese perogies here. They are flavorful and authentic.(Is there any other way?) A remarkable little slice of eastern European flare in the midst of a rather dullish portion of town. I am a commited patron, I think you will be also.

Colozza’s Bakery was closed and I was kinda bummed, but then I saw this place hidden on the road. Okay its not that hidden — it’s a large building, but the store front doesn’t face the main road and all you can see is their very low-key street sign. I took home a slide of carrot cake and a baklava. I had carrot cake in England where I met my wife and we’ve been trying to find a place that makes it as well. These folks were close. The icing was a bit off but the cake itself was fresh. Their options are less than Colozza but it’s a good alternative.
