I was visiting from out of town and getting my nails done next door for an event that evening and decided to pop in to the salon to see if anyone was free to blow out and style my hair. There was a gal available, Codie who is young, vivacious and full of great hair advice. She is very Jersey and super sweet and gave me some great advice for my daughter while she washed and blew out my hair. She didn’t take much time which was great and the style looked great and lasted all day and into the night for the event. It really looked terrific and it was very reasonably priced. The also sell a nice line of makeup and I bought an eyeliner that I love. I will definitely pop in again! No appointment necessary!

I’ve been getting my cuts here for three plus years on a monthly basis, and my picky daughters for almost as long. Never knew they had a male employee and have had nothing but a positive experience. Yeah we can find more posh stylists in the city, but AG is a perfect local salon…

I am fairly new to NJ and had to find another salon. After 3 years and many disappointments at several places, I finally found what I was looking for and needed. I have had wonderful experiences at Avant guard. Everyone is friendly and eager to please. Latife cuts and perms’ my hair exactly the way I ask it be done, so I’m not disappointed. Looking forward to my next trim. They are 5 stars for me.

This salon is relatively new, maybe a year or so. It’s really nice on the inside but don’t let that fool you. My first time here my hair was cut by the owner. The haircut was fine, I guess, but I told her I was going to a wedding that day so she did a little styling. Which consisted of making my hair ultra flat and cling to my face all night. It wasn’t pretty. But I gave them another chance, which I soon regretted. This time my hair was cut by a guy who looked like he had AIDS. He was super skinny, like gross unhealthy skinny. His skin was gray and ashy. And his breath really smelled, but I don’t think that had anything to do with having AIDS. He talked me out of cutting my hair short like I wanted and he burned my head while he was drying my hair. This place was a disappointment both times I went, so I won’t be going back.
