A group of us visited Goat Lady Dairy for a dinner on the farm night. We had a great time. We brought a few bottles of wine, got a short tour of the farm from the owners(saw goats, chickens, and rows of greens that were being grown). Being vegetarian, it’s sometimes challenging to join friends for these types of outings, but the chef created a delicious veggie meal to accommodate my needs. The crowd that attended the dinner on the farm was much older than my wife and our friends, but overall the food was very good, the cheeses were yummy and the chef and owners were friendly and accommodating. We’d consider going back for another dinner on the farm sometime down the road.

It’s a pretty place, but not a true«goat dairy» in the sense that they milk their goats and make the cheese. This is more of a wedding/event showplace. Also, you should know that you can NOT buy their cheese there.

So I’ve tried almost every cheese EF carries from this amazing little goat farm, but the one I had last night has inspired me to write them up, at last. Labeled Old Liberty, it was stinky and tart to start — very animal undertones — and then, no joke, chocolate hits my tongue. What?! Insane. Fascinating. Nom. They make some amazing Chevre. And the smoked round that I’ve only had once was pretty awesome. They do tours of the farm, host dinners, and supply some of the best locally made cheese to one Charlotte cheese counter that I know of(are there more?) and that’s South Park’s Earth Fare. You can even rent out space for parties or weddings, tho it is a bit of a drive. I plan on making it out here this summer for good times and AMAZING cheese. Hooray for the Goat Lady!
