I’ve been trying(not hard, but trying) to eat better as of late. On nights when I smash out, this Checkers has started to be one of the joints that satiates my hunger. While I’ve never been a huge fan of their fries, there aren’t exactly bad either. I just find that they NEED ketchup with them. Fries that I love do not require ketchup; you know, like the fries from Halo, Wendy’s and McDonald’s. Those are the type of fries you can pound down your gullet on the car ride home. Maybe it’s better this way, because I sometimes order two fries when they’re fantastic — one for the car ride home, and the other at home with ketchup. Either way, the burgers and chicken sandwiches here are stellar. I love red onion on my burgers, and they give them to me. The cheese is good, the meat is stupendous, and the veggies are all crisp and fresh. Also, the night manager(I typically get there sometime after 11:15) is so nice. She is great at upselling, and doesn’t do it in a heavy-handed way. Would I pick Checker’s as my first burger option? No. It wouldn’t even be in my top 3 on a regular day; but, when it’s closing in on midnight or later, and I want a burger that doesn’t suck(yes, I’m talking to you McDonald’s & Burger King), and I’m tired of Wendy’s, this is my joint.
