There’s a picnic area in what appears to be a dog park. In any case there was a group of people with about six dogs, one of which – a large, slobbering St. Bernard – sauntered toward my wife and I, who were attempting to enjoy an outdoor meal on our anniversary. Impending doom crept up in our guts as the dog invaded our space, drooling all over my thigh while sniffing at our Mya’s fried chicken. Its owner, a very uninterested and slow woman, eventually made it over to our location to finally utter a flat, disingenuous apology and dragged it away. She didn’t bother to apologize the second time it traversed the seventy yards between her and the doggless couple trying to enjoy a meal unmolested.

Another great park tucked into a Columbus neighborhood. You can enter at several points; there is a parking lot with portapotties, and a playground. I was there to access the river trail, trying to get my bike ride in. Easy access, well-kept, and beautiful, this park is what every neighborhood deserves. We are lucky to have a good park system in Columbus, and I try to take full advantage of the connecting trails. Paths are in good shape, though not great– some cracks and bumps. You’ll see people jogging and walking. There are side paths and places to sit, read, have lunch, whatever.

This nice little park has a great location, right along the Olentangy River, and backing up to the Olentangy Greenway Trail. It is divided into two sections, north and south. You can find parking in the north section, which also contains a nice selection of amenities, including a baseball field, basketball court, a playground, picnic tables and the like. You can use the greenway trail to access the south area, which is a nice open green space. The access to the greenway trail means that you can also get a nice walk or bike ride in too. The trail section there includes a bridge across the river to get to the Ohio State University wetlands. It’s a very nice area, and the river adds a great nature feel despite the park’s proximity to neighborhoods and shops, with birds and other animals stopping by for some fun sightings.
