Hard to give Café 49 more than two stars when the service is slow and the staff is moody. Took 30 minutes for food to arrive tonight when the place was not busy at all.

I go for breakfast occasionally as I work nearby. Pancakes are good… they should warm syrup and wipe bottle. Hashbrowns are shredded & inconsistent. Some times crisp & sometimes pale & greasy. My toast was partially burned today & I only had grape jelly for a choice. Pricing keeps changing. Staff not very friendly… moody. After years of my familiar face you’d think they’d greet me by my name. It’s not how I would run a restaurant! PS. When order ketchup for hashbrowns you get an I’ve cold bottle from the fridge.

I go here for their breakfast so I can’t comment on lunch/dinner. It is their pancakes that bring me back to this place; I love their pancakes. Everything else is just as expected(diner style) for a classic breakfast meal. I like the look and feel of the restaurant and when the owner is there, the crew is at their best. Consistency is a problem from time to time but that happens in some non-chains. What we need in the area is place we can also get good breakfast bagels(such as Poppy’s). Please don’t suggest bagel boat.

Café 49 is a great business that the owners are always there and tentative to the customers and the employees. Everyone seems happy to be there and very helpful when trying to find things on the menu that meet your needs whether you are vegetarian or want a food cooked to your specific needs/wants. They have always been willing to work to meet my needs with my allergies and food requirements. On top of the great available foods for me, the prices are very fair and a great place to go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I go there a couple times a week just to get the great food! I would recommend everyone to go try one of the over 30 home cooked vegetables or the daily features. I have never been let down and I don’t think you will either.

My first visit inside, Sunday morning at 10:30am. We did not get water/beverages until about10 minutes. The food was cold and lacked flavor and the service was poor. I wish we had a good breakfast place, but this is definately not it.

First and last time I will ever go there. Food came out lukewarm, found eyelash in my side item, asked for another soda never received it but was charged for it. Service was terrible. Best part of the meal was the company I was with. When asked for another soda waitress looked at me with the deer and headlights look.

Café 49 is recommended when visiting the Stowe gardens. We had difficulty finding it on the highway. Once we arrived we were greeted and our order was taken when we were ready. I had the greek salad with chicken on top(it is not noted in the menu but they were able to meet my request.) The chicken is grilled and not breaded-Yippee! My husband had the special of the day, slow roasted beef with salad and vegetables. It was quite the serving and it was good too. I would return if I am in the area again. One note, they request patrons to check out when the waitress leaves for the day. However, they don’t require that you leave at the same time.

My husband and I eat there quite a bit especially during the week we both work. We usually get the specials. Chicken and dumplings Thursday night, fried chicken Wednesday night. They have excellent chicken wings if you have not tried them. The service is always great! It is a fairly priced small restaurant that serves a meat and vegetable meal. They also run a special on Lobsters on Friday nights. You have to reserve them they are delivered fresh on Friday. There are so many fast food places in the area .Café 49 is a great choice that is moderately priced.

Had a great lunch of grilled flounder today — it was light and fresh! Service was good and our waitress was very friendly!

After church lunch today… a little bit of a wait with others doing the same, but less that 20 minutes I would guess and our waitress was over right away to take our drink orders and get us settled which was a plus! I ordered the grilled chicken filet with sides of fried zuchinni and squash and it was actually quite good. For less than $ 10 it was a full sized meal and the portions were just right. My husband ordered the special of the day(well one of them) and it was a big piece of bone in chicken with stuffing and green beans. I don’t think it’s one of the best meals I’ve had in Lake Wylie so far, but I’d give it another chance for sure to try some of the other things on the menu. It’s a meat and three kinda place, and sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered(well minus the fried veggies, but hey… what are you gonna do :)

We recently moved to the Steel Creek area and were hunting a new place for dinner. We decided to try Café 49 in Lake Wylie. The place itself seemed alright, but the food was not as good as it could have been. Frozen fried squash chunks, tasteless hollandaise sauce over broccoli. The place was small yet the service was slow. On the Wednesday night that we tried it, there were 2 tables that had crying children at them with parents that seemed oblivious. It was so distracting and loud that I had to get out of there so we flagged the waitress down and got our check before I made a scene. It was our first time going there, so I was trying to maintain my calm, but it got more and more difficult as the minutes ticked by. I never understand why restaurant managers don’t deal with screaming children. I am not happy when the meal that I’m paying for is interrupted by other people’s children and I certainly don’t want to PAY for that experience! Café 49 has lost two potential customers that eat out every meal and have disposable income. Managers of Café 49: take some control of your establishment!

Breakfast is great and consistent. Dinner was a 1 star — go figure. We go weekly for breakfast and although we generally order the same thing, its always busy and you never hear anyone complaining.

I was very disappointed. Waitress was pleasant but slow. We went for breakfast late on a Saturday morning. The place wasn’t busy. One simple way to rate a restaurant? Does your coffee cup every stay empty. Mine did. I didn’t get a refill until I flagged her down. My group had 4 people — 2 adults and 2 kids — including a 7 year old. Our breakfast was $ 47! Two of us ordered the«budget» breakfast which was $ 5.99 each. I am pretty sure we were overcharged. The food was not that fantastic either. Eggs over medium were cooked properly but the wheat toast was stale and cold. The sausage was also cold. I don’t think we will be going back. For $ 47, I could go to the grocery and cook up one heck of a breakfast for a crowd!

Great breakfast! Never had anything but breakfast there, so these stars are based strictly on breakfast. First time we went, I would have given it maybe 2 stars, tops. We ordered coffee, OJ, eggs over easy and home fries with bacon. The eggs were terribly runny. I always order eggs over easy, and the whites are never runny. The home fries were tasteless and mushy, and the bacon was so-so. The coffee was awful(but I have never found a good breakfast place that makes good coffee; I like robust coffee). OJ was very good. Service was excruciatingly slow. We decided to give it a second chance, and I’m glad we did. This time, I ordered scrambled eggs and hubby asked for his eggs over medium. I switched to hash browns and sausage – I got links, he got patties. I skipped coffee and had their yummy OJ. My eggs were delightfully fluffy and neither over– nor undercooked. Hubby’s over medium order did the trick. Hash browns were delicious! Hubby wasn’t too thrilled with the sausage patties, but the links are out of this world! I keep meaning to ask where they get them. Makes my mouth water just thinking about ‘em! We overheard someone ordering the hash browns with onions, so we tried ours that way last weekend. Not bad. The onions were opaque, some still a little firm, but tasty. I do prefer onions in hash browns to be a little golden brown – makes them sweeter. So it’s a toss-up: onion or sans onion. Service is still terribly slow(or at least inconsistent – once we were in and out in 30 minutes, but sometimes it takes 90). So we don’t go there when we’re in a hurry. However, the waitstaff are very friendly and attentive, and they’ve never gotten our orders wrong. I would have given 5 stars if the service were faster and they had good coffee.

Meat and two… and Italian too. Good family dining, which is getting harder to find.
