I have been to the Milan Institute student salon twice now. It’s fun being a part of the process of girls being in beauty school and giving them someone to work on. i’ve gotten two haircuts and had acrylic nail tips done. The haircuts have been OK, but I will need to get the nails redone as they were first applied by a true novice. if you don’t like something immediately that’s been done, an instructor can fix it on the spot. You also have seven days to go back and have things redone if you are not satisfied. The staff are all friendly. I do feel like the nail stations need some lighting, so the girls can see what they’re doing. Going to the student salon is a great way to get some affordable pampering. Just be aware that things are going to take 2 to 3 times longer than a regular salon depending on who you work with. They have moved from the Shaw location to the old Heald college building a little bit west of Blackstone on Bullard

They give great massages and facials here. The students are learning so you can’t expect perfection, but it sure beats an arm and leg going to a salon or spa! Customer service has been great.

Went here for a pedi. Even though they’re students, I felt like I was in a day spa. I will be going back to Milan for my future pedicure needs, can’t beat the price for what you get.

Great place to get a haircut! Services are done by students but there is always a instructor near by. If you do not mind having a student cut your hair, this is the place $ 7 for a cut and it includes the shampoo

What a horrible experience. From calling to scheduling an appointment to walking up to the filthy entrance and filthy finger prints all over the door — to the terrible haircut! Never, Never, Never again! When I initially called to schedule the appointment, I was on hold for over 6 minutes, when I mentioned this to the«receptionist» she just snapped back that she was busy and all by herself. I told her I would try back later when she wasn’t so busy and she said OK and hung up. Well, generally, this would be the end of it — but a dear friend, who’s daughter is a student here(and the student is a young friend of mine too) asked me to please help her out by coming in for a haircut. Now, I just go my haircut 2 weeks ago, but decided I wanted a few more layers and thought this would be safe. NOTHING is safe at Milan, because there is no instruction. These students are left to fend for themselves and are going to get eaten alive in the«real» world. I didn’t want ANY length off — just a bit more layered. I left at least two inches shorter(well in the back anyway) I ended up with an A-line, so the front is MUCH longer than the back, although I specifically stated I didn’t want an A-line at all! I would think at a «school» I would tell the student what I wanted, the teacher would come over at that point, allow the student to tell the teacher what I wanted and how she PLANNED to get there and at that point the TEACHER would INSTRUCT the student on that plan. But no, just chop, chop, chop. The students techniques were horrible. I’m almost 50 years old and have been getting hair cuts my entire life, and never have I seen such terrible technique. She left so much slack in the hair when she cut it, there’s no way she could give a proper cut. But I don’t blame the student ATALL! I blame the instructor 100% The instructor with the white — and pink — oh I think black and purple hair with one side longer than the other — yes that one, that I first wanted to say«and please don’t make my hair look like yours» — but it did look nice on her. And probably only her. The«instructor» that walked around the entire time I was there with her face down in her phone or I pad or whatever device she had. After the student«finished» cutting my hair, she called this instructor over and the instructor, did very little instructing — and walked away. At this point I already knew there were problems because it was obvious to me one side is longer than the other, but nothing was said — the instructor just walked away. Didn’t watch over the student for even 1 second to be sure she was heading in the right direction. She was not concerned what so ever what was going on in the salon during my entire visit. She only helped when asked. I don’t know — beauty school, students, scissors — I would think an instructor would almost have to be in «defense» mode. Ready to pounce and correct at any given moment. This is hair for God’s sake — it takes months to grow back — and Milan just lets their students run wild with scissors. Shame on Milan — shame on these instructors. Never again… save yourself and don’t step foot in this place.

Came here twice. One for a haircut, let’s just say I ended up leaving with a lot of patches and second for an eyebrow wax as well as a pedicure(don’t judge straight guys get them too). I felt relaxed throughout the whole pedicure. Eyebrow waxes hurt like heck though, but it definitely looks better now that I don’t have a unibrow.

My daughter returned to the East Bay after having an employment stint in the Central Valley. So she needed a hair cut before she left, and went to Milan in Clovis. What a disastrous result! I was so shocked upon her arrival here, I took pics. So-called layers turned out to be one side glaringly short and the other a few inches down at shoulder length. In my whole life, I’ve never seen such a butcher job, and it’s all the worse because my beautiful daughter did not deserve such treatment. She has otherwise had positive experiences at other beauty schools so this was a rock bottom surprise. Based on what i see, i certainly cannot recommend this place to anyone, even my worst enemy!

Great prices for salon value service. I got a spa pedicure $ 9. I felt pampered, feet feel baby soft, and the polish looks great!

My daughter needed an updo, makeup, and nails for her winter formal. I couldn’t get an appointment anywhere else below $ 200. A friend told me to try a beauty school student salon. After much hesitation we decided to give them a try. I worried because they advertised a package deal(prom package) including everything she wanted for $ 35. Glad we gave them a shot. Staff was friendly and everything came out beautiful! Just remember, they are students and it will take longer than a traditional salon. Instructors are on site to approve work and assist. Great job ladies!

Best Massage Ever! I love coming to Milan for Massages. They always do a great job. I l always leave feeling relaxed! You can’t beat the prices and for what you would pay somewhere else, I can 3 or 4 massages at Milans. It’s my «go to» place for a massage whenever I’m feeling tense or stressed or just want a relaxing massage. I highly recommend Milan Institute!

Friendly service. Recognize that it is likely a student who will be performing the hair cut(or whatever service you’re requesting) — the quality may not be that one would receive from an experienced stylist. The prices are very reasonable.

Milan in Clovis was amazing! They dyed my hair an amazing deep ginger color, with no spots or faded areas. The whole thing was only $ 17. The girls weren’t super social, and the teacher was lacking in social skills, but overall it was a great experience. I got my hair done Nov. 1st and it is still full color on February 18th! :)

They used cheap, clumpy, dried up nail polish which left a bumpy finish and peeled off an hour later. What a waste of money.

I came here twice. Once in 2008 Another just on wednesday I was not disappointed at all. The second time was from a friend. She was doing such a great job, and I am very pleased with the results. I payed full price, which kind of shot me at the time but it was worth it. The instructors are so-so, and not every student knows what they’re doing, but I was lucky to find the gems. :]

I’m a lucky guy. Ever since I can remember, I’ve always known at LEAST one girl who’s going through beauty school at any given moment. So yeah, ever since I’ve been paying for my own haircuts pretty much, I’ve been getting them for free or damn near free and it’s a good feeling. :) No joke, I got a text randomly from a girl I knew back in high school saying, «I work at Milan! Come in and let me cut your hair!» just as the last chick that was cutting my hair had moved on to a salon that charges $ 20 for a man’s haircut… Score! So now, I get my haircut from a place that’s only a few blocks away from my house, for $ 3 and a tip. Plus, I love the attention I get here given the girl: guy ratio in there is like 20:1. I swear, at a barbershop is the easiest way to talk to a girl… Anyway back on track… This same girl has been cutting my hair for about the past 4 or 5 months or so, and she does it perfect! I mean, men’s hair isn’t rocket science… Size 1 on the back and sides, fade into a 3 or sometimes 4 on top for almost a short«faux-hawk» look, except I swear I’ve been rocking this style since waaay before they became popular and over-the-top douchey. Seriously, I know some guys that try to make their haircuts«last» and look a little unkempt trying to squeeze every day they can before having to shell out for another haircut, but for how cheaply I get mine cut, I come in whenever I wake up with a cowlick or whatever you call those, haha… Guys, beauty schools are the way to go! Get your ass to one of these places NOW! Women, you might want to take another look, too. I know you girls throw hundreds of dollars away on your hair each month–(maybe even as much as my car note) you might want to look into what it would cost for you to get whatever it is that costs you so damn much over here, instead.

Ok. I’m not trying to bag on anyone, but the instructor had no idea what he was doing. I’m always so skeptical when I get my hair cut so even considering having it cut at a beauty school was ridculous, but they had a special. I should of figured when a hair cut was 6.99 with style, but something just said, «go for it». BADGUTFEELING! I’ve been here before and had facials and my nails done, but never a haircut. The student that cut my hair had no idea what she was doing. Kept asking the instructor for directions. So I told her what I wanted, even showed her a picture on my phone. Simple. Sat down, had her cutting away at my split ends, whatever. Done. Now for the side swept bangs I asked for, she asked her instructor to do it. Ok, no problem, I would much rather have an instructor do it than have her do it when she had no clue. Instead of creating side swept bangs, he cut a straight edge line type bang and ended up looking like an uneven one layer that was chin length and the rest of my hair was long and another length. He then left and she continued with my hair. For the styling part, I asked for just some volume and straight hair. I don’t know if this girl understood what volume was, but she blow dryed my hair, not with one of those big round brushes and a blow dryer, but with a fine tooth comb. I know I’m not some top notch know it all hair stylist, but I know what is needed to create that volumous hair and it aint no damn fine tooth comb and a blow dryer. After that, she created some curled out effect with my bang and I looked like a damn hot mess. WTF? She left for a second and I took the straightner and attempted to ‘fix” the curled out bang she created. I was pretty pissed. You’d think they would teach the students a little bit more until they let them out onto the«floor«to do hair etc. I know you learn from experiences, but I’m mostly unimpressed with the instructor for not knowing a simple side swept bang. URGH! Another case of you get what you pay for WHEN it comes to hair at Milan. 2 stars for the facial and nail experiences which were decent.
