3O8 also know as the Harris Ranch Airport is located 9 miles from Coalinga, right off the highway 5 freeway. If you’ve driven to or from the LA area, I have no doubt you’ve either stopped for a rest or driven past and wondered, «why does it smell like death.» The airstrip next to Harris Ranch is 30 feet wide by 2800 feet long. There are no taxiways. No FBO’s. No staff or maintenance crews or any other services normally found at uncontrolled airports. Yep, 3O8 is one heck of an «E» Ticket ride. A ride that’s definitely not for the faint at heart passenger(s) or an inexperienced pilot whose not quite comfortable or proficient with landings /departures from an uncontrolled, extremely narrow and short runway. Overall, the runway is well maintained and as of December 28, 2014 when I flew in and departed that evening, the runway has a fresh coat of slurry seal and new outer edge PCL. There’s also plenty of free parking with new tie downs and its a really short walk from GA parking to the restaurant. The best advice I can recommend for arriving at 3O8 is, do a over-field fly over to check the winds and check for other aircraft in the pattern. It’s not uncommon for planes on final to be met head on by departing planes heading right at them since again, there are NO taxiways or hold-shorts to wait turns.

This is a tiny little airport next to he Harris Ranch Inn and Restaurant, and I believe it’s owned by them. There are always small planes and hobbyist pilots walking around here. They are generally friendly, and I believe some of them even help with Pilots and Paws. Sometimes you can find some cool looking planes here. I’ll take more photos next time I’m there.
