This place is full of teenage help that has no clue how to greet a customer or give change from a cash transaction. The night I was there, I had time to count 6 employees talking in the kitchen the other 3 seemed to be doing the work. They all turned towards me when I walked in, said nothing and turned away without saying anything. There was one pizza on the rack that was done and it was mine. The phone began to ring and one of the employees that may have been doing the work, ran to the phone, looked at me and held her finger up gesturing that a calling customer is more important than a customer with cash in his hand standing in front of her. It took about 4 minutes to get out of there. That really isn’t very long but my transaction could have taken 30 seconds if someone was there to actually run the place. There’s New York style pizza about an extra ½ mile away and it’s pretty good. Perhaps I’ll invest my 2 minutes to drive a bit further.

Havent had the pleasure of dining in yet but for carry out I give it 4 Stars. Best breadsticks around! Love them but they dont give you enough sauce. ALWAYS order an extra one! But there atmosphere is always nice. The ToGo area is in there kitchen area, so theres always someone there to great you and usually they are having a lot of fun in there. I have had the best service from pizza den every time I have gone. Always smiling, Always friendly, Always willing to go grab something when I want to add something on. THATS what good customer service looks like…

It was a visit to my parents that led me to Pizza Den, a sort of out of the way pizza joint in Putnam County that can best be described as «on the way» to Heritage Lake in Coatesville. You’ll have to turn off of US36 at the Heritage Lake Sign and take the winding road until you find Pizza Den on the right. It’s an off-beat location for a rustic looking restaurant, but the place has been here for years so it must work. Pizza Den is decked out in a log cabin style with logs also making up the walls of the interior. The entire décor has a definite rustic feeling to it. If you’re offended by outward displays of support for the U.S. troops, then this isn’t your place. There are a couple of American flags and a handful of of armed forces flags that mark the front exterior of the building. I was all ready to mark Pizza Den down a star when I pulled up, after years of intending to visit the place, and couldn’t find any type of wheelchair access. I was super hungry and not in the mood to drive back the 15 minutes to Danville, so I decided I would make it work. I’m well aware some in wheelchairs couldn’t do that as I’m probably considered more mobile than most in chairs. There was a step up to their sidewalk, THEN there was another step up to the decking area that leads into the restaurant. It seemed weird that I couldn’t see any access anywhere, but I ended up climbing out of my wheelchair to make it work. It was only on my way out that I observed that they do, in fact, have a ramp at the other end of the building that is not clearly marked. They also offer an accessible spot. So, while I wish it were more clearly marked I find myself not willing to knock off a star for what I simply missed. The entrance is a little tricky for a wheelchair, as well, but ultimately works. There’s a small lip at the door that was difficult to maneuver. I also noticed that the narrow hallway leading to the restrooms has a significant incline. I mean, it’s a log cabin. I get that, but it’s still worth noting. As you enter, there’s basically two sides to a dining area separated by a mini-decorative wall. There are a couple televisions and some local artwork on the walls. I’d consider the décor woodsy, warm and inviting. As you might guess, their specialty is pizza, though they do also offer a variety of sandwiches and actual meals. While I haven’t been eating much in the way of pizza lately, I was in the mood to splurge and had allowed myself a day off from my dietary regimen in order to celebrate a family occasion. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they offered a «personal pizza» option that would allow me to splurge without binging. The basic personal pizza is $ 5(cheese only), while it goes up according to toppings. You can add 1 – 3 toppings for a mere $ 1 extra. Drinks, my usual unsweetened iced tea, were $ 1.89. While some of their dinner prices seemed a bit high, you can easily eat for under ten bucks here and I’m baffled why anyone would complain about their prices. They also offer a $ 6.99 lunch buffet, though I’m guessing it’s just Monday — Friday since I was there on a Saturday at lunch and saw no signs of it. Personal pizzas seem to be sort of the black sheep of the pizza family. Many pizza joints offer them, but it seems like they sort of scream out«I’m not willing to commit to your pizza.» They run the range from godawful to «this is pretty good for a quick meal.» The good news is that Pizza Den’s personal pizza is definitely on the upper end of personal pizzas I’ve experienced. It was bigger than many, offered plentiful toppings, and was a genuinely satisfying meal. I also loved that it took a few minutes to get it, because that told me it was prepared fresh. My iced tea was good and I did get my desired refill. As has been noted in other reviews, the service can be a tad slow. I viewed it as more«casual» than slow. Any time I asked for something, I was met with good service and enthusiasm. I was definitely checked in on, but it also was definitely a tad slow. I kind of appreciated not being rushed out of a restaurant. I’m not quite willing to fork over a 5-star rating. There were some accessibility issues and the service was a touch slow, but I loved the food and wasn’t really that bothered by the service issues. Again, it seemed casual more than«slow» to me. Being that this is a small, country pizza joint, I don’t feel compelled to treat it like the usual urban joint that I typically frequent. After years of wondering about«that place,» I find myself asking«Why did it take me so long to try it out?» If you’re in the Putnam County area, it’s definitely worth an effort to visit this out of the way little gem.

Food was good but a bit much for what you get. Staff forgot us in the corner. Had to track them down to get a refill.

The Pizza Den is near my parents house at Heritage Lake. They have a variety of food besides pizzas: salads, sandwiches, calzones. I’ve only had pizza and calzones. The food is pretty good, but it’s a little expensive.
