The food reminded me of my Czech grandmother’s cooking. I had a wonderful appetizer that was fresh from the oven. My Hungarian goulash entrée was perfectly seasoned. I indulged in the chocolate mousse for dessert. All of it was amazing and the portions were just the right size. I live in the area and plan to make many more visits to this hidden gem.

We had my daughters baptism dinner here. My family is eastern European descent and they all loved the food. My godparents went back when they were up for a visit. The owners are wonderful people!

What a gem ! I have been looking for a restaurant in this area that serves German/Eastern European food for some time and have finally found one. The food is excellent, and the owner and staff welcome’s you like an old friend. The owner’s wife does all the cooking„ which she learned from her mother in Europe. We had the Sauerbraten, which was wonderful as was the pork dish. Give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Went here during a business trip and wow, by far the best dinner we had the whole week. We had the Wiener schnitzel and the chicken st abbey and both were excellent. For desert a flour less hazelnut cake and strawberry creeps were delicious. Food took some time to prepare, but it was worth the wait. Waitress was super nice and friendly as well as the owners. Will come back again on the next trip for sure.

We really liked this place: a treat pretty much in the middle of no where… the menu read like a tour of Europe… especially good were the Hungarian goulash and the coq a vin. Owner, Janis(pronounced Yanuss) was welcoming and super friendly. The place is pricey: average dinner entrée was $ 25, portions are just right… but the preparation and love that goes into each one is apparent and worth the price. I recommend supporting this one woman chef show!

One of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life. The timing was perfect, each dish was not only delicious but beautiful and well balanced. If you would like more than just a meal, go here! It was not dinner, it was an experience!

This is superb dining that’s worth the drive to Cobleskill. Johannes met our party of four with a warm greeting and proceeded to share the building’s history, first as a church and then as a grange when it was moved to its current location. Quite a feat when you realize this took place in the 1920−1930s. The dining room is beautifully decorated, homey, and comfortable, and enhancing the atmosphere was relaxing music being played on the piano by the wife of a local minister. The entrées are very unique so making a decision isn’t easy. I chose the vegetable pancakes appetizer which proved to be the beginning of an extraordinary savory journey. The sausage and potato soup that followed was also wonderful and wet our anticipation of what would follow. We were not disappointed — The Belgian Abbey Chicken, Romanian Lamb Kebabs, and Czech Veprova Pecne na Smetana were incredible and we would highly recommend all of them. Jeannette is a most gifted chef — each dish is a work of art, in suitable proportion, and awakens your every taste bud. We wrapped up the evening with irresistible homemade desserts and yearning for an immediate return visit. Thank you. Everything was impeccable from soup to service. We simply could not believe we were the only patrons on a Friday night and must get the word out about this gem. So people! Come on down… to beautiful Schoharie County and a completely WOW experience. We’ll see you there.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant, wish I lived in the area I would be a frequent customer. Visited Cobbleskill to go to Howe Caverns and my boyfriend and I were looking for a nice restaurant to eat in and there is not much in Cobbleskill, and boy am I glad we found this little gem. Owned by a husband and wife team, the wife does all the cooking and it is excellent. My boyfriend ordered the Farmers Feast which was sausages, porkchops and a side of potatoes and sauerkraut. I would love to know how she makes the sauerkraut because it was unparalled. I ordered the vegetarian greek moussaka and it was delicious. The food leans toward being eastern european inspired, so heavy on the meats but it was just delicious. However, if it’s even possible, the Ommegang Dubbel Beer gives the food a run for its money and comes in a large bottle. The husband/host is a delight and makes you feel like family providing for a welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend it, you won’t be disappointed!

Very nice well presented dishes, the cream of asparagus soup was very good. Friendly, chatty owner and nice ambiance. However they lost me at dessert. I ordered chocolate mousse, which was heavy and dense instead of light. The worst sin was cool whip instead of real whipped cream. Really? You can’t make real schlag?

Though the food was very good, the conversation and history lesson from the owner and his wife(also the Chef) was worth the price of admission. It never ceases to amaze me to find people, who were victims of WWII and the Russian occupation, living in a pretty rural area. These two bring an european sensibilty to their restaurant and their food with a dose of heroism not seen too often nowadays. Did I mention that the food was good. Being of german extract and having both parents from Germany, I do not take the Americanization of German food well. Not a problem here though there was no spaztele on the menu. One forgivable oversight. Check it out.

I really did not like it here. We had to wait for an hour and forty five minutes for our food. Once it arrived they asked if we wanted dessert before we were even done eating, and really seemed to push us out the door. The waitress was nice but that is about it

Went there on 10/20/2012. Reservation was for 6:30pm and my wife and I arrived 10 minutes early. Place was not busy but things started off bad. Waitress screwed up soup and salad order. About 15 minutes after placing our order waitress came out to say they were out of the chicken dish my wife ordered. Why they didn’t tell us sooner is beyond me. After waiting about an hour and half for our dinner we were finally served. Witnessed another table ask where their bread was and the waitress told them they were all out of bread. Out of bread, it is hard to believe. Another table got tired of waiting and left without eating. Food is expensive and you would expect a better class of service. I can only hope that this is an isolated case. otherwise they won’t be in business much longer.

Pleasant surprise. Visiting area and had little expectations we would find a good meal. Read Unilocal review and decided to try A Taste of Europe and I am so glad we did. Owners include the Latvian maitre d and the chef from Prague who do this for the love of food and cooking. The menu includes dishes from a variety of European countries and all that we tried were excellent. The restaurant is the first floor of a home, with elegant gold chair covers and fresh flowers on the table. attentive service. food prep a bit slow but all cooked to order by one chef/owner the night we were there. I particularly recommend the mushroom perogies beautifully presented with swirls of mustard and sour cream around the edge of the plate. Also ask for the Slovakian poppyseed/filo dough/nut dessert with swirls of chocolate and berry on the plate. Yum! I felt like we were invited guests to a lovely home with an excellent cook.

We were passing through Cobleskill on vacation when we found this gem of a restaurant on Unilocal. What a fantastic meal! We shared a plate of Latvian Pragi as an appetizer and ordered three entrées: French Coq au Vin, Hungarian Goulash, and Czech Veprová Peene na Smetane. Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor, a feast for the eyes and for the palate. The dining room was elegant, as well as warm and cozy, and the host was charming and kind. Thank you, Johannes and Jeanette for a memorable meal! We’ll definitely be back the next time we are in the area.

More than I expected. Owner was charming, chatted wonderfully and made us feel welcome and special! Service was solid and professional. Soup and entrees were tasty and comforting– very European! great Bauernschmaus(saussage and smoked pork chop) and tastyCzech«Veprova Pecene né Smetane»(roast pork loin). Desserts were unbelivable and the coffee smooth and satisfying! Well done– we will be back!

.Authentic European fare, served with beautiful presentation, and some great beers(including six Belgian-style choices from Ommegang) to pair it with. The dining room is quiet and congenial; it felt like we were dinner guests, especially since the proprietor took time to welcome us and chat while we waited for our meal. The entrees– Polish-style sautéed pierogi, filet mignon, and a Czech-style pork tenderloin dish – were each delicious and carefully prepared with beautiful garnishes. I’ll be sure to eat here at least once the next time I’m in the area. Just off I-88 at the Cobleskill exit #22.
