This places is not for everyone. This is Texas style BBQ and Mexican food. We didn’t get to try the Mexican but we want to go back very soon. Stopped in on a rainy day after we got lost in Troy/Cohoes.(This happens to Vermonters who are use to directions that include turn at the third maple shack or second cow.) We split an order of Dirty fries. I added some brisket from my sandwich. That needs to be a menu option! I had a brisket sandwich and it took me right back to those little«bbq shacks» that are every where back home in Georgia. My darling had a ½ rack platter with okra and mac and cheese bites. I was able to steal a few bites of his sides and one rib to try. Very good smoke flavor. We liked the sauce so much we bought some to take home. We have eaten at other(Better known) bbq places but don’t typically buy the sauce to take home. We also took home a tamale pie for the kids and those picky little divas didn’t even share! Must have been amazingly good. We can’t wait to go back with the kids and try some more items including the Mexican dishes.

I had a good time here. I ate in. It was very good barbecue food. I got the chicken sandwich and it was a very good deal for what I got.

WAY better than Dinosaur BBQ. Nothing fancy or trendy – just excellent BBQ we never get tired of – especially the pulled pork, brisket, wings, and ribs. We usually get takeout, and they have never once screwed up our order. Note: There was a very rude girl working the counter a couple summers ago, but she is long gone. The current staff is very friendly and down-to-earth. Great folks. They know their stuff and keep the line moving. Recommended.

Well I feel like a giant meany head saying it, but there was just nothing Texan about this place. Or no, one thing — the meat was actually smoked. They were out of brisket(much to our dismay) so I can’t comment on that, but the pork was cooked decently, I just wasn’t a fan of the sauce or roll. My Texan hub luckily didn’t have high hopes to begin with since Texas is much more renowned for their beef bbq than pork, so the name alone was enough to make him never want to eat here even though we live right down the street. I am always the optimist though, and after reading reviews I convinced him we should give it a shot. I have got to learn to pipe down on that. All in all a total swing and miss. The Mexican half of the order was especially disappointing. Reminded me exactly of when I first moved to Tennessee from California and experienced what they called«taco» day at my school cafeteria. Sad. Also they have canned and bottled soda but no Dr. Pepper?! Texas runs on DP! Or I suppose DP& Shiner. I myself don’t like it, but B was not pleased. I guess maybe New Yorkers are not themselves fans though(I hear ya it’s syrupy stomach ache city if you ask me), and to stay in business over the course of 23 years you probably have to cater to your market. Maybe that’s what’s with the pig being highlighted as well. I’m just reaching for straws here, trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. «Tex» himself was helpful and super hardworking, but the girl putting our order in had no patience with our decision making. I’m pretty sure there wasn’t anyone behind us(because I would have let them go first), but if there was they walked in at the tail end while I was focused on ordering. Now for the upside! If you don’t have standards set high by hailing from the South, this is a super affordable place to eat and you’ll likely enjoy it. The portions are so huge you’d think that guy from all the commercials owns the joint. At the end of the day at least we received way more food than we could ever eat for $ 24. That’s definitely unique to the area.

Just had my pig pit fix but this time I chose a takeout order. It’s easy IN and Out at Dyke Ave of 787 North. It’s actually hard to drive by with your windows open and not stop. It’s not fancy but who cares, it’s so darn good. You can buy your pulled pork or chicken by the lb. with their cole slaw & make your own subs @ home It’s quick and friendly service no matter what. Just irresistible!

I wish I could give a great review… Based on other reviews, I was very looking forward to this. We went in around 7 on a Thursday night and it was slow admittedly by staff. They made a point to say we were the only couple there. Despite signs that state good food takes time… The food was rushed and cold. My partner got the pulled pork platter and the new cook automatically put cole slaw on. Before they served the other cook asked if he wanted it that way, he didn’t so he made him a new cold sandwich and let us take the other to go. I will say the taste was good the temperature was bad and it felt like they were waiting for us to go so they could leave… Overall for a place that brags they are better than dinosaur… Walk the walk

Customer Service was awesome! Food was delicious and very cheap. I had the catfish sandwich w/sweet potatoes fries and it was amazing! My Husband had the ribs and chicken w/fries coleslaw and potatoes salad and he said everything was delicious. Our daughter had the kids meal which is the chicken tenders w/fries she liked it, but they should maybe add more options for the little ones.

I’m making some assumptions on their behalf with the fourth star. I’m a vegetarian and I’ve never actually been there. My boyfriend surprised me with fries, fried green beans and corn bread the other night and I have to applaud all three. I’m a fry snob and these were perfectly executed with a pleasant texture and hint of seasoning. The fried green beans had much more flavor than I expected and came with a great dip. The cornbread was the moist sweet sort. I know, I know, it is simple appetizer fare. Junk food. But sometimes that’s all you need so it needs to be done correctly. Great meal!

Pit Pit is at the end of 787 and serves smoky Texas BBQ. Personally I think this place is all about the pulled pork. They do a bunch of tex mex stuff and the portions on everything are huge. They are cheaper and smokier than Capital Q. Great casual Q place and good for takeout. The Bottom Line: Good honest BBQ

Had the ribs basket, it was delicious. Ribs were fall off the bone with a nice smokeyness. Also the fires were crispy and the coleslaw was on point

The BBQ is very good here. Portions are pretty big. I go with a pig in a blanket(tortilla wrap) making it a basket with slaw. The menu is huge. The BBQ chicken is eh, brisket is good, the pig is best.

I went there a second time to see if there was an improvement, but found that the ribs were just as tough the second time around as the first. The staff is generally disinterested, preferring to watch TV than engage with this patron. It’s convenient, has parking, and appears clean(including the bathroom). The sauce appeared to be out of a bottle(i.e. only medium quality). The servings were good sized, just wish the ribs were more tender.

I picked up lunch to go at Tex’s Pig Pit BBQ. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich($ 6.95) with Fries & Cole Slaw(add $ 2 for combo). I got my sandwich sloppy style(add cole slaw for no additional charge). The service was quick and friendly and my food was all set to go in about 5 minutes. The«Sloppy» Pulled Pork Sandwich was piled with generous amounts of tender lean pulled pork in a sweet BBQ sauce, topped with crunchy cole slaw(shredded cabbage & carrot) in a soft torpedo roll. The seasoned dirty fries were very crisp, soft inside, a salty and spicy taste. The side of cole slaw was crunchy and creamy, just like the slaw on my pulled pork sandwich. Overall, the food was very good and tasty and priced reasonably, I would come back here again for the BBQ, but also to try out some of their Mexican dishes too.

My wife and I wanted to have a laid back, relaxed Friday night dinner. We sat outside at one of the picnic tables. It wasn’t the best, but it was pretty good. We are going to go back with in the mood for their menu, and would suggest you all give it a try too.

This is my kind of bbq. Its a small place with a decent amount of parking. You can sit outside or in. I got the brisket and the misses got the pulled pork. We order the dinner plates(comes with 2 sides) and got two drinks so the tab was right at $ 40. However, it was MORE than one meals worth. We both got the coleslaw(very good). I got the dirty fries(yes lawd) and she got the sweet potato fries(she liked them). I will be finishing my coleslaw and brisket today. Cant wait. The catering price wasnt bad either. I think it was 15 person minimum at $ 10 per head. Definetely going back here.

A tasty mistake. 5 stars because I wanted the hickory smoked wings and got the country wings instead. My lord are they freaking tasty! Add this to the list of must gets when I go to this place. As a matter of fact, I’m ordering a triple serving as we speak. I also got my usual chili mac, as that is off the charts too. Half rack of ribs, cooked to perfection. Since the mistake they made a year ago with the overcooked ribs, this place has put that memory completely away! You really need to try this place. Or get to the cart on the Plaza. It’s all soooooo good!!! Only thing, Pig Pit? Get some LARGER wings!!! That would make then tough to beat on any level!!!

What can I say about Pig Pit? The food is fantastic and abundant, while the prices won’t break your pocketbook… Since moving to their newest location, they added a seating section, or you can(as many do) take the food to go! The pulled pork is awesome, and my better half swears that the brisket is the best she’s ever had! If you’re feeling adventurous, try one of their many appetizers(the fried pickles are worth a try!) Just keep in mind that they only make a certain amount of food each day, and when it is gone, it is gone until the next day!

Pig Pit is interesting. They’re certainly not shy about calling out other BBQ places in the area(namely the Dinosaur). Do they have the bite to back up the bark? I’m inclined to say yes. I’ve been here several times and it’s always been a great experience. The BBQ is definitely fantastic, and they certainly don’t cheat you on the amount of food that they give you. Their hours could be a little better, especially on weekends, but it’s not a terrible inconvenience. Oh, and unlike Capital Q, these guys understand that credit cards are no longer some mysterious and evil voodoo magic to be afraid of. I’d definitely recommend giving the Pig Pit a shot.
