Whistling Willie’s

Since moving to cold spring in November, this has been a spot that I have stopped by many times. We went there last night but did not have the same experience as before. The bartender was less than attentive. As a matter of fact he spent more time on his cell phone than providing the service we have received so many times before. We had to get his attention to receive menus and also to get drinks. The bar was not busy at all. Hopefully this is not the new normal!

I went to this place after hiking. It was just what we all needed after a long hike.
They had some tasty seasonal beer! I tried two different types of pumpkin beer. Both were good! I had a burger that was also good! The menu had a lot of options and I know my entire party was satisfied with their food.
The service was pretty good! Definitely efficient.
It looked pretty spacious. But the long line for the bathroom right by our table was a little much. They need to invest in some more potty space!

I want to start off by saying even though this place is mediocre I eat there once a month and have for quite some time. I never really thought it was any good but there’s not a lot of options in the area.
I have tried the burger, but I mostly get the hanger steak which seems to have a funny kind of seasoning on it that really doesn’t do it much good but it’s not bad sometimes it’s seasoned a little more than others.
My wife likes their nachos which are very good and she also likes the Caesar salad.
The reason I decided to post a review was we went there recently and I got the hanger steak and french onion soup which was fine, and my wife got the Caesar salad.
The Caesar salad had nothing on it, no dressing, no cheese nothing, it was a bowl of lettuce when we finally got the waitresses attention she took the salad back to the kitchen and returned without doing anything to it and told my wife «we looked at it and it has dressing and cheese on it». My wife told her she didn’t want it then and the manager who has seen us there before actually came over and told my wife there’s nothing wrong with salad.
Like I said, we eat there because it’s convenient not because it’s a great place to eat. Now we won’t even eat their because it’s convenient.
The manager should be fired to lose customers over a stupid salad.

Decent food and friendly staff but bring ear plugs.
This is a pub type space so you can expect noise from both the stereo and ambient noise of people speaking over the music. They also have live music from time to time.
I had a naked burger ($ 12) which I thought was just great. It came with fries but the vegetables I thought would come with it were not vegetables it was just the typical lettuce you’d get on burger with bun — the burger was more worth $ 8 give or take but it did come with fries (which I gave away due to my diet not because of taste). A friend had a short rib sandwich or something similar and told me it was cold when received.
Service was really friendly but they honestly need more help because it takes awhile for them to get to you.
Prices were reasonable.
Bathrooms clean.
Temperature well adjusted.
Street parking only.
We had a small group and were seated fairly quickly on an early Saturday evening.

Food was good, the beef patty on my burger fell apart so i had to eat it with a fork, but besides that the flavor was great. The popcorn was delicious. garlic parm! The only thing i did not like about the place was the long line for the bathroom. Also i was standing outside the mens waiting on the women’s to open up and it smelt like urine! Gross!!!

I left my sunglasses here about a week ago and when I came back this week I noticed that my server was wearing them — a very distinctive brand/​model. I asked her if they happen to be a pair that was found but she bluntly said no and that «they could look in the back for any left…»
This review has little to do with the food. I am just disappointing at the dishonestly. It struck me so strange that someone would blatantly lie about something so silly.

5 star food, 3 star service. Burgers and the buns they come on were out of this world. It did, however, take us half the meal to get our drinks, and we sat in front of dirty appetizer dishes despite the waitress passing 15 times or so.
We would definitely try Whistling Willie’s again. If the service improved it would be even better.

Great place to have a meal or drink. Live music and staff is outstanding. Burgers are to die for. Popcorn is flavored daily, and beer selection is outstanding

With regret, I offer this three star review of a favorite place. In the past, we have always enjoyed popping in after a big hike. It’s a nice old place located in Cold Spring. The food has been mostly excellent, the service fine.
We stopped in for lunch on a Thursday after 1 pm. There were lots of folks enjoying themselves inside and outside. Yet there was only one server for all these tables plus the bartender who was pitching in. We sat with our menus for twenty minutes before ordering some pretty simple food. Hot wings, a rare burger and a Cobb Salad. After a long wait, the food came out. The wings were excellent, my rare burger was dead on arrival sitting on an immense and tasteless brioche bun. My Dad’s Cobb Salad was presented appropriately, with the ingredients arrayed over the top of the salad. He asked if someone in the kitchen could mix everything and give him some more dressing.
Twenty minutes goes by. My son and I are nearly done and my Dad’s salad is MIA. I looked up the bartender who was serving us and he said «I’m really busy!!» Very nice… What about «let me look into that for you man, sorry.»
The salad ultimately came out to my Dad’s liking. The bartender attempted to remove my plate even though I was not done. My face betrayed my mood and he started in with «I’m very busy» line again. Oy…
Got the check, paid and left with nary a word from anyone.
Whistling Willies has some good food and drink. But their service would not win any awards. Not rushing back.

The resturant was cozy and cool, while outside it was hot and humid. The wait staff was friendly and we were seated right away. The drinks were cold and refreshing. They have a nice selection of tap beers and some mixed drinks that went down easy. We started with the nacho plate appetizer. It was delicious! Everything came out on the plate on top of the nachos, the cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. For dinner we had the short ribs with red cabbage and corn bread. The meat fell off the bone and was soft and tasty. The red cabbage tasted fresh and sweet. The corn bread smelled as good as it tasted. This burger spot does more than just serve great burgers! Pretty impressive!

Conveniently located near breakneck mountain, went here for post hike snacks and brews and had the cheeto crusted zucchini spears and veal meatloaf sandwich. Both were good as they are items I don’t typically see. I definitely want to come back for their chip stack appetizer…
Great beer selection for those that are thirsty. Service at the bar was a little on the unattentative side though…

Service was abysmal, food was mediocre. We ordered two burgers and the buns tasted stale. My wife ordered hers well done and came dark pink in the middle. We sent it back and it came back pink. My burger was fair, didn’t taste seasoned or particularly fresh.
Our server doesn’t understand the concept of customer service, and practically threw the bill at my wife. Wouldn’t go back here, there are better options in Cold Spring.

Bad service worth no star but 1 star just for I can post the review.
–Kept waiting for 5 mins @ entrance but no anyone came to lead us to seat.
–Kept waiting for more than 15 mins @ outside seat but no anyone came to take our order even one waitress pretended not seeing our request.
–Finally the bad service made us leave this restaurant.

The Surf and turf burger my boyfriend really loved. I ordered the goat cheese stuffed turkey burger which was juice yet I need more of the goat cheese. But great service and a cool selection of beers.

Visited on the day before Memorial Day so it was very busy. Ended up having an outside seat which worked out well. The menu is more sandwich focused but there is a lot of variety in their selections. I had a burger and one of their IPA beers. The burger was prepared just as I requested and was very delicious. And it was huge. You will not leave this place hungry! The only negative was the service was a little lacking. The server got our order out of sequence and someone who was seated before us had their order taken first and they received their food before us.

Lets start with a reality check:
THERE ARE NO REALLY GOOD OPTIONS IN THIS PART OF NEW YORK WITHIN A 20 MIN RADIUS THAT ISN’T A CRAZY 50 $ ENTREE… BUT THIS PROBABLY AS GOOD AS IT GETS (that isn’t a chain).
All come here all the time whenever I come to see my friends here. Its super delicious burgers (in many varieties), a decently awesome beer selection, and it has the local bar feeling that is friendly and welcoming. So basically a little feel of cheers but none of that we are too good for you because we are locals feeling.
So why the 3 stars instead of 5? It comes down to service. There was 1 server for the entire restaurant. This is graduation week at West Point, and you would think they would have better personnel management. I came another day last year on a non-​major event day and I still also waited 40 minutes from my burger to be served.
Is the food worth the wait — why yes… absolutely so. BUT just be prepared for it.

This place is the epitome of a 2-​star.
I think everyone who goes hiking at breakneck ridge comes here right after and ends up satisfied just because their bodies need nourishment.
Why a 2 star you may ask?
— Washrooms didn’t have soap when I went — How am I supposed to wash my hands before eating my burger?
— Burgers themselves are pretty good — However, the waitress basically got all of our orders wrong
That being said, if you want a 2-​star resto to fill you up after your hike, this is your place.

I came here after hking since it was right next to the Hudson Highland State Park. I got the chicken nachos here which was humongous, but mediocre in taste. My friends got burgers which I also tried, I have to say that their burgers are amazing! The burger is huge, but so soft and succulent when you bite into it. Not to mention that it is packed with flavor and juicy goodness. The sweet potato fries were okay, it was more on the soft side that the crunch side.
If I do come back here again, I will definitely get a burger instead. Not sure I would since it’s far from me, but when I go hiking again this would be my next stop right after.
I also had ginger bread beer for the first time. I really liked it, almost tasted like juice but with a little kick to it.

This my mandatory stop after hiking the breakneck ridge to replenish lost energy and fluids.
This place has outside seating, young friendly staff and bartenders. extensive beer menu, offering flights so you can taste multiple beers. They also have great appetizers and burger selection. The pulled pork was very good that I ordered for myself. Also the sweet potato fries are good if you like them, otherwise the regular fries are also excellent and cut thick. They offer free favored popcorn that they change up quite often the flavors are good. The service here is excellent, someone is constantly checking up on you.
Burgers are enormous and very generous appetizer portions are offered.
If you are not sure which beer to order ask for the flight and then decide.
Specials are posted on the board and so is the popcorn flavor of the day.

Nice local bar located in the small quaint town of Cold Spring, NY. After hiking on Breakneck Mountain, stopping here just to relax and get some carbs is a godsend.
I ordered the Baked Portabella mushroom (fire roasted pepper, baby arugula, plum tomato, fresh mozzarella and chipotle mayo on pressed a flatbread) with truffle fries and a pickle, The panini was nothing special. It had a rather bland flavor, but I enjoyed the truffle fries. Still after that hike, it was a good meal.
They give free salt and pepper popcorn instead of peanuts or bread.
On a side note, the person next to me ordered the ribs which I swear they give an entire rack. The plate was definitely larger than her head.
On another side note, they apparently have the largest urinal known to man. Looking at the picture my friend took, it was taller than him, extending down to the floor, and about 3 times as wide as him.
