Went last Saturday night. We arrived at 5 and had a couple cocktails. They were fine if a bit pricey. The staff was very friendly and engaging. The place filled up quickly after 6pm. We saw many fish fry orders(yes on a Saturday) come out to other tables, and they looked great. We had already ordered by this time, but will try one next time. .I had the beef tenderloin pasta with spinach, red peppers, banana peppers and cheese over bow tie pasta. This was excellent and the portion was big. My date had the grilled romaine and meatloaf, both of which were fantastic. We had no room for dessert. Maybe next time, and there definitely will be a next time! The décor and building are very interesting and well done. Undoubtedly a historic building.

Contacted the restaurant for a private party for 30+ people. Chuck and Matt put together a lovely menu and provided us with the best service! The character of the restaurant is amazing and the staff is outstanding! Thank you! It’s April and snowing in Colden. The Colden Mill brought me a fabulous onion soup, roasted romaine and gorgeous banana fritters… Perfect! If nothing else… The banana fritters will change your mood, period. A DON’T MISS!

Have not been here in such a very long time.l.park and walk in and everything looks the same, warm, cozy, comfortable… but the menu… WOW! Met another couple for a Saturday night dinner, ordered two drinks from the bar… ok but really small glasses… seated and began to look over the very different menu from the former Mill… lots of choices but not the normal run of the mill… our table ordered the Chorizo Stuffed Pepper for a starter… it showed up wrapped in a puff pastry, delicious! We each ended up ordering a different entrée and we all were very pleased with our choices… Beef Shank Poutine, balanced comfort food, tender, juicy, crispy… just a bit on the salty side so don’t salt till you try it… Beef Tenderloin Pasta, I was told he could not wait to eat the next bite a total treat, Swordfish was totally enjoyed along with the classic Filet Mignon perfectly cooked… no room for dessert, maybe next time! Looking forward to our next visit

Five stars with an asterisk. This place is great if you’re looking for that log cabin atmosphere and good food. No better place to go if you’re looking for a fall/winter dinner in the hills in a great old building. They have a wood stove that they use in the winter in the dining area, with old country antiques everywhere. All of the food was excellent, but the service was a bit slow. Not a problem if you’re going there to relax and enjoy the evening. I don’t suppose you’d be in a rush if you headed out here anyway, but they don’t have the on-point efficiency of nice restaurants in the city, just keep that in mind and its fine. The food is excellent, not cheap but not overly expensive. Most entrees are in the 17 – 25 range. Good wine selection.

Nice place, food and service good and prices where fair. Only thing was it was just OK, a good place, not more. Some of the food was better and some less so. If friends asked me I would go again but other wise I didn’t find anything out of the ordinary to bring me back.

First off, the place is gorgeous. It gives you a very warm and homey feeling as soon as you walk in the door. My guest and I were lucky enough to be seated on the second floor which overlooked the first floor dining room. The décor is really nice. The food was very good as well. The mushroom risotto, which was a special, was fantastic. But the chorizo stuffed peppers stole the show. Not too hot, just the right amount of kick. Well worth the trip out to Colden. The servers were very friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back.

Food was really good but service was terrible! We had two waiters(had to ask for a new one) but both were very bad. They were very slow and we had to wait forever to get anything. They hardly ever came to check on us. My husband ordered his prime rib medium rare and it came out rare so he could not finish it. The only reason they have one star is because the food was so good. Our fish and chips appetizer was amazing and my ny strip was so delicious. I would not be able to recommend this place based on their service, however.

The food is out of this world! I have been to the mill over a dozen times, and everytime I am pleasantly surprised with everything I order. The patio is opened for the summer too!

Place was recommended to me by a friend of mine a while back and finally had the opportunity to check it out. Glad I did. Top notch menu from start to finish. Started with a stuffed pepper appetizer. Pepper stuffed with chorizo sausage, cheese wrapped in a flaky pastry. WOW. The French onion soup was actually 2 soups. The traditional French onion style and a creamy verdalia(sp?) onion served in a bowl shaped like the Chinese ying yang symbol. AWESOME. Entrée was the bacon wrapped meatloaf. No need to say any more about that. FANTASTIC! Our server Lynn was very nice and took time with us and the menu, as well as tell us a little history about the building. I will enjoy introducing our friends to this place.

My husband and I went to the Colden Mill with two friends on Friday Night. We were extremely disappointed, and would not go back. We had a reservation for 6 p.m. We were sat down immediately, and then waited 50 minutes for our dinner. This was after, another group of four were sat down AFTER us, and received there dinners before we did. We asked about the specials for the evening, and our waitress told us that there was a «whole» chicken dinner. My husband was going to get this, but questioned her three times as to the«whole» chicken dinner. I even asked her, if they would cut it in half? After he then ordered it, the waitress came back to our table to tell him that it was only a HALF chicken dinner. The prices are extremely high for the quantity of food that you receive. If you are hungry and want a salad or soup, this is all EXTRA. You don’t get anything except for a baguette of bread with butter before your meal. My husband who is a big eater, got the BEEFSHORTRIBS $ 19 — Explained on the menu as BRAISEDBEEF, CHEDDARGRITS, COOKINGJUS. Well, when his plate came to the table and he had ONE rib, and the big bone was on the plate next to it. Yes, ONE rib with grits. We had perused the menu online before going to dinner and he wanted this item that showed on the menu: BUTTERMILKFRIEDCHICKEN $ 20 BREAST, THIGHANDLEG, SLAW, SPICYHERBDIP They no longer serve it! Our friends ordered: FILETMIGNON $ 27 BACONBLUECHEESECRUST, ROASTEDVEGETABLES, PORTWINEDEMI-GLACE and LEEKWRAPPEDSALMON $ 25 ROASTEDMUSHROOMS, VERMOUTHCREAM, SAUTÉEDLEEKS This salmon dinner came out of the kitchen COLD! I ordered another Rib dinner that was a joke! It was a small amount of rib meat, with a small amount spinach, broccoli, and cheese. I forget what this cost us. We eat out at least three times a week, and there are too many other places to go to eat where you get Quantity with price that you pay. We wouldn’t have minded paying the high price, but we left hungry. We drove into Hamburg to get dessert and coffee. If you want a small portion of food, and don’t mind paying a HIGH price for your meal, then this is the place to go.

First of all the décor is really nice. The place has been recently redone, and very nicely. We were there for restaurant week and the only choices for 20.14 were from the«comfort food» section of the menu — meat loaf, etc. Our entrees were OK, but that’s about it. Maybe the food on the more«upscale» part of the menu(steak, salmon, etc) would be better, but I probably won’t go back to try, they just didn’t impress me enough.

Chef Matt out did himself again. Our meal was amazing from appetizers through deserts. The service as usual was spot on. If you are looking for 5 star dining with a casual atmosphere in a beautiful setting look no further than the Colden Mill.

Start to finish, just great. There were four of us, with no expectations. Martinis and manhattens were mixed just right. We shared the stuffed pepper to start. Very good, just enough heat. Red sauce was delish, a little sweet to counter the heat. Fresh baked mini baguettes with dipping oil and a head of roasted garlic, and our server made sure we did not run out. Grilled romaine salad and duo of onion soups are musts! Entrees were excellent from the comfort food section, the only thing uncomfortable were the waistbands when done. The service was attentive and knowledgable and the GM stopped at our table twice to check in. Nice ambiance, you can wear jeans but why? Dress slacks or khakis are a better match. Next time we are saving room for dessert!

Years ago we were regulars at the Colden Mill. But sadly as the restaurant went down hill, so did our attendance. We were thrilled to see the opening and were somewhat hesitant to make an appearance just three weeks after opening. What can I say except, this is a fabulous dining experience, beginning with drinks at the bar,(except for not having Southern Comfort or Kahlua) the bartender was very attentive and make suggestions. We made reservations for 5:30 and were seated promptly upstairs. With the overview of the entire restaurant, we made comment as to there being very few customers. Within an hour, that all changed, the restaurant was completely full with more customers coming in with no sign of ending. Our server, Chris, at first seem just slightly nervous. But as the night progressed and the number of tables Chris had to serve, he became more relaxed and never missed a beat of taking care of our dinning needs. The food was incredible and the service superb. Yes, we will again become regulars at the Colden Mill!

Wow! This place truly made our evening. Wow again! Amazing FOOD, atmosphere, décor, service was A+. Drinks were reasonable. Believe me I’m super hard to impress. 5 minutes past the Boston Hotel, wasn’t far at all.

This place from the outside looks like just another house in Colden… but open the door inside… and the whole inside is immaculate. The Food is prepared and presented as if this was a fine dinning restaurant. Great Service and Stellar Food. I would certainly vote this as the best restaurant in the south towns!
