In a day in age where people stream movies from Wi-Fi services or have them mailed from Netflix, the life of the movie store seems obsolete; In comes Pick-A-Flick. I know when I review places in the town that I live I use the word charming, but seriously! This store IS charming! The owner is super nice and EXTREMELY knowledgeable about movies; he is also extremely innovative. He had a period of time where you could earn movie rental points for answering movie trivia, this guy knows his stuff. Now, I do want to point out that they do not carry 3-D Blu-Ray, but they do have a small selection of Blu-Ray movies as well as a large selection of older movies and new releases. One of the super unique things about this store is that they have a HUGE selection of handmade and homemade gifts! You could literally walk in and pick out a movie for the family and walk out with a gift for your mom… It’s kind of awesome! The owners wife makes her own soaps, they are SUPER unique in scents and have a handcrafted artsy look to each individually made bar, she even makes lotion soaps and has designer fragrance inspired scents. The owner also offers afterschool tutoring.

Although this is the only dedicated video rental store in town my wife and I have decided to stop patronizing this store because of all the negative opinions we have to hear from the owners about every other business in town. Obviously they don’t realize that many others they like to talk about are beloved local businesses that actually contribute to the community instead of putting everyone else down as Don and his wife do. They still have their big city mentality which most locals can see and hear. Prices are outrageous and most items are poor quality junk. Help the community by boycotting this negative influence in our town. Maybe they will sell to someone who really cares or just close and move back to the bay area.

Good selection of videos, as well as lots of unique gifts. As a local, I appreciate having a video rental store close by so I don’t have to drive down the hill to Auburn just to rent a video.
