Omg. What a hot mess. I understand it’s a college bar, but that doesn’t excuse the flat stale beers. It didn’t matter what beer you ordered either. They all seemed they were poured, fridged for several hours, and given to us. Again, I understand its a college bar. I am not talking about ambiance, location, anything else. Beer shouldn’t be flat or stale at any bar.

I go to Looneys way too often. The staff is always accomodating and friendly. You can’t beat their fresh orange crushes!

I’m glad to find a local place that has Raging Bitch for $ 4 a pint. However: 1. Our server was very personable, but the food took forever. Not fun when you have two little kids. 2. See the attached picture of the wings. The vegetables must have been a week old. (Whoops– I guess I can’t attach a picture. The carrots were so dry they had scales.) On the plus side, I was pleased to see that the neanderthal bouncers have been toned down a bit. I assume. It also could have been a result of the snow, I guess dragging one’s knuckles on ice isn’t pleasant.

It was kind of an awkward experience trying to use the Unilocal deal. Our server was extremely helpful however. The crab pretzel was awesome. The drinks were okay. Good bar option for college students in the area.

The word Looney normally has a negative stigma attached to it which makes me wonder why anyone would name their establishment«Looney’s.lol Okay, let’s get past that and on to the more important stuff. This place is located on the bottom level of a newer University of Maryland off campus housing mid-rise so you have to pick your times when coming here or you may be surrounded by a bunch of drunken college kids. I only come during lunch hours so I’m good in that department! This is one of the few bars/pubs that I actually go to for the food and not to watch a game and eat wings. Looney’s has an incredible menu and EVERYTHING I’ve eaten has been spot on. I have recently discovered their Seafood bowl which is nothing short of mind blowing. The bowl has jumbo scallops, jumbo shrimp, crab chunks and lobster in an amazing Old Bay seasoned broth($ 13.99)!!! You literally want to lick the bowl when you’re done. I’m not ashamed to say, I actually did that once when nobody was looking. Lol I normally sit at the bar to take advantage of the many TV’s and to kick it with the super friendly bartenders who never let your drink get past half before you’re getting a refill! Now that’s service! They have a Soundstage so I’m sure it gets pretty wild at night(band+liquor+college kids=crazy night). So do yourself a favor and come before dusk or you may be having an «Animal House» flashback… Man that was an AWESOME movie. Lol

Came here when I was visiting from California and I loved the super college environment. ONLYGOTOTHELOCATIONBYTHEUNIVERSITYOFMARYLAND! We got the crab dip which was beyond amazing and the OLDBAYALFREDO pasta was the best thing I have ever had. Shrimp, scallops, lobster and crab doused in Alfredo sauce and seasoned to perfection. They also have Angry Orchard on tap which I loved. Jessica the bartender let us know all the happy hour goodies and was super attentive throughout our stay there. Great place if you just wanna take a load off and surround yourself with good vibes, food and of course a drink(or two).

A friend and I met here for happy hour this past Friday. We sat at the bar. The food was great and the menu had many great options to choose from. However the service was just awful. They seem to have had plenty of staff on hand. However they were more interested in socializing with each other than serving customers. It took me 20 minutes to get a beer at one point. Also there are way too many tv’s in this place. You can’t get away from them. They were pretty distracting and may of them were playing the same things as another tv nearby. And they all had sports on. Some variety would have been nice. I’ve gone to the Looney’s in Fulton several times and would recommend that location. Better staff, less tv’s and generally more quiet. Same great food there.

Looney’s pub is a typical college bar. The big majority of its guests are students, and the place is always very alive. Once a week there’s a live show, and some more themed evenings such as trivia night(Tuesday), and other that I don’t remember. The place is quite big and there are also tables outside. The food — from my experience, it can sometimes be good and sometimes not so much. There have been few times that I got really poor dish and was disappointed. Of-course they also have typical bar food(fries, nachos, onion rings…) which is good(as much as this kind of food can be) and the portions are big. The prices pretty low, and they have happy hour menu for the happy hour, as well as for football games.

I have not been here in sooooo long… Well since college.(Which is about 3.5 ish years) It’s very similar to what I remember back in those days. Loud college students getting drunk and being very very very loud. It’s a very college inducted environment. It’s definitely not casual drinking I am now used to. When I went during a redskins game, they had a ticket and redskin gear giveaway. They also had two of the redskin ambassador representatives come in and grace us with their presence. They were super pretty so it got the male crowd loud and even more into the game. I personally do not enjoy football so I was mostly enjoying my food and alcoholic drinks. Let me talk about their french fries before I forget to mention this very important detail… Yes it’s that important. I cannot rave enough about their fries. It is a super crispy French fry heaven. If you liked thick cut fries or the western fries these fries may not be suited for you. But I mean I have not met a single person in my life that does not like any type of fries. I could eat fries all day everyday and be a very happy person. But these fries, omg these fries they were so good. Literally the whole time I was eating them, I just kept thinking to myself how did they get these fries so crispy?!

The food is pretty good here but I wouldn’t say that the service was the best. It took us a long time between round of drinks at dinner. This place is a lot of fun at night thought.

Little quite college pub by the University of Maryland. I like the atmosphere, the food was great, they have a really diverse menu. The bbq pork nachos are to die for… and definitely big enough for 3 – 4 people. Needless to say, we didn’t finish the plate. I would have given them higher if the prices of the beer had been a little better, 6.50 for a Newcastle bottle, same as a pint of Guinness…

This is by far my favorite bar to go to for happy hours. I absolutely love their outdoor seating, which is elevated on a deck and not overly crowded. Their food and drink specials here are great, some of my favorites include the wings, fish tacos, fries and crab dip. This place is also great for watching games, as there are TVs and speakers literally everywhere. There is also a stage inside the pub where there are often live bands, which makes its unique from the other bars in the College Park area. They also host trivia nights on Mondays and Tuesdays, which turn out to be more fun than they sound. The service isn’t great, but it’s not terrible either. Parking here is more accessible than other bars(there’s either paid parking behind the Varsity, or you can park at Lot XX across the bridge after 4pm on weekdays or any time on weekends). Pro tip: download the Stealz app on your phone and receive a free order of fries on the spot! You can also keep checking in and easily rack up deals such as a free mixed drink or even a free round of Fireball for your entire table. Overall, I would recommend this place for happy hours and a chill night. If you’re looking for a crazy night out, this probably isn’t the place for you!

We ate here one night because we were looking for something different. This place had a good selection of beer and food that wasn’t too bad. There were a few things that were noteworthy and that is that they charge you for parking in this establishment. Very strange as the location is in the suburbs and with plenty of land around this strip mall and condominium project. Why the need to hound diners with a $ 2 parking fee? Also, not sure how to convey the point without being blunt, but as you walk into this place there was a bouncer sitting across from the hostess. He was as big as a house and half awake at his perch. We thought wow, what’s up with a place that utilizes the services of a bouncer? We had no issues of course, but just thought it strange that a legitimate restaurant would post a massive bouncer next to the hostess at the front door. It just doesn’t look good. Was he for the long gone summer vacationing college students? LOL! The food was okay, beer was okay, but overall not quite what we had in mind.

This is a great place to come and check out the game(as they have a ton of tv’s) and enjoy some gd food and drinks. This place by far had some of the best wings you can find in the area. The Honey Old Bay wings were fried hard with a great crispy skin and tossed in old bay and drizzled with real homey, top notch!!! I will definitely be back very soon.

Good food. Good service. I like it. I’ve been here several times and always liked what I ordered. Crab pretzel is one of my favs. Fries are also awesome. Service is fast and friendly. Very crowded on game days so get there early if you want a table. And they do automatic tipping(18% I think during NFL season) on game day which I don’t like but whatever… For the most part the servers deserve it. Most are good there. I will return.

As a graduate of the University of Maryland this place does yield a soft spot in my heart, if only for the rose-tinted glasses of days gone past. This is not to say that the place is a dump, but more the sort of place that one would expect from a bar directly adjacent to campus, situated underneath student living. My largest complaint by far — is the sheer volume of TVs in the place. One nearly cannot find wall space that isn’t alight with twenty different games on twenty different monitors. One can’t hardly have a conversation with the person directly next to them without being assailed by rapid moving screens in bright colors. Primarily, this is a place where people come to watch games of whatever variety. Notwithstanding my general aversion to screens and how it manages to dehumanize us, Looney’s is a great environment if you want to be caught up in the thrill of a game with a bunch of other equally enthusiastic sporting folk. The happy hour specials are what make the place worth visiting, because even on a tight budget a college kid can make it work. The beer selection is varied, surely to please most palates and catch them at happy hour and you can find yourself filling your glass again.(and again?) The food is what caught me flat footed on my visit. It’s good! Standard American(read: junk food) pub fare, but what you eat is honest. They do try to serve a «healthier» alternative to the nachos and burgers, but we all know why you’re here. Still, the vegetable platter, while wholly uninspired, was served fresh(although with blue cheese dressing), and my beef sliders hot. The sliders could be amped up with more meat as I don’t believe I even saw a tablespoon’s worth of meat on an over-sized potato bun. It’s served with diced tomatoes and loosely shredded lettuce, so it feels more like a burger rather than just potato bun and the meat getting lost therein. The sweet potato fries are what make the place sing, and I would suggest anyone who is a fan of such fries to certainly indulge.(I speak from previous experience, as certainly there are hit-or-miss days, and my ultimate dining experience sadly fell a little flat). Our waitress was an attractive young woman who attended to us fairly with our dining requests and, perhaps because it was slow, came to chat with us a while, certainly adding mix to the table. The place is so big, that when packed it easily can get(very?) loud, although ours was not the case in this instant and normal conversational levels were heard. We left on a full belly, and because the day was nice, opted for a stroll around a beautiful campus to help digest the food.(Something I would recommend to most anyone) Am I the biggest fan of this place? No. Would I be happy to come back? Yes. Of all the bars around the campus area, Looney’s by far is the most upscale and clean of them all. I cannot say what it looks like on game day, but the clientele are the sort of college kids who want to unwind with a cold beer and hot food. Fine dining it is not, but I don’t believe they have ever marketed themselves as such. If this is what Looney’s promises, then I can only satisfactorily say that they deliver.

I went to UMD for undergrad so Looney’s has a soft spot in my heart. I always had a great time here whether it was for happy hour, late night on the weekends, or Trivia Night on Tuesdays. Inside there’s TONS of TVs so you won’t have any trouble seeing whatever game you want. If you do come here on a game day be prepared to wait or come super early. The past two game days I’ve been told there was a two hour wait. I came here a ton of times for happy hour. Food specials for happy hour are $ 5.99. I normally get the buffalo chicken tenders and they’re delicious. It also comes with a side of fries. I don’t know how Looney’s makes their fries, but they are my favorite fries ever. I compare all other fries to Looney’s. I’ve also had the BBQ pork sliders and they were kind of mehh. The meat was dried out and there wasn’t enough sauce. I also recently tried the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese(BCGC) and this was worth every cheesy calorie. Mixed drinks and beers are great here as well. Looney’s late at night has always been a good time for me and my friends. There’s usually shorter lines here than Cornerstone, Bentley’s or Turf. And they’re stricter on IDs so you won’t get the annoying underage kids who can’t handle their drinks. And, as a girl, there’s never a line for the bathroom because they have so many stalls, so that’s a huge plus in my book. Don’t expect too much from service. It usually is a hit or miss. The staff are mostly students from UMD, and either this is their first job as a server or they just don’t take their job seriously. Looney’s is located below the Varsity, a high rise apartment building. They have paid parking but I usually park on campus. If you’re familiar with UMD’s campus, Lot XX1 is the closest to Looney’s. It’s just a quick walk over the bridge to get to Looney’s. It’s normally permitted parking only, but it’s free after 4 pm on weekdays and free on weekends.

Of all the bars in College Park with cover charges, this is the least worst of the three. Looney’s is located inside of The Varsity, the«party apartments» in College Park. They have decent beer selection, although I’m used to much cheaper prices back home. Their specialty is $ 2 Natty Bo’s. Natty Bo is a Baltimore beer that tastes exactly like Bud Light. Not exactly my cup of tea, but getting drunk for $ 10 is always a good thing. The food here is surprisingly good for bar food. They have an upscale menu. I had the jerk chicken strips, and they were amazing. I had no idea something so intricately made could be served at a bar. Also, a word of advice: come before 10 pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and avoid the $ 5 cover.

If you love a good, affordable Happy Hour, Looneys is the place for you! I have been here twice for HH with my friends and every time was a lot of fun. It is a pretty big bar with plenty of seating for customers but they also have optional outside seating for anyone who wants to enjoy those beautiful sunny days. Looneys is a typical sports bar with a million TVs to view your favorite teams with your friends. The food isn’t anything special but what can you expect from a local college bar? I wasn’t expecting much; either way, I came for the DRANKS! Haha. HH is from 2PM to 7PM and they have rail drinks for a mere $ 2. What … the … what!!? That won my heart right away. I’m a baller on a budget. Lol. Also, you can get ANY beer behind the bar for 3 bucks during HH. I must say that these are the perks of living near a campus — cheap eats and drinks! They have a pretty cool concept too — anything on the menu with a clover next to it is $ 6 for HH. I ended up getting the fish tacos but they weren’t that great. Again, not an issue, I didn’t expect much from the food. We ended up getting jalapeño poppers as well and those were AMAZING! It may have been because we were five drinks in, but they were amaze balls: D We also found out that Looneys has trivia night on Mondays and Tuesdays. WHAT A FUNNIGHT! The announcer was entertaining and invited new customers to join in on game night activities. He was extremely funny and repeated any questions when we all were too drunk to pay attention the first time. Overall, I really love Looneys. They have a nice ambiance and great HH specials. The customers that come in are super outgoing and friendly so it is easy to make new friends when you come here. The only«bad» about Looneys was the bartender had the bottle opener tucked in the small of her back,…hmmm let me get whatever is on tap please: D hahaha. I would give them three and a half stars if I could. Favs: HH Specials and Trivia night … Sidenote — I appreciated that the bathrooms were so clean. I didn’t expect that at all. :) Would Change: Customer Service was okay. They greeted us and were nice but nothing special. I had more fun with the other customers. Also, that bartender… ummm yeah.

I came here for happy hour with some friends, and it’s your normal, average bar in a college town. Loud music, young people and bad service is pretty typical. Our server was pretty bad, she wasn’t that attentive, and she was so reluctant to split the check for us that we just ended up splitting the check by credit cards. It would have been so much easier if she had just split the check for us. I’m not really impressed but the place is so close to my home that I’ll be back. The food is good bar food. I got some crabby fries with my 2 Guinnesses. The fries were good and the portion size is huge! You have to love good yummy crab on top of fries with melted cheese. What’s not to love???
