A wide selection of beer, wine and spirits. They probably have the widest selection of beers in the Brazos Valley. You come can find all kinds of styles of beer from lagers to ales. Their selection includes Texas micro breweries and that from other areas of the US. The international selection is pretty good, even carry a sweet Czech dark lager called Praga, I’m into single malts and Spec’s by far, has the largest selection of single malt nectar from all the distilling regions of Scotland. They carry a few hard to get 25 year old malts, though expensive. I’m not a bourbon fan but they appear to have a great selection as well along with tequilas and other spirits. There is a huge selection of domestic and international wines, though most come from the larger wineries. There is not much of a sake selection, one of my other favourite spirits but considering where we are, I’m not surprised. I usually pick them up in New York City or Los Angeles anyhow.

I’m dropping a star here partly because the«baby Spec’s,» as I like to call it, is slipping some, and partly because its competitors are improving. They have a decent wine selection for such a small store. But their selection of chilled wines is minuscule and a poor representation of the quality in the store. Their beer selection is worse, and it hasn’t changed at all since new Texas breweries like Deep Ellum(Dallas) came on the scene. Their selection of hard liquor is very good for a store this size. Here’s the kicker. Supermarket Kroger in the same plaza has a far better beer selection. And the Tower Point HEB just down the feeder road has a vastly superior beer selection. The glow that«there’s a Spec’s down further south!» has worn off. They seem not to be interested in Improving the place, or in engaging their customers. Too bad.

Do like this Specs and have been shopping here more recently. My Unilocal review doesn’t really matter at all cause this place is busy as hell and nothing I can say will change that. But do be warned. The beer cooler doesn’t work well. They do have a nice selection of German beers but you have to cool them down when you get home before you can drink them as the last time I measured they come out of the cooler at 78 °F.(Yes, I carry an infrared thermometer at all times(don’t ask why). LOL! Staff are great and cool. Just wish the beer was cool. And of course like with all SPEC’s location they are running the credit card scam where they charge you their merchant fees by claiming they offer a «cash discount». That’s gonna catch up to them some day…

If you’re looking for something usual, they will have it here at a great price. If you want something rare, you may have to go into town to the Texas Ave. location. The staff here will help you if you like, but they won’t hound you. I consider that a plus. The location makes this my go-to liquor store. They offer a cash discount, too.

While a smaller location than the store on Texas, the convenience of this location for me makes it a huge plus. I don’t get as much help offers there as in the main location, but when I ask for help/advice they are typically good — though it can depend on who is there. But I’ve gotten some great recommendations there and discovered some new favorite wines as a result, so who can complain! As with the main store, occasionally I can find the same wine at another location for«slightly» cheaper — but I don’t always trust how that wine has been stored. Yes, as others have mentioned they do charge more for using your credit card. I’m not a fan of that approach, but I just plan on paying with my debit card.
