The George P and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Institute

The George P. and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics and Astronomy Building is the newest Building at Texas A&M University. In fact the name of it is so long that it wouldn’t even fit in the Unilocal «add business» field. Let’s just call it the Mitchell Building. And yes, if you are wondering if the Cynthia Woods Mitchell is the same Cynthia Woods Mitchell that the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and concert venue in The Woodlands is named after? Yes she is. Her husband got extremely rich and powerful selling fossil fuels so that is why their names are on this building and your rock concert tickets.
This new building was designed by Michael Graves (born July 9, 1934) an American architect. Identified as one of The New York Five. Graves has become a household name with his designs for domestic products sold at Target stores in the United States.
The website has a cool time lapse video of this building being built (it opened last month) yet undoubtedly the epic coolness factor lies in the 102-​foot long Foucault pendulum in the lobby that vividly demonstrates the Earth’s rotation with every swing of the pendulum’s arc. You have to see that.
