Really great fried chicken. A little hot and spicy but cooked fresh and hot. The fried okra is a must.

Awesome chicken. Best I’ve had. Chicken was perfectly seasoned and spiced just right. Great job Gus’s.

Drove across US(from Georgia back to Cali) on an epic road trip in July 2015, and ate at Gus’s for the first time in my life. This is soul good! Awesome, delicious, juicy fried chicken. We got all dark meat, as always, when it comes to fried chicken, There was a line when we first came through the door, but we were seated almost immediately. Everything was made to order, as mentioned in other reviews. We had beans, greens, slaw, and Mac n Cheese for sides. Hubby also got the hush puppies. I can’t comment for the beans and hush puppies because I’m never a fan of them, but everything else was yummy! The fried chicken was definitely freshly cooked and piping hot. Crunchy batter and skin with tender, juicy meat. What a delight to bite into Gus’ world famous fried chicken… hmmhmmm I killed all the leftovers once we reached our hotel in Memphis. Food commaaaaaaa…

If you are a fried chicken fan there is just one place to get it. GUS’S! Period. End of story!

Of all the Memphis area Gus’ this one is the most comfortable and has the most relaxed atmosphere making it my go-to location. There’s hardly ever a wait and the servers have been consistently friendly and move as quick as possible. Gus’, of course, has the very best fried chicken ANYWHERE! I love how the coleslaw pairs perfectly with the fried chicken and their baked beans are my favorite. I’ve found this location’s chicken isn’t quite as spicy as others but it still has that kick that makes it Gus’. The only critique I have is the parking lot is rather small making parking during a busy time kind of difficult. Nonetheless, the food is so good that I can’t stay away.

Awesome fried chicken. The chicken is always juicy, with just the right amount of spice and crispy breading. World famous and delicious. I always get the Dark meat. It is just the best.

Unreal chicken. The best you’ll ever have. Amazing hospitality, I love this place. Old heritage style house is very cozy, but the chicken is out of this world. Go here!

The service *sucks*. I called in an order, a 30 pc for pick up. They said it would be ready in 20 minutes. I got there in 30 minutes, the food wasn’t ready, and I waited for another 30 minutes inside. Cooks and the servers were walking around with no sense of urgency or care. Kids and wife in the car– it was an angry mess to get back in the car to. Gus’s Fried Chicken is absolutely fabulous, but the idiots that operate this location need to be executed by a firing squad.

Always loved Gus’s till today. I usually eat in and food is always hot and amazing but today I did a to go order around 1pm and it was a mistake. Was told should take 20 to 30 minutes(which was not an issue) but was ready in about 10 minutes. I am just a few minutes away in an office and when I started eating my chicken it tasted like it had been refried to heat it and was not as good as usual. Very disappointed.

Waited 2 hours at our table for food. The restaurant lacked a manager and service. Only come here if you aren’t hungry and don’t mind the wait.

I never imagined that I would be writing negative things about a Gus’s location, but, my experience here was pretty bad. We went on a Wednesday night and it was by no means busy. Maybe 4 or 5 other tables were full and there were at least three servers on duty. Our server came over after several minutes and got our drink orders. We also put in an order for fried green tomatoes and pickles to start. Our drinks show up and my frosted glass smelled like stinky feet. Everyone at the table smelled it and agreed, so I asked for another one. She looked at me like I was an alien. About 15 minutes later, our meal shows up. Still no appetizers. No apologies or explanations, so I asked the girl to just cancel the order and make sure we weren’t charged, assuming she forgot to put the order in anyway. She tells me they’re about to come out and again looks at me like I’m crazy. 10 minutes later, my kids and husband are almost finished with their food and still no appetizers. At this point I know no one is going to eat them so I ask for a manager to make sure we aren’t charged. No manager ever came, only the server with the apps at the end of the meal. Thankfully, after many crazy stares, she takes them off the bill. Never offered my kids refills, we had to ask. Long story, but my short point is there’s clearly no management present and the service here stinks(and so do the frosted glasses). The food was ok, but the sides were not as good as other Gus’s locations. We likely won’t be back.

The chicken was tasty but not worth the price. I could not believe that we spent that much money for chicken, hush puppies and fried pickle spears(which are not worth it because you have to bite really hard or the whole hot spear will slap you in the chin as it comes out of the breaking. It came up as kid friendly and that is a big no. I would have given it 2 ½ stars but they done have half stars. Also it should be three $ signs not two because it is quite pricey for chicken. The ice tea was tasty.

The service at this location is BAD. We went in at 2pm today and the waitress was absolutely RUDE. We tried to look past her attitude and enjoy our food, but she’s a bit too much. She said rudely, «You can pay me now» after giving us our check. Throughout our meal, she did NOT once bring us anything what we asked for. Beyond that, the food was mediocre. It seem as though the oil that the chicken was fried in hasn’t been filtered in a long time. The potato salad was on the sweet side. The baked beans was normal. The cole slaw was actually good. It was very light. To end my experience, as we were walking out, she said to her co-worker, «I ain’t scared of her(referring to me)». What kind of establishment hires such a rude, low class person?

Before this week’s visit, I’ve only had take-out from Gus’s. The take-out is good, though chicken tenders dry out quickly. Eating at Gus’s is different– it is like a rough-hewn Southern-fried experience, just loaded with grease(and hyphens, apparently). Everything was made to order, and VERY hot and fresh when it hit our table. My chicken really needed a knife, because I couldn’t wait for it to cool to get into it! The baked beans were tomatoey, the slaw is sweet, creamy, and has a little bit of that horseradishy church-lady flavor. This place would be better if I’d had a beer and some girlfriends with me instead of my two kiddos. I give the food and authentic atmosphere 5 stars, but can’t give 5 because of all the styrofoam. Plastic baskets and paper would work for a lot of things, like the fried pickles.

This is, apparently, a local staple, so we gave it a try. It’s OK. The chicken is really spicy(for me), and very heavily breaded. I could only eat one small piece before my stomach hurt. The hush puppies were good, though. Small menu, but super– SUPER– nice staff, so may give it another try.

This place gets a lot of good noise, but I have tried them twice and simply not impressed. Fried chicken is not that hard to screw up, but lots of extra charges for everything, with meager portions and average food, very limited menu, well just not impressed. Sorry but just nothing to get excited about and no reason for a third strike.

This location must have been an old house. It is very quaint feeling. It is more segmented than the east Memphis and downtown locations. I gave the fried rice a whirl… mistake. just get Mac N Cheese. The bacon and jalapeño hushpuppies were not good either. the chicken is of course delicious. the sweet tea was fresh.

Better than KFC but not worth all the hype. Hubby and I have been meaning to come here since forever and try it. Regretted it but now we know. Ok, so first off, the bathrooms. There was no soap, just hand sanitizer. Also, no papertowels and hubby told me the boys was plugged– those things I can forgive as they happen… but not having soap??? It’s a fried chicken place– we are meant to eat with our hands!!! Give. Me. Soap!!! I ordered their Jalapeño Hushpuppies as an appetizer but didn’t get it until after my food came out and when I got them they were fried to a crisp. Crumbly and unstable when I cut them in half. I ate them anyway because they still tasted good but it was odd. I got the tender dinner and hubby ordered individual breast, leg, and tender. We just weren’t impressed. I will admit it was better than KFC and not greasy… but it was just ok. The experience itself knocked it down to 2 as I saw our waitress twice and generally had to ask a different girl to assist me whenever I needed it. It might’ve just been an off day(I noticed them running around quite a bit) but I just don’t like fried chicken enough to give it another shot.

I can take an item off my bucket list because I dined at the world famous Gus’s Fried Chicken. Wow, talk about southern hospitality. Gus’s location in Collierville is literally a house that was converted to a restaurant. You actually have to drive in a residential area to reach this location. It really feels like someone’s grandma is cooking for you since you eat at a dining room table and are served on Styrofoam plates and cups. You know when you are in the south when all of the vegetables are fried or covered in mayo. The sides were forgettable but it didn’t matter since the chicken was f@#ing amazing. The chicken was made to order so when you bit into it, it was piping hot and flowing with love juice. Looking at the meat, you can see that it was marinated overnight from the color of the flesh. Forget 11 herbs and spices because this was on a new level packed with flavor, crunch, and heat. We didn’t even need hot sauce because it was just the right amount of spice. It might have been laced with something because I’m having withdrawal symptoms. Gus’s chicken is world famous — it’s in the title. The grammatical error in the name is intentional. When you serve chicken that phenomenal, all laws of the universe go out the door.
