This is a really great comic shop. Other than the occasional part time cashier swearing up a storm, the main two who started this operation run a really great program. Fair prices and friendly conversation, oh and you can even grab a bite to eat at their café style set up in the shop. Kids parties and game room parties are available too but I haven’t been there for those myself but it is still classic fun like I remember having when I was a child.

My relationship with Jupiter Comics is love-hate. I’ll admit I’ve never actually set a foot in the door, but my husband has… many, many, many times. He has, at least, a weekly standing appointment with the inky, advertisement-riddled tree pulp«holy scripts» housed in this temple of superheroes, animé, and fantasy. Love: my husband retains a boyish charm and gets a youthful hint of glee every time he arrives home with that brown paper bag. He has a place to go when he needs to get out when we’ve all had enough of each other. Hate: the hours said husband can spend inside this place might often be better spent doing something productive and helpful at home… or at least just«at home.»

I visited Jupiter Comics for the first time today and found the store clean and well organized. this store specializes in comic books with a couple tables of collectables and figurines. If you are into POP collectables they have plenty to choose from. In addition to the various items they sell, they have a small café and a party room that they rent out for birthday parties. Jupiter has people that dress up in super hero costumes for birthday parties, they furnish goodie bags and offer food from the café. Just don’t forget to bring the cake. party prices are reasonable and less headache than hosting a party at home. The selection at this store is not huge but that is to be expected from a store only open three months. Plus if you asked they could probably order thing for you. I strongly believe in supporting local stores like these, they give people with common interests a place to gather together.

I used to love comic books. I still have all my comic books from the 80s and 90s, when I was a bright eyed bushy tailed young teenager. I stopped collecting them in the late 90s, when I had college to deal with, plus I just didn’t have the money or the time to read them. My favorite comic book series was Stray Bullets, but I gave up on it when David Lapham stopped publishing it to take other comic book jobs because he needed to feed his family. I’m now a late 30s GenXer with husband, kid, house, dogs, etc. I hear great things about this new comic book store in town, and my interest in comic books heightens after I bought a bunch of electronic comics via The Humble Bundle. I’m really liking this Harry Dresden comic book, especially since I lost interest in the books –maybe I’ll just read the comic books instead! I’m fairly jazzed up at this point and I have the cash these days to buy just about any comic book I want. I arrive at the store and nobody greets me, but no big deal, right? I see kids in the back playing Magic, people behind the counter selling food, and people standing around talking about comic books. I look around at the new comic books section and I’m getting excited because holy moly, is Astro City really being published still? LOOK, Stray Bullets has a new issue out!!! But why is the Stray Bullets comic at #4 in the series? O_o I ask the person running the shop what’s up with Stray Bullets these days. He didn’t know specifically, and told me that a lot of comic books are rebooting themselves. Stray Bullets rebooting? Really? Well, he doesn’t know for sure that Stray Bullets is rebooting, and then immediately gets distracted by someone who hands him some DVDs. I would have liked to talk with the salesperson some more, but he gets totally engrossed, bragging to some other people about how he bought a $ 200 collection of comic books from someone who came in, and in the collection was the first run of the X-men series from the 1960s. After looking at some more comics, the salesperson is still talking to these other dudes about random stuff. I am sadly disappointed because I sincerely wanted to be hand sold. I just need some help — I haven’t bought comic books in awhile! — but help was not coming. I left without buying anything, a bit melancholy that I could not even find, let alone buy the Harry Dresden comic book. On a side note/rant, people keep talking about«buying local» in Memphis to «break the chain», but it seems like every time I try to buy local, I am hugely disappointed. At least with a chain, I always know what I’m getting. If I buy from Amazon, I always get really good customer service. But these chains are the evil empire, dontcha know? Sigh.

The staff here is awesome! It was my first time here, they all seemed eager to help me find what I was looking for. If your looking for the newer comics they’ve got em. And if they don’t have it they seem more than happy to order what your looking for. They have a snack bar in the back and movies playing. Making this place the place to come buy a comic and just chill, for a min. or two. It’s a must stop place if you haven’t heard of it!

They’ve got comics, collectibles, food, and room in the back to hang out along with additional parking in the back. Magic cards on sale. Basically everything you could want from a comic book store in one location.
