The brunch was ok. I had to dig through the plate stack to find a clean plate. They had typical brunch type foods but nothing was outstanding. Not anywhere CLOSE to a $ 100 meal for two.

Love this place but the service is terrible. I don’t think it’s actually the staff as they are nice but there is no direction or attention to detail. So much upside and potential? Enjoy the views, enjoy the fire pits, good cold beer and good food just take a chill pill if have any service expectations!

Started out with going to the Sunbird to finalize arrangements for a group of 125 a week prior to our event. Made deposit and selections prior to visit. Asked to sample some of our buffet selections, was told some were on the menu. We ordered our dinner, spoke with the event manager several times throughout our dinner. Thought the least they could do was comp the meal for an event costing more than $ 7,000. Nope! Arrived for the event, asked for the buffet to open at 7:30pm. By 7:50 we questioned why our food was delayed. We were told the delay was caused because we asked for an additional table. We had 8 people standing for 30 minutes waiting for a seat. We then asked for a round of drinks or even smores to make up for the inconvenience. Nope! Only good food item was mac & cheese. Chicken & ribs were overcooked, desserts were poor quality. Over priced for venue & quality. Wait Staff was friendly — only reason for 2 stars. Very disappointed.

Decided to go here for brunch with some friends. We read some mixed reviews and were a little apprehensive. There were also virtually no pictures of the brunch buffet. So needless to say, I was a little worried. I made a reservation through OpenTable, when we got there the hostess confirmed and asked if we were military. Luckily my husband and the couple joining us both were, so we got a bit of a discount, $ 35 per person. Brunch included bottomless mimosas, poinsettias(champagne & cranberry juice), or champagne. All other alcoholic drinks were $ 3.50 per. There was a great coffee station, I did ask if they had almond milk, sadly they did not. Our server did say that he’d make that suggestion to mgr though. The foods in buffet were fairly standard, the foods that were supposed to be hot were hot, the ones cold were cold. There was a prime rib carving station, custom Omelet & eggs benedict station, waffle bar(they’d make to your liking). There was also seafood station, and a gigantic dessert station. At brunch I like to fill up on the expensive stuff,(seafood and meat) first that way I feel like I got my money’s worthI also have a wheat allergy so that severely limits a lot of breakfast foods. I do wish they had oysters, but maybe other times they do. Our server was very attentive constantly clearing plates and refilling champagne. I’ve been to other restaurants and when they have bottomless drinks the servers can never be found for refills. I took photos of buffet. If I could change 2 things, offer Almond milk, and offer a few clearly labeled gluten-free dessert options. They had yogurt parfaits but some recipes use wheat in their yogurts and granola so I didn’t want to chance it. That would be nice. If the weather was a little warmer it would have been ideal to sit outside, the view is very pretty.

While I notice some reviews expressing concerns about the service I found Sunbird very pleasant and the service just fine. The manager was on the floor making sure everything was flowing as it should and he did take time to stop by each table at some point to ask how the meal and service was. Thought that was cool… My thought is that the staff seems to be on the younger side and probably less experienced. There were a couple of trainees that night as well. I had the Caesar salad which was prepared perfectly. Followed the salad with the Bison burger which I found very tasty and perfectly cooked. All the sides were fresh and the homemade fries were great. I had an Old Fashioned to drink and while it’s hit or miss at different places with that drink this one honestly was one of the most perfectly prepared I’ve had. So much so I had to stop and tell the bartender how good it was. Obviously one of the best qualities of Sunbird is the view. It’s absolutely spectacular from atop the hillside looking down on the Springs. In my opinion Sunbid is a classy place for a date or even just a burger.

Extremely POOR service! 3 stars for food 0 stars for service I arrived to a double birthday gathering 15 min late, the group had already placed their orders. I sat down and about 10 min went by before one of the ladies at my table offered me an extra menu. 10 min later she asked if I placed my order yet because they ordered quiet awhile ago. I scanned the restaurant for a server for about 5 min, all in all about 20 min had passed since I arrived, the waiter never approached our large party of 12. I went to the front hostess desk and asked if she could find my server. She asked me what I needed assistance with, and I let her know I arrived about 20 minutes ago and needed to place my order since the table had ordered long ago. She offered to take my drink and dinner order, so I gave it to her. Ten minutes later the waiter shows up to my table and asked me what I would like, I told him I gave my order to the hostess, he said«well, give it to me» so I repeated my order to him, water with no ice, the cranberry spinach salad with chicken, and the sautéed mushrooms. Five minutes later a glass of ice water is plopped down at my seat and he turned and walked away. I ordered water with no ice. Needless to say, the service remained just as bad throughout my meal. The water glasses were not very large, so I was done with my cup of water about a third way through my meal. My water cup sat empty for about an hour till the very end when he was passing out our tables checks, I was never asked how my dinner was throughout the meal, nor if I was interested in dessert, which I was, and the reason I ordered just the salad. He hands me my bill folder and walks away, I said«excuse me!» May I please have more water with no ice, and a to go box? Our party ended up outside to enjoy the fire pits. I decided to order the dessert I was looking forward to, mud pie. The bartender was turned away from the customers, I patiently waited to be acknowledged, when I grew tired, I just spoke my request, «may I have a water w/no ice please?» She answered back w/o looking at me, turns around with the water and said«did you order this?» I then asked if I could order mud pie, she agrees and I asked for no cherry, extra whipped cream please, she said«what?» The guest next to me was tired of waiting her turn, so she repeated my request to the bartender«she said, no cherry, extra whipped cream!» My dessert arrives with 3 dime sized squirts of whipped cream. They were too busy using the wine bottles to karaōke to the music and sing across the bar to their coworkers to give a damn about the guests. I won’t be back.

Behind every business there are hard working people trying to do their best, and it’s important to remember reviews can be hurtful to those people. My intention is to only offer suggestions to an institution in Colorado Springs so that it may improve and continue to be enjoyed by the community. 1) The service should be faster. Be it staffing issues, or lack of training, our party had to wait quite a while to have our order taken, for our food to come, for dishes to be cleared(of which not all were ever cleared), and finally for the check to come. 2) The service should be more consistent. Waiters and waitresses operated at different standards of service, with some tables being efficiently taken care of, and some tables being seemingly neglected. Ours unfortunately falls on the latter, especially when we were accidentally charged more than double our bill. 3) The price of the food should match the value of the food. While the restaurant was not busy, it was clear that some of our dishes had been sitting under heat lamps for too long, crusting sauces, and limping vegetables. For a table of 4 with only 3 dishes, this was no good.

What happened? Seriously this used to be the place to go in the Springs for a 5 star experience. This is now a mediocre bar and grill with a decent view.

We have gone a few times for brunch and always asked for Zack. He’s very attentive and friendly. I love the selection of food. They have eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, enchiladas, prime rib, ham, waffles, salad and seafood. There are also items you can order from a menu that are fleshly made for you from the kitchen. The only item I think could be better is the seafood, both the chilled shrimp and crab legs. They seem to taste a little fishy every time we’ve had them, otherwise, I would’ve given a 5-star review. But overall, I would definitely recommend and we will be back.

Summary: 3.5 Stars — my biggest knock is the value we received for our money and that there are other similar type restaurants near here that we enjoy more. Details: We got here at 4:30 on a Saturday night, no reservation — no problem. Only 2 – 3 other tables were occupied. The table next to us complained about their food(burgers), not sure what the issue was. Later several large parties of prom attendees started to fill the restaurant. The service(Zach) was very good. Our server was attentive, engaging, and prompt. Also, if you haven’t been here before — ask for a window view, as the restaurant sits up rather high relative to local surroundings, so there are some interesting views. Be prepared to wind through a residential area to get to this place — which is located on a dead end on the edge of a hill. For appetizers we ordered the Sampler Platter. This was probably our biggest disappointment. For $ 17 we got 5 deep fried cheese sticks(Walmart quality), 15 – 20 small calamari(crispy, tasty, but small pieces), and a cup of spinach artichoke dip with tortilla chips(nothing special and a smallish portion). None of it was noteworthy, and from a value perspective it was way overpriced. Other dishes we tried– Green Chili Cornbread($ 3): Large muffin, very tasty — not too spicy. Perfectly prepared — slightly crusty around the top edges, but moist and hot in the middle. ½ Chopped Salad($ 6): Very fresh. More like a chef salad than a chopped salad, but no complaints here. Bison Chili($ 6): A large cup. Wasn’t served hot enough, just warm. The taste was fine, but nothing special or unique. I like the Bison Chili at CB Potts better, it’s spicier and for the same $ 6 price the cornbread(a winner) is included. Beef Brisket($ 16): Probably the highlight of our visit. Very, very tender and tasty although this is going be very dependent on whether you like the barbecue sauce or not. Also, for the price I would have expected a bigger portion of meat. The mashed potatoes were good, no complaints about the temperature or consistency. Bottom line — we’ll continue to go to Marigold instead when in this part of town(Rockrimmon/Garden of the Gods) looking for dinner at this price point.

This is definitely a great place for a romantic dinner. I had the bison burger and it was full of flavor along with the fries that were cooked to perfection. He had the Chicken Pueblo that was also amazing, the green beans had so much flavor it was amazing. We finished with cheese cake to die for. Our waiter was so terrific. I believe his name was Alex. Definitely a great place!!!

I wouldn’t even give it a star but I have to. Went to Sunday brunch. Food was absolutely awful. All you can eat but I couldn’t even stomach one small plate. The bartender and hostess kept touching her hair and didn’t even have it up. The salad was warm but the salmon was cold. All the deserts were hard, like they were left out all morning. And they were marrying bottles of champagne(they weren’t even the same brand) the ONLY saving grace was our waitress. She was very sweet and on top of everything.

Well clearly i didn’t read the reviews before i made my second attempt to experience this restaurant. We walked in at 747pm, we were greeted immediately, confirmed we did not have a reservation, restaurant was about 1⁄3 full. We requested a table by the window, the hostess accommodated our request then the wait was on! 5 minutes, 2 servers past by, nothing. 10 minutes several more passes by servers, not even a glass of water. 15 minutes, i have now watched everyone be attended to and we had still not received even a courtesy hello. I decided that i guess the big event coming up in my life and the venue search will no longer include this place. I had the idea that i could sample the food, service and experience the ambience but.. no. We decided that after 18 minutes of no acknowledgment was long enough and i was embarrassed that i brought my out of town guest to such a horrible place. Please find another place, plenty of other places near by. Trappers, Zios, Carrabas, even Red Lobster would be better.

Our waitress was fantastic but we waited for our food for an eternity, the chicken added to the mac and cheese was burnt, and the price for 4 of us was $ 100. Will try to remember to NEVER go back.

AMAZING!!! We made a reservation through Open Table for brunch and were extremely pleased! The brunch options were extensive and delicious, and the made-to-order bananas foster was killer… KILLER. Our waiter, Zach, was stellar from the get go. Extremely professional, optimistic, and outgoing; our first visit to The Sunbird would not have been the same without him. His recommendations were perfectly timed and greatly enhanced our initial experience. I am sure other waiters are great, too, but thanks to Zach, this definitely won’t be our last visit. On top of the gorgeous view, the unlimited mimosas and champagne definitely ensured we left feeling very satisfied. If you’re reading this review and are on the fence about whether or not to choose The Sunbird, jump on over it quickly and get to the Sunbird immediately.

I will not come back. Checked the hours and it states 4 – 10 and it was 8:45 when we got there and we were told the kitchen was closed. Dude told us that they are on winter hours. Seriously? It’s not even 9 pm yet and your hours state you are open top 10 pm. Bad business! Won’t even give a second chance and I will tell everyone I know that this is a waste of time. As for a view. I can get views like this anywhere from around the Springs! Bad business! Bad business people! I will post a pic of the hours too. So you can see.

This place gets three stars because of the view. It’s great! I wish I would have known a little more about the place before I went. I would have eaten beforehand and just drank beer. The food is nothing special, and the service is a little slow too. It’s definitely not a terrible and worth a visit at least once. What gets me though is the potential, the owners clearly don’t see the value. Better service, better menu would make that place one of the best restaurants in Colorado Springs. I could see that place packed every night if there was more focus on the customer. It’s too bad really.

Here is the quick and dirty on the Sunbird. Go for a bottle of wine and a smore platter out at the fires outside. This is a GREAT view and the perfect atmosphere. You won’t be disappointed with this choice. It is a great place to take some friends out to. We went on a Sunday evening and it was perfect. Only bummer, was the server came out and said the bar was filling up and they wouldn’t be able to serve us outside anymore. When we came inside to close out our bill, there was more people outside than inside. This was kind of funny and sad, at the same time.

I am more than happy to submit the letter requesting the services of Restaurant Impossible to help revive this once great establishment. My wife and I live within walking distance of this place, and we eat out 5 – 8 times a week. We love the idea of being able to walk to a restaurant in our neighborhood, but we just cannot talk ourselves into eating here. On our last visit we had margaritas that tasted so terrible we could not finish them. What bartender doesn’t know how to make a margarita? We also ordered the nachos and fried pickles. The pickles were not pickle chips but whole pickle quarters that tasted like they were wrapped in a fried pizza dough. the dough was so incredibly heavy that the pickle inside was still cold. the contrast was terrible. The nachos were just chips that they threw in the microwave with some cheese and slapped sour cream on top of. Something you could have easily just done at home. We paid the $ 4 extra for buffalo chili to be put on top. It was dry and tasteless. Redo everything including both food and cocktails menu, front of house and back of house management, and do something to the décor. I am not kidding, you’re the only restaurant in walking distance, and we never ever want to go again!

Just ate dinner here last Saturday night with some friends. Like others Unilocalers before me, I wanted so very much for this place to be awesome, but it just did not live up to its expectations. Our server(also doubling as a hostess, and the only server I saw throughout the night) Courtney was friendly and tried her best. Unfortunately, there is not much that one server can do to overcome food stained paper menus, a very stale selection of entrees(golden corral style) and the totally average flavor of the meal. The menu is definitely on the expensive side .So I am guessing you are mostly paying for the view, which would be totally ok… if the food was good. But sadly it is only average food sold at a steep price. I don’t feel like it is really worth paying just for the view… I can honestly say I have a similar view from my living room. If it was ONLY about the view, I could eat delivery at my dining room table. Our party had: Smoked Trout, Beef Brisket, 24 oz steak(which on the menu is purported as ‘hand cut’ but the server informed us that they only had a 12oz left. Ummm, what happened? They cut all the steaks and only 12oz was left? Fishy. Anyhow, the steak was so meh that my husband was glad it was ONLY the smaller cut) and I had the BBQ sandwich. I asked to switch the fries with mashed potatoes, but when the order came out I had fries on the plate. The server was nice and remedied to the mistake very quickly bringing me a double serving of mashed potatoes. If they were good I would have been in heaven. I LOVE mashed potatoes. But again. Average! :-/ I have to say that the portions were generous, but it’s not very important given that you don’t really want to eat it all(or take it home). I truly wish that someone will take over this fabulous location and turn this very rustic place into a shabby chic restaurant that the Springs can be proud of.
