We have been a patient of Dr. Lasser’s for the last two years when my son was born. I was initially drawn to his practice because he is affiliated with JHH, but he was in a small practice, just himself and an NP, and not a large practice where you might see whatever doctor is available instead of your own doctor. I also liked that he has Saturday morning hours from 8 – 12 because you know your kid will always get sick on a weekend. The front desk staff/nurses are super friendly and try really hard to know everybody’s name. They are fairly competent as well, which is not what I can say for some other medical offices I’ve been in around these parts. They do, however, use an attrocious billing company and reading your bills can be somewhat ridiculous(and part of why I took off a star). As for Dr. Lasser himself, his views on medicine and those of my family aligned pretty well. I am a pharmacist and so somewhat educated when it comes to illnesses and treatments and I do feel like he gives us a say if something needs to be treated. He asks us, instead of telling us, and when it’s absolutely necessary he lets us know that too, but it’s always our choice if we want to initiate that antibiotic, go ahead and get that test, etc. One thing that we did disagree on was that we had a home birth with our son and he was pretty clear that he felt that wasn’t an appropriate choice. I had a completely risk-free, problem-free pregnancy and would have appreciated a little bit more of an open mind about home birth, but everyone has their opinions and you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Once our son was born, and we were under his care it was never an issue and I never felt mistreated in anyway or that he harbored any resentment about it, but we always knew he wasn’t a fan. Now we’re moving out of state but I would definitely recommend Dr. Lasser’s office to anyone who is looking for a smaller practice and is OK seeing an NP to be squeezed in in an emergency. Overall we had a good experience with him, he’s extremely thorough at his check-ups(well-baby and sick call-ins), and has plugged us into some other avenues of specialty care that we needed with our son.
