The best thing about this place was the horse race we were watching on television. The fried pickles were also pretty good. That’s why it gets two stars and not one. But the double cheese bacon burger I got was REALLY well done, a little too done(and I like medium well burgers) – it was like a little less than charred. The honey siracha wings that our friends got sounded good, but were super soggy, as well as the garlic Parmesan wings my husband got. I would only come to this place for the drinks, watching sports, and some really interesting people watching… But don’t go for the food.

I moved back here to go back to school and I recently started a new job close to Schooners. At lunchtime, one of my coworkers suggested I order something from there, as he had just emerged and was raving about it. I called in and got the Buffalo Chicken salad, which was delightfully tasty. It was amply portioned, and they give you more than enough dressing! My coworker had the flatbread club sandwich, which he says they knock out of the park. He also said that he has tried the deep fried macaroni & cheese wedges and however sinful, they were delicious! Upon arriving to pick up my to-go order, I noticed that it was small & cozy, with lots of friendly people inside. The atmosphere makes you feel like you’re at someone’s house(someone who has a really legit bar selection!!), so you’re right at home. There are plenty of flatscreens to watch sports, and a high tech jukebox-ish machine from which to play your favorites. The food was very reasonably priced. I would definitely be interested in stopping in there one evening just to see what the crowd is like later at night. I highly suggest this place!

Schooners Bar & Grill on 6226 Bush River Road offers informal dining only a short walk away from beautiful Lake Murray. While the moniker gives the impression of a nautical-themed establishment, Schooners is a sports bar with decent pub grub. This is a great little place to watch a football game on one of several widescreen TVs, enjoy an inexpensive lunch or dinner, and partake of live entertainment. Considering that the mission of Schooners is to promote a sense of social unity rather than epicurean excellence, the straightforward simplicity of the menu makes great sense. Lots of conversation and friendly bantering drive the point home that this is the sort of place where the football culture thrives. It’s the laidback atmosphere you can rely on for a multisensory sports experience, tasty snacks, and plenty of beer on tap(…) Read the rest of the review here:

This was a nice surprise! I had won a gift certificate to this place almost a year ago, and it was getting ready to expire. So, we ended up here for dinner. It’s a no-frill place, but good. Our dinner was fabulous! The portions were generous, and the prices were right. We fed three adults for around $ 25.00. I ordered the salad, and it was HUGE! Very good, and lots of toppings. My date had the pork tenderloin sandwich and he said it was excellent! My son had the hamburger steak with mushrooms and onions. Everyone was very satisfied with their meals. The waitress was very attentive and never let our glasses get empty. We were invited to stay for trivia, held each Wednesday at 8:00 or 8:30, start time depending on how many people where there at the time. We will definitely return, and next time we’ll stay for trivia so we can win gift certificates! Try it, you’ll like it!
