Went to the Sheraton Rooftop bar tonight. Watched a black couple get treated as if they were invisible, then saw *another* black couple get yelled at by the manager because they didn’t know about the cash only option. April, the manager, cursed at the first couple as they left, and then came downstairs to berated myself and the second couple for daring to leave a complaint.

Thank you to the Sheraton for a comfortable stay. The staff was pleasant and available. The location was great to walk to local restaurants and the art museum. Our room was cozy and clean for a short stay. Try the Rooftop Lounge for one of the best sunset views of the city then post sunset venture down to The Vault in the lobby. The lounge has a swank look and drinks to match. Even if you stay someplace else, both are worth a stop.

Would never recommend this hotel to anybody. Our problems first started when we checked in. We were told a 2:00 check in would be no problem. When we arrived, the hotel told us that no rooms would be available until atleast 3:00. The girl at the front desk then sent us on a wild goose chase to find a farmers market that we later found out had closed at 1:00 when it was very cold with strong winds outside. Finally, 3:00 rolls around and we can check into our room. I had booked 2 rooms. It seemed like the front desk staff would have been intelligent enough to look at the reservation and notice that I’m the SPG member and not the person who was staying in the other room that I booked. They were on the 11th floor with complementary water, tv in the bathroom, and a better view. The worst part of the trip is that we were stuck on the 3rd floor in a room with an A/C that didn’t work. It felt like we were in a sauna for the entire two days we were there. We were constantly having to go downstairs to get fresh air outside the hotel. We literally didn’t sleep the two nights that we were there because it was so hot and uncomfortable in the room. I found myself complaining to the lady at the front desk at the exact same time as another person. Her excuse was terrible and didn’t make any sense and she didn’t even try to resolve the issue in any way for us. We were told we couldn’t change rooms because it was«too late» because the hotel was sold out. Another huge inconvenience was that the keys to our room would randomly stop working and I would have to go back to the front desk to get a new key. I know I wasn’t the only person staying in the hotel who had this issue as well because at one time when we I went down there, another person was having to get a new key to their room as well. Finally, the last morning before we checked out, I was unable to even take a shower because we couldn’t get clean towels sent to our room. After calling twice and walking around looking for a maid, it was time to hit the road and leave. If this wasn’t enough, when I got home I checked my credit card and there are several different charges pending that make no sense and wasn’t given any explanation as to what they were for. The only explanation that I could get was that they are just pending and«it happens» and«it should go away». I will never stay at this hotel for business or a weekend getaway again.

In the last week I stayed at three Starwood Hotels. The first few nights at the Phonecian, a night at the W hotel, and finally two nights at the Sheraton in downtown Columbia, SC. The first two hotels were excellent. The last one is downright gross and terribly managed/maintained. I have multiple photos of the problems. The hotel has old and dingy carpet, with the carpets torn directly in front of the elevators causing a dangerous tripping hazard. The room was dirty from the moment we walked in but the main problems were after the first night. The air conditioner did not work. From one day to the next a room service tray was left I the hall and was never picked up. Our room which only had two towels the first night was left in shambles after housekeeping came. They left the ironing board and iron out in the middle of the room. They left the half empty shampoo and conditioner bottles in the shower. They didn’t put any new toiletries. They left all the soap wrappers on the floor. They did not take out the trash. They left empty water bottles in the room. They did not replace the water bottles which we drank. The floors were filthy from the time we started our stay. This place is an absolute mess. When we brought it to the attention of the night manager at 6pm he never had anything fixed so at 11pm I talked to him again and he told me that the housekeeping staff goes home at 5pm and he didn’t have anyone to fix anything but he would give me a breakfast voucher. This place is the worst Starwood hotel I have ever been to. I will never return.

STARBUCKSIN BASEMENTIf you don’t want to read my review, just know that there are STARBUCKS Here and underground. I am a Hilton Honors Gold member and only a SPG preferred guest. I have stayed in SPG hotels in the past and enjoyed them, but it’s been a while. There is only one SPG hotel in all of Columbia and this place is not traditional. This hotel is an old bank that was remodeled. There is a safe in the lobby and the layout throughout the rooms are very strange. You can tell they remodeled it to make these rooms fit. There is a SPG lobby on the 16th floor and a roof top bar on the 17th floor. This is an old building and the rooms reflect that. I have never been to a hotel with hardwood floors, but this one has them! They are very old floors with scratches that give the room so much character. If you get a suite or a king size room, you get a TV in the bathroom. Take a nice shower in the glass walk in shower and watch TV. It’s fabulous!!!

I will never come here again. It didn’t even rate a one star. The room was okay — the TV didn’t work — Internet was inaccessible. The shades in the room didn’t come down so sleeping in wasn’t an option. Terrible experience for a higher end pay.

My go-to hotel in Columbia. You can’t beat the location and the rooftop bar is great. I’ve stayed here several times– service is consistent, rooms are generally very clean, and SPG recognition always occurs. Compared to other hotels in the area, you get more than what you pay for here. The Vault is a great, intimate spot for meeting friends. I’ve never had an issue finding parking. On my most recent stay, I used the valet parking and there was no cost. Not sure if that was an oversight, or if

Very charming and in a great location for access downtown. The bed was extremely comfortable. The staff went above and beyond to return an item I left behind and for that I am extremely grateful. I will definitely stay there again if we travel to Columbia again.
