Does your baby have a lopsided head? Wondering if they need a helmet? Well you’ve come to the right place. Star Cranial offers free head scans for infants and they are very informative. The head scan is absolutely free! If you need a helmet, your insurance will have to cover it. They have very good customer service and was attentive although I had to wait a while in the office as they services paying customers. But it was a free head scan and I did get some cool measurements. :)

Don’t make fun of the baby with the helmet! It’s just there to help shape his soft little heads into a nice form. Our son wore one of Star’s «cranial remodeling orthoses» for a couple of months, to correct one side of his head being flat. It worked out really well, and we were very happy with the results. The technique is actually pretty cool… the«shaping» helmet doesn’t squeeze the head, it actually contains voids that the head fills as it grows. As such, there’s only a particular window of growth where this is effective. They also have a really neat head scanner — with LASERS! — to map out the shape of your kid’s noggin. They overlay the routine scans on a computer so you can see the progress your kid is making. The staff here is wonderful. Professional, punctual, take as much time as necessary to help you understand everything… the whole nine yards. The facility is new and clean, and they have changing tables in all the consultation rooms. Please note that you can’t really initiate getting a helmet for your kid on your own. It’s something you need to discuss with your pediatrician, who will probably give you a referral.
