Great beer and great people. You can be in the middle of the action where the beer is actually made all while enjoying a delicious beer. Now this is a real brewery one that tries different style beers all the time. This is a place where you go to find something new and unique. Highly recommended for those who want the taste of a genuine microbrewery.

I drove down tor the annual arts festival, Indi Grits — and found Cola town to be very manageable and pleasant. But coming from Raleigh, land of 20 breweries, I didn’t understand the under popularity of them here. At 3:30 pm on a sunny Saturday afternoon — a Raleigh pub would be packed — there were 2 people on the deck when we arrived! Maybe it has a bigger night crowd? Anyway, ESB’s seemed to be the beer of the weekend and I stuck to that. I had a taste of the Dunkelweisen too, which was malty and good. The patio was pleasant and you can see the top of the Stadium from there.

Swamp Cabbage: stop #3 on my Columbia Brew Tour. Okay — let’s get the negatives out of the way so we can focus on the positives, their beer. The tap room is super small with two small rooms. It feels like you’re in your best friend’s basement whose dad has a bar. That being said this place had two of my favorite beers I tasted all day. When you taste a lot of beers, you slog through a bunch of average to less than average stuff before your lips and taste buds get that one that just rings your bell. The Mid Summer Nights IPA did it for me. Really a great beer — nicely balanced between bitter and tropical fruitiness of the Citra Hops(my fave) — it reminded me of the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Tropical IPA that’s currently in my fridge. Their take on Dunkelweizen was also very good and definitely worth a try if you like that style! A flight of 4 is $ 7. Cans of soda $ 1 and chips/pretzels only fifty cents. The outdoor space made up for what was lacking inside.

Came to town for the Columbia Marathon and wanted to «carb up». The beers were fantastic — even though I’m not usually a fan of porters, I had two(small) glasses of this brewery’s porter. A must-try, as is the chocolate pretzel stout. The indoor murals also provide great photographic opportunities, too.

Nice small tasting room. Several beers to choose from. Great addition to the Columbia Brew scene. On my last visit my favorite was the mid summer-night’s IPA. For those who are weary of craft beers go for the blonde.

Stopped by here while in town for the weekend. We ended up getting there an hour before they opened, but the brewers were there and invited us in. They had an extensive list, and we enjoyed a few flights to try all their beers. Everyone there was nice & we had a great time!

Stopped here after the USC/UCF football game. I loved to support local breweries and this is a must stop when in Columbia. Good brew… good atmosphere… Cheers!

Stopped here as part of the Columbia Brew Bus tour. The ESB is delicious(not a true English Special Bitters but more of an American amber with lots if hops) and is absolutely delicious. The dunkelweisen was a nice surprise and something that you don’t see too often on the craft scene, especially not in columbia. I highly recommend stopping by for a growler.

I went there last night after wanting to try it since they opened! I had a flight and a tour. The owners/brewers are a really nice family and the place was packed. I liked all their beer, even the ESB, which surprised me since it was bitter and hoppy, things I generally steer clear from in beers. My favorite, though, is the chocolate brown. I love brown beers and this is smooth and dark and delicious. Like my beers like I like my men. In that vein, they have a solid stout, too! Ha. I’ll definitely be back. They had picnic tables inside, sports on, some adirondack chairs. It’s a comfortable tasting area and I met some folks who shared our table. Lots of fun. Their glasses are cheap, too, and they have a really cool logo that is sure to be recognizable soon. They are in restaurants around town and I’m eager to have the porter with a heavy meal at some point this winter. They are near the stadium with good parking and for you football lovers, they have a $ 20 parking special with a growler for good tailgating.

So you might be asking yourself why is Columbia’s third brewery called Swamp Cabbage. Well a baby palm tree looks just like a cabbage, and I hear that’s where the name comes from. Last night we stopped in after they have only been open for several days. We were delighted at how down to earth the Boyd brothers and the rest of the family were to us and everyone who walked in the door. I started off with their Chocolate brown ale which was very tasty and my favorite beer I had. After sampling several other beers we toured the brewery and got to ask what does what as far as the bells and whistles go. This brewery makes a fine addition to Columbia’s every growing craft beer scene. I can only hope we have just as many brewery’s and brew pubs as Asheville does in the future. It brings our state a whole lot of revenue and brewery’s for the most have a family atmosphere and have other awesome things like food trucks and live music to offer. So in closing more brewery’s= more fun in South Carolina !
