Tapp’s Art Center

Must confess I think this may be the first time I have ever been to the Tapp’s art center. Had a really great time checking out the local artist art work and studios. But I think this place has much more potential to bring in even more artists into the studios. Cannot really put my finger on it but I feel it needs more events and films to bring even more people to the arts. Having lived here most of my life it’s terrible that I haven’t visited this place. I will certainly be coming here more on First Thursday on Main Street to support are talented local artist’s that bring life and energy into the boring and mundane sometimes that has plagued are city.

I’ve only been back in Columbia for a short while, and I’ve been trying to jump right into as much cultural stuff as possible. Last week, this search lead me to Tapp’s Art Center two nights in a row! …and (my impression of) Columbia is better for it.
Tapp’s is an incredibly large venue (though the run of the mill «storefront» might deceive you), and I can imagine it would be appropriate for all kinds of events. They participate in the First Thursdays event on Main Street, and the artists open up their studios for a little mix-​and-​mingling with city-​goers. I also attended their second annual Prohibition Party, which, I can honestly say, was my favorite thing that I’ve done in this city in awhile. Tapp’s was converted into a 1920’s speakeasy, with gambling tables and racy live music.
Though I’ve only been twice, Tapp’s is now on my list of Columbia hot spots. Keep on keepin’ on!

Great looking place! Cool layout! Cool Interior Design! This would be a great place to hold an event!
Gallery circles the first floor with sectioned spaces in the middle. Above I can not think of how to describe the areas used for more Gallery space and Events.
They also have Film Screenings, Artist Studios and Workshops! Huge display windows house exhibits on Main and Blanding — These are great and you can see my photo of the dinning room exhibit where EVERYTHING is covered in Plastic… My guess is because some people sometimes cover seating with plastic to protect or preserve the newness and in my guess this is picking on that Idea by covering everything in plastic!
