The saga continues… Many years ago, I stopped into a Great Clips, and got an awesome haircut. Friends, family and co-workers were impressed, and gave me compliments, which unique, as I’d been getting haircuts all my life, but not many unsolicited positive comments. Now, I’m a talker, so during the styling we got to talking about my love of photography, and the stylist was having a wedding, so I gave him my information. A few months later, I went back to the same place, and he was no longer there. Super sad. Months later, I get a random message out of the blue, and it’s same stylist is working at a new place and looking for clients. This is always a great thing to hear when you like your stylist! After a year or so of that, the location changed owners, wasn’t going to be focusing on the same business, so it was time for my stylist to make a change… He moved to Angélique Salon & Day Spa Suites right down the street, and then that changed owners and became the business it is now: Allure Salon Suites. Although my review is primarily about the one stylist I go to(Dujuan Dublin), there are other folks there providing a wide variety of services. I just go for the haircut, but it’s a comfortable atmosphere with a lot of happy customers interacting with the employees. I do think it’s important to find the right service provider for you — everyone has their own personality — so it’s nice that they offer a wide selection of staff and services. The concept of Allure Salon Suites is identical to Angélique. In the Urban Salon Suites mentioned earlier, there was a central salon area, with three or four workstations. I was never sure if they were shared or not, but my guy always had the middle. Although I’m not against talking with other customers and staff, sometimes, you just want to get your hair cut, and talk with your stylist. Allure offers a common waiting area with comfy furniture, a water cooler, and things to read. Each staff member then has a space that they rent, that they can make their own, with a door they can close, and the standard furniture they need. Dujuan has since switched areas into a new, larger room, with a barber’s chair, big hair drying chair in the corner, sink for washing, supply closet, and the standard mirror with cabinets. It’s a nice set-up, and the walls go up to a point and then open up, so it feels more spacious. And, again, just like with Angélique, Allure has the same electronic access and alarm system, so the staff can come and go 24×7, which is awesome. They can make their own hours, which means happier customers and staff. Flexibility rocks! I mentioned this in the Angélique review, but it might be nice to have printed catalogs or brochures that talk about package deals and pricing. A customer might come in wanting a haircut, and realize that they have a massage therapist available before or after their main appointment. The business wouldn’t really have to push the services, just have a board up, showing who’s available, what services they offer, and possibly the prices. Of course, it wouldn’t hurt if there were cross-branding between departments, so your massage therapist could recommend a haircut, or your stylist could recommend a massage. I know folks have weddings, and like to have hair, make-up and nails done. Possibly, package deals could be offered. I know, logistically that could be odd if prices differ between staff members, but then again, package deals might be viewed as more of a marketing situation, where you’re bringing in new customers who might not be aware of your services. I know other things are going on in other rooms, I just haven’t used any of their services yet. A brochure, package deal, or flyer might be just enough to gently nudge a customer into other services. Overall, I’m very happy that my stylist is still in the business and has a very reasonable situation worked out at Allure. I’m excited to see what type of new services and offerings the new owners will come up with, but really, I’m happy with things the way they are. If this location is convenient for you, I’d recommend it highly.

Allure(formerly Angelique Salon & Day Spa Suites) is a group of individual salons with many different people working there. I was there to see Dujuan Dublin on a recommendation from another Unilocaler and was pleased by my experience. He cut my hair as well as my son’s and did everything thoughtfully after taking time to find out our needs and preferences. I will definitely be back!
