Good service, inconsistent food quality, rude manager

As the kids are wont to say these days: «OMG!» Having never been there, and just finding out about it on Unilocal, the wife and I headed down to Hanger 5 late this morning to have an early lunch. Nice drive into the country to the Columbus Air Park, easy to find the air park using , great dining room with big windows all along the runway and taxi area, great view, peaceful and pleasant atmosphere. Had to search a little to find the restaurant once in the airpark, not a lot of big signage down there, but paying attention to the directional signs will get you there eventually. Nice air park, by the way. Very clean and neat. Seated promptly, drink order taken promptly, meal order taken promptly, not a long wait for lunch to arrive. We were shocked that they didn’t need to use a Hi-Lo to haul our two lunch plates out to our table. My wife saw the waitress heading our way with two plates on a tray and said«Oh, My Lord.» Sorta like an old folks’ OMG. She had ordered the Meat Loaf Manhattan which comes with real mashed potatoes ANDTWOSIDES! She chose cole slaw and a cup of potato soup, which did come out before the meal and was simply outstanding. No surprise on the great soup, since the owners of Hanger 5 also own Soup By Design in Columbus. It says so right there on their menu! Anyway, there had to be 2 pounds of meatloaf on her Manhattan. Really thick cut, big loaf on two extra thick slices of bread with real dark beef gravy and as mentioned, real mashed potatoes. She ate until the cows came home and still brought half of her meal home for later because she got so full from half her plate. Huge portion, hot, attractive on the plate, outstanding in the mouth! I had Alaskan Whitefish after flipping a coin between that and salmon patties with cajun remoulade. Don’t often see whitefish on menus, or salmon patties for that matter. Most fish dishes have tilapia or cod or something, so when I see Alaskan Whitefish, it merits immediate consideration. Had fries and coleslaw as my sides and there were 2 big filets, lightly and crispy breaded, and excellent to eat. I cleaned my plate. Best of all, my whitefish was only 6.99, so with two soft drinks(free refills,) and two monstrous-big lunch servings of hot, great tasting food, our bill was less than 20 bucks! We did add a generous tip, but still, 20 bucks for what we had is a value not to be missed! We will definitely be going back, and often. Our next planned visit is going to be earlier in the morning because we have got to try breakfast after seeing their breakfast menu. Although breakfast is served all day(hours are 6:30AM until 2PM,) breakfast is best eaten early for us. Can’t wait! You shouldn’t, either. This is great food, and lots of it, at a great price! Bön Appetit!

I have been coming here for Breakfast for quite sometime at different times of the day and the food is always really good! I think now that more people know about it there seems to be longer wait times, primarily on weekends! If you want great food and don’t mind a short wait then I highly recommend it!

Nice restaurant, good view of airplanes taking off and landing. Quite busy during lunch time. Food is good and large as you can see from pictures. Enjoy the food here.

We love this place! It’s a total hidden gem! Great lunch and great breakfast… which is great since the hubs loves breakfast for lunch and I love well lunch for lunch! I crave their buffalo chicken wrap and the hubs craves their blueberry pancakes! Service is always so polite! Definitely worth the sometimes long wait for lunch on Sunday’s after church!

Hangar 5 is a hidden gem, and I do mean hidden! I didn’t see any signs for this place. I guess you just have to know where it is. Luckily, my husband did. It’s in the airport, by the way. I ordered a pancake with blueberries and bacon inside. It also came with blueberry syrup. It arrived promptly and hot. It had tasted very good and had ample blueberries as well as plenty of bacon inside of it. Mmmmmm. Our service was excellent. I would recommend.

Mr. Wayne(the owner) runs a great restaurant. My family and I love the food here and love the location. You can watch planes land and take off from your table! Servers are friendly and attentive and prices are affordable with great proportions. This is my go-to breakfast spot, but they do also have lunch as well too. If you haven’t tried this place, you need to!

Such a fun place due to the unique location, my 8 yr old loves to watch the planes land, remember to ask for Dee as your server, we have lucky enough to get him the last few times we have been in, great server. Food is good, but the service is what keeps us coming back.

The Hangar is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Columbus. The coffee isn’t watered down and is consistantly good! I have had the veggie omelet, The Comanche layered breakfast thing, and the french toast, all very good and all things that I have ordered repeatedly. The toast is thick cut and very good! I always get the rye, however the white and wheat all come out the same thick cut goodness. Only thing that they could do to step up their toast game is to have some homemade preserves or something better than the prepackaged Smuckers stuff. I’ve never had an issue with the service, even when it is busy on a Sunday. Only once did I have to wait a few minutes for a coffee refill, but the food always comes out in a timely fashion and everyone at the restaurant takes time to help all the tables if they see you need something or simply to ask if everything is ok. I love the view of the planes and that makes the wait time(if you don’t get there before the weekend rush) go by very fast. I adore The Hangar!

First time coming to the restaurant and we loved it! We ordered the skyhawk and western omelet both with biscuits that were fresh and homemade. We did have to wait a bit to get seated, but it was definitely worth the wait. We will for sure be coming back here for breakfast/brunch!

Interesting little restaurant onsite at the Columbus, in airport. While we were there people were flying in on small planes and helicopters just to eat at this restaurant. I had the chicken strips which were really good. It seemed like the wait was a little long but seems to be a favorite place to eat for the locals.

A very unique place to have an all American breakfast. One can enjoy the view of private planes landing and taking off from the restaurant as it’s windows allow you direct view of the runway. Apart from the view the food is very good as well. The staff here dresses up as the actual flight attendants do. I had flight#6 for brunch and was full throughout the entirety of that day

We literally just left the restaurant after having lunch, and the service was so incredibly disappointing we feel compelled to already leave this review. The one star is only earned because the food was awesome. We had a half order of biscuits and gravy(best in town), and split a tenderloin(which also comes with fries)…and I had a tea. I had wanted to take dessert to go, but after our experience, it just wasn’t worth the attempt. Okay so here it goes: We walk in and after the host(younger male that seemed more interested in his cell phone and how his purple polo made his arms stand out) finished ringing a customer out, we requested a booth for two. It was not particularly busy yet, and he takes us to a corner booth that can sit at least a party of five. As I sit down, I hear him mutter«if a group of five come in, I may need this, and I will move you to a table»…uh.no. There was another large empty corner booth on the opposite side, plus a ton of open long tables that larger groups could sit at. You sat us here, so this is where we’re sitting. Anyway.we wait around 15 – 20 minutes to be acknowledged by anyone else. and this was after another table had been acknowledged, and they were sat well after us. Our waitress, name unknown because there was no name tag or introduction, took our order, and when I asked about the day’s desserts(bc they aren’t listed or posted), she had no clue and half heartedly glanced towards the cabinet and trailed off with a «uhhmmmmmmmmmmm…». I appeased her by saying«whatever’s in there eh?»…to which she said yes and walked away. Sigh. The food surprisingly came out fast, and looked awesome. The tenderloin took up the entire plate, which also had fries piled up as well, which is definitely not a gripe! Our waitress asked if we needed anything, which I requested mayo and another plate, because again we had already told her we were splitting the tloin… normally an additional plate always comes out with this knowledge, but no biggie since we were able to request one. She brought the mayo, but we never got the plate. Oh wait… we did see the male host carrying an empty plate out to the dining room. but he walked out about five ft, turned around, and took the plate back into the kitchen, and went on with other stuff. Grrr. Okay okay… our waitress will be back soon, or see that we didn’t get it, and will bring one. NOPE. She never returned to our table to inquire about ANYTHING. not even a check. So needless to say, if she is wondering why there was a mess of tloin crumbles on the table, it’s from my fiancé trying to eat his part of the sandwich. and why there was only one dollar for a tip(bc normally we tip 20% or higher bc we like to show respect for our servers), it’s because the experience was completely unacceptable. But the food… oh the food was definitely good.

My brother told me about this place and so my family and I tried it out today along with my brother and his family, I have to say that it was worth the drive. I got pancakes and bacon and it was all very good! My kids got Mickey Mouse pancakes and they loved them! The staff was very nice and fast, and although there were no planes that landed while we were there, it’s still neat that they have big windows to watch when planes do come by! So even though it’s like in the middle of nowhere and it doesn’t look like a restaurant on the outside don’t let that fool you, this is a great place for breakfast!

This place has excellent breakfast! The staff are very friendly and they have great service. The food is very delicious! I ordered the full order of French toast with a side of bacon and my wife ordered the #5(2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon). We enjoyed everything, not only the food but the whole atmosphere! Our daughter liked watching the planes and a helicopter land near the restaurant through their large row of picture windows. We will definitely go back for breakfast again sometime, or even try out their lunch. It’s no wonder this place was busy.

Great food choices and reasonably priced meals. Plus you can watch the private planes take off and land. Only open for breakfast and lunch but they are open 7 days a week. You may have to wait for a table on weekend mornings. They also have senior size portions/prices which is nice. Home cooked meals are the usual fare here We like the biscuits and gravy for breakfast and have always enjoyed the lunch dishes we have ordered. Meatloaf is excellent On sundays they have fried chicken Great hidden gem in columbus indiana

One of those places locals know about. This one specializes in simple diner food, whether it’s breakfast or not, in a small airport setting. If you’re looking for anything even remotely healthful or more sophisticated than Midwestern diner(with the shortcuts that usually entails — though it’s easy enough to order around the items that come from a can), this is not the place for you. Again: let me emphasize: you’re paying ~7 bucks for a breakfast that will keep you full to the gills all day, expecting a «chef» is an effing joke, right? The staff seems to stay pretty busy, especially during Sunday post-church rush(maybe it’s the pressure cooker fried chicken Sunday-only special… nomnomnom nomnom); service rates proportionally with how busy things get, but is certainly always friendly & adequate. Orders are served hot, even when they’re totally bum-rushed, quick, quick, quick; tables seem to turn about every 20 or 30 minutes, which means not much of a wait, even when busy. Portions are generous to enormous(especially considering the price), the menu is especially varied(again, given the«diner food» caveat). Ingredients are fair — again, especially given price. Love their biscuits, especially for this far north. Place makes a fair egg, even sunny side up. Not sure about their Hangar Potatoes, but the Hash Brown Casserole is tasty. I do have to say, I wish that they took the time to get a good sear /flat-top crust on sausage /bacon /smokies /hash or a crust from letting the Hash Brown Casserole sit on the flat top for a few minutes.
