I stopped in to check out their selection of Alden shoes, which can be pretty difficult to find around here. The shop was busy, but the owner and an assistant both spent plenty of time with me on finding my size is all of Alden’s different lasts, and looking up a particular model that they didn’t have in stock. Although I ended up not buying anything(the particular shoe I was looking for was a special order item that they couldn’t get), I’d highly recommend the store, and will be back next time I need a new pair of comfortable dress shoes.

If you’re going for the most fashionable shoes in town — you may want to go to the mall. However, if comfort and good fit are important… check this place out! I finally came to the realization that I could not continue to wear reef flip flops all year long due to the fact that mainstream shoe stores do not carry narrow sizes. They wanted to put me in a shoe ½ — 1 size too small so the width would work or put all kinds of pads and filler so the length would work! Enter Brown Shoes! Yay! I was so excited to finally feel what a good fitting shoe should feel like, I bought 5 pairs!

This is the sort of nostalgic little store to which my grandparent’s took me shoe shopping decades ago. You know– where they bring out the silver measuring device and size up your foot? Well, they still do that… Brown’s might not carry the latest in trendy fashions, but if you are in the market for a good pair of Naturalizers or a preppy pair of Sebago’s, they have them. You’ll also find a good selection of casual, comfortable shoes here at reasonable prices. I might need another 20 years before I actually start shopping here, but it definitely appeals to certain people. Brown’s is a nice little hole-in-the-wall store that has been around for 30+ years, so they are definitely doing something right. I like these kind of places and wish them longevity.

This cramped little shoe store in UA’s Tremont Center offers little in the way of men’s shoes. So, the experience was pretty unfulfilling for me. What footwear for men Brown does carry is… to put it delicately… for old people. Oh, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit. I guess there were some reasonably fashionable dress shoes to be found. Nothing casual caught my fancy, though â” except maybe those snazzy white Velcro ones. The store also seems to deal in just a handful of brands. I saw a number of New Balances there, though pretty odd-looking ones that I hadn’t seen in any other store. The upside: The prices are quite reasonable, and it’s cool that this little independent shoe store has endured through the years.
